Central Florida Beauty Bloggers Each Create Their Own Lipstick Shades

Designing my own lipstick color is a dream!!! But it isn’t a dream any longer!!!
I’m starting at the end so I can show you what I got. I picked a pink with just a bit of sparkle for my lipstick. And there was left over gloss that I felt complimented my lipstick, so I had that tweaked a little bit to be my own, and now I have both on the vanity.

This is my lipstick called ‘Pink Bish’…

And my gloss is named ‘QR Me’…

I even got to add a sunscreen and a dulce de leche flavor to my gloss.

This is how I got my own lipstick and gloss made; I went to a Pucker Suite party. Sounds titillating, doesn’t it? The party was hosted Artisan Beauty

And they invited the Central Florida Beauty Bloggers to check it out…

I would LOVE to have this chemistry set on the vanity!!!

What you see are our hostesses creating lipstick to exactly each person’s own specifications. Any color you can imagine, they can make. We also had a variety of flavors, add sunscreen, moisturizers, and even plumpers to add to our lipstick and glosses, if we chose.

And no one held back in modeling their own lipstick style.

Judi was right on the money with her shade…

Toni, being a professional makeup artist, didn’t miss a beat with her true color…

Eugenia complimented her look perfectly…

I think Alyssa is the next spokes model for a toothpaste commercial; look at her smile!!

Steph couldn’t have made a better shade match for her complexion, flawless…

I told her Phyrra that I knew her lipstick shade was going to be bold and she didn’t disappoint…

Alli flashes her gloss and her super smile…

And Brittany created a pink lipstick with power to sizzle…

Artisan Beauty is the closest thing to a Fairy Godmother of the Vanity. If you have ever dreamed of creating your own lipstick or gloss color or, if your ultra favorite shade has been discontinued, with a swipe of their spatulas, Artisan Beauty will turn your frown into a super model smile. Just like all the super star beauty blogger models you see here.

My lipstick was provided for my honest opinion and review. I purchased my lip gloss.

What’s A Nice Lady With Red Lipstick Doing At Home On A Saturday Night?

If you’re talking about me, I have had on red, purple, pink and peach lipstick tonight. I have swatched glitters and shimmers and glosses for a couple of hours.

I de-hauled almost all of my lipsticks and glosses…

I took all of these out of the vanity. And I took all of these out of the drawer in the closet…

And I put them all in a heap on my bed…

Looks like a bin at a flea market. I knew I had a lot but…

So, I got to work and started separating. Getting rid of all these cute mark. glosses…

And I separated out all the lip stains too. The small pile in the upper right corner are the ones I am keeping…

I sorted out all the Avon lip glazes…

And here’s a huge pile of those that I’m getting rid of…

Next pile was all the squeeze tube glosses…

I love these glittery, iridescent glosses. I found one duplicate and I’m keeping that one too!

Last, I sorted out the lipsticks. The top pile is red shades and the pinks are to the right…

The middle pile is purples and browns…

Here are some purples and, I kept just the darker shade…

This is the lighter shade swatched on top.

Duplicates???? No way!!!

And it all boiled down to this much; these are the glosses back into the drawer in the closet…

And here are the polishes and special effects glosses…

All sorted and neatly put back into the vanity.

Wonderfully cathartic.

How’s your Saturday night going?

Sinful Colors: Olympia and The Naked Athletes

Sinful Colors recently released a spring collection called Cast Away. This is the pastel green from that collection..

This is called ‘Olympia’. Mount Olympus is the home to the Greek gods and goddesses. If you have read the myths, you might realize that Mount Olympus is sort of like a legendary ‘Big Brother’ reality show. DRAMA!!!

In the present day, Olympia is the founding location for the Olympics. The first games were preformed in the nude. In today’s world, no one could afford the TV commercial airtime for something that popular.

Sooooo….let’s just see how yummy this cucumber shake is…

Cremes looking pretty on me is elusive. Not the shade, but the application. I didn’t have that issue with ‘Olympia’.

I have 3 coats on and I topped it off with Sally Hansen’s Teflon Tuff extra strength nail protector (something I got from my Mom).

For not being keen on pastels, I really like this light green a lot. Doesn’t this shade make you think of Easter eggs?

Here’s Kayla. She took no time in adjusting to her new home. She’s as content as can be…

I think the big, black spot on her tummy is a target for rubs.

Milani’s Yellow Whiz Fast Dry Polish

A swatch I did this past weekend…

Milani cracks me up with this name: ‘Yellow Whiz.’ I don’t think I have a brighter yellow polish than this…

I used 3 coats but 2 would have been OK had I applied it a little bit thicker. Being a creme, I wanted to keep the streaks at bay.

And what a fashion statement yellow is; B.R.I.G.H.T…

OK, I cheated with an over-exposed photo but it did look like that bright in the direct sun. ‘Yellow Whiz’ did dry fast too. There wasn’t any streaking problems either. The nick in my thumbnail was my nail getting ready to chip; not the polish.

During the work day, I had two people comment on the bold yellow. Heck, I couldn’t disagree!

Have you tried Milani’s ‘Yellow Whiz’? What do you think about wearing yellow polish?

I Spy….New Maybelline, Revlon & Essie Collections at Bed, Bath & Beyond

I spied some ‘new to me’ stuff at Bed, Bath & Beyond today. And, a cute, little bird told me that there is a huge nail polish reset being done there, tomorrow. There will be some new Sally Hansen, some Nicole by OPI and Sinful Colors. I’m going back on Friday!!!

Here’s what I found today…

Maybelline has some ‘Exotic Escape’ beauties. And there is a $1 off coupon pad too.

I couldn’t help but get bug-eyed over these eye shadow shades…

And this is the new Essie collection…

Revlon wants you to smell your fingers too…

And, Revlon has some colors that go POP collection, as well…

Look at those bold blushes!!! A big, super-fluffy brush is what you’ll need to wear these bright powders.

I’m very sorry for the photos not being in focus. I used my point and shoot and it auto-focuses. Well, it is SUPPOSED to!

Have you seen these and did you get any? I didn’t this time but I did grab a few of the coupons for a later purchase. 🙂

Milani’s Twinkle: Jammin’ Good Blue & Purple Glitter

A new polish added to my collection is this super-duper glitter…

Milani continues to make glitter that is spell-bounding, pigmented and just plain fun! This is ‘Twinkle.’ You can’t get much bluer in color than this.

I have on just 2 coats of ‘Twinkle.’ I didn’t get complete opaqueness but from a normal distance, it was not that obvious. A third coat for me would have gotten rid of the see-through.

‘Twinkle’ is made up of brilliant blue and violet glitter. It is jammin’ in that polish, I tell ya!

The last photo is in the shade. It washes out in color, but I like the look of it. It shows the real brilliance of the polish.

As with almost all glitter polishes, this one wasn’t easy to remove. However, it did apply well and wasn’t super gritty. Oh, and this manicure was over 2 days old. There’s barely any tip wear.

Is ‘Twinkle’ a glitter polish you can jam on?

Toss or Trash: March 2012 Part 3

OK…let’s wrap this segment up and put a cherry one top!

This third, and final, part finishes up with the body products…

Starting at the left: Bath and Body Work’s Apple Blossom Citrus body lotion; CeraVe PM Facial Lotion; Proclaim Natural 7 Oil; Southern Magnolia Minerals Hair and Skin Tonic; The Healing Garden Organics Pomegranate and Vanilla body spray.

These are all keepers!

Let me start with the Bath and Body Works lotion. I get the small sample bottles when they release them prior to the full size. I liked this one so I got the ‘main three’ that I get from B&BW; shower gel, body lotion and body spray. I liked this fragrance because it smells very fresh and clean.

The Proclaim 7 Oil I got at Sally’s. Now I have used this for a long time because the Sally’s I visit does not carry the Ginseng Miracle Oil that is sort of the same. The difference, to me, is the smell. Ginseng is more delightful. Anyhoo, the main oil in Proclaim is olive oil. I have been using this at night, along with cotton gloves, to help soften my cuticles. I found the Ginseng Oil just recently, so I’m using that now.

Ooohhh, let me tell you my love for the Healing Gardens body mist! I LOVE the smell of this. In a nutshell, I have only found this one time at Walgreens, some time back. It was a display sitting behind another, different one on the new product shelf. You know my snoopy self, I found it and wanted it. It didn’t ring up at the register. They called the store manager back and she said that it wasn’t suppose to be out and couldn’t sell it to me. As you can see from the photo, I won.

The CeraVe is a free sample I got at the Southern Women’s Home Show last year. I’ll save this for a Sample Sunday review.

Now, the best for last. If you read my blog often, you may have come across my posts for the best mineral foundation in the world: Southern Magnolia Minerals. This is an indy company that I have been purchasing my minerals from for well over 5 years, if not more. I got this Hair and Skin Tonic as a sample in my last order.

Is this something that I can use on my skin AND my hair? Yep! And I do. I just placed my order for the full size this weekend. Southern Magnolia Minerals had a weekend special where everything was 50%!!! I’ll do a full review on this tonic at a later date. I’ll leave with saying it smells great and works!!!

Do you see anything of interest? Have you tried any of these and would like to comment?

Toss or Trash: March 2012 Part 2

As I had mentioned in the previous post, Toss or Trash for March, I am finding it very gratifying to finish up products or letting them go because they are not giving me the benefit I thought they would. I’m also cleaning out my car garage. It’s high time that at least one car fit into a two-car garage. Now that’s gratifying!

Part 2 I will run through my toss or trash makeup products for March. Here are the items…

Starting at the top: Sally Hansen’s Prep & Perfect Lipcare: Avon’s Brilliant Moisture Lipcolor in Biqou; Sally Hansen’s eyeliner and mascara duo; Wet ‘n Wild’s Idol Eyes in Distress; Jane’s Colorsticks Eye Color & Liner in a shade I will call Lavender.

Item I have replaced: Sally Hansen’s Prep & Perfect Lipcare, it’s a primer and works. Towards the end, however, it started to get clumpy but would smooth out with my finger.

The item I want to replace: Sally Hansen’s eyeliner and mascara duo. The exact name of the product has worn off. I would replace this for the eyeliner color. The shade is a bronzed brown. The mascara wasn’t that good. Even though the mascara looks like the same color as the liner, it is black when I swatched it. And it dried up way before the pencil was done. I’m going to hang onto the pencil to see if I can run across a duplicate.

Everything else is getting tossed. The Idol Eyes was such a disappointment. I got all the colors and I think this is the issue with them all; they crease like mad. I tried everything I could think of to save it. The blue is vibrant and sultry. Same with the Jane eyestick. I couldn’t salvage that from creasing either.

The Avon lipstick is old and smells weird now. I easily have a dupe for it.

More stuff…

Top to bottom: Cargo’s Lash Activator in black; Physician’s Formula Shimmer Strips: Custom Eyeliner, Eye Shadow and Highlighter for Brown Eyes; Revlon’s Colorstay Liquid Eye Pen in blackened brown; Anastasia’s Lash Lifting Mascara in black; High Impact’s Shadow Fix.

Only keeper is Cargo’s mascara. I got this as a sample in my Birchbox. I have never used a Cargo product before, but I liked how this mascara lengthened my lashes. It has a flexible brush and that made a difference too.

The Shimmer Strips was too weak and cumbersome to use. The Revlon eye pen was cool, until it dried up, in the tube, on me. I feel it should have lasted longer. Anastasia’s mascara, I believe came in a Birchbox, but for a company that claims to be all that, this was sucky.

Last is the Shadow Fix. I couldn’t get this to behave. It’s supposed to be a shadow primer but it didn’t work for me.

I have one more blog on this subject and it will be on body products.

Any of these items work for you?

Toss or Trash: March 2012 Part 1

When I type my post, the font seems larger than when I actually publish it. So, I’m going to test out using the next size up. Let me know your thoughts in the comments.

It is actually fun seeing how many beauty products I use up and how many I’m OK with letting go. In fact, it is getting me to look for opportunities to toss or trash.

So that I don’t write a huge book (just a small one!), I’m going to break this segment down into parts like I did for February. At this rate, I may have to toss out tossed stuff to keep it down to an interesting level. I don’t know if I’d follow a blog that just talked about the crap someone was throwing away. 🙂

I’m going to start off with the hair products…

At the end of 2010, CVS had a huge clearance on Pantene. I mean HUGE! I stocked up on it like I was at Costco. I’m very fickle about shampoos and conditioners. Loyal only for as long as it takes to finish the product. And, I use several different ones at the same time…

Back row: Pantene Repair and Protect Shampoo; Pantene Fragile to Strong Conditioner; Pantene Beautiful Lengths Conditioner. Front row: L’Oreal’s EverStrong Overnight Repair Treatment; Creme of Nature’s Argan Oil: Gloss and Shine Polisher; Amika Oil Treatment; Beyond The Zone’s The Scruncher.

All of these are trash except for The Scruncher. I’m done with crispy, scrunched hair. No sense in hanging on to this.

The Pantene collection is just about 1/3 of what I purchased during the clearance. Pantene was redoing their packaging and they were clearing out the old. Pantene is a decent haircare line. I like it. However, I don’t see or feel a difference between the different formulas.

The two oils were very different. Creme of Nature is truly a polisher and not a product that added moisture. But Amika, which I got from my Birchbox, was rather nice. It had a great fragrance and my hair did feel softer while using it. However, it’s not my Macadamia Oil! That is my oil treatment standard.

The winner of the lot is the L’Oreal Overnight Repair Treatment. I actually got a small sample of this somewhere and loved it so much I did buy it. I’m on my second one now.

First, I love the fragrance of this…OMG! It’s a creme rather than a serum or lotion. It makes my hair feel soft and, of course, smell awesome. It isn’t oily but do remember, I color my hair and it is dry. One caveat, when I purchased a replacement, I found it at Walgreens as clearance. I’m hoping they are just changing the packaging, like Pantene did. I’ll be sad if I’m on the last treatment. I have noticed that I don’t see it at the Walmart or Target stores I shop in.

Are you using any of these products? Are you faithful to a haircare system or fickle, like me?

I Spy…New Polishes at Walgreens; Hard Candy at Walmart

Today, after doing four projects in four different stores, I still had a conference call at 3. It was getting close in time, so I stopped off at Walgreens just to pass some time. OK…and to look for new stuff.

When I find something new to share in the ‘I Spy’ posts, I’ll let you know if it is new to me. That means I don’t recall hearing or reading about it in all the blogs, tweets and Facebook posts I come across. That doesn’t mean no one else has blogged about it, though. Otherwise, I will comment that I have seen or read about it in the blog universe.

So, here’s what I found/discovered at Walgreens today…

A ‘new to me’ display of Sally Hansen Diamond Strength polishes. There are four polishes they call a base and then 4 glitter overcoats coordinating with the base colors.

Looky here…

These photos are with my phone so the colors are not as vivid as they are in true life. But here’s one that I liked the best…

It is just a bit more multi-colored than the photo shows. But not by much. This had to have been a newly set up display because only one polish was missing.

And, next to it was this Revlon display…

If you check out the model’s hand, you can see that, even with this washed-out photo, that the polish color is damn near the color of her skin. It is. And when I saw this display, it took my brain to see that comparison to realize that the polish isn’t white. It’s just a little bitty bit off. It’s one of those colors that doesn’t fit so nicely in a description. My go at it is to say it is the lightest ever taupy-white. Here’s what I do know: this isn’t a color that interests me.

And one final find. I saw this display at Walmart…

Here’s four Hard Candy products. I have seen these, in quick passing, in the regular makeup aisle. However, this one caught my eye and gave me perchance to pause. This display is called a ‘sidekick’. It hangs on the side of the end shelves and that is called an endcap. I see a lot of sidekicks at Walgreens. And, I’m seeing them more and more at Walmart too. It’s just another way to cram more product into the store. 🙂

In recap: I didn’t buy one item. Nope. I’m saving my money for the Orlando Premiere show coming up in June and then the Makeup Show that is in September. This is going to take more discipline than passing on cake and cookies!

Have you seen any of these items? Did you purchase any and tell me what you think about them.
