Cult Nail’s Mid-Summer Collection: Road Trip, Anyone?

Cult Nails is a company that I eagerly await what their next collection will be. The ‘Road Trip, Anyone‘ collection doesn’t disappoint.

Maria has worked for a very long time to get the perfect materials to create a holographic polish. Getting the best ingredients is a part of Maria’s high standards for quality. In this collection is ‘Mayham’, a holographic topcoat that has no rival.

There are the polishes…

cult nails road trip collection 002One shimmer, three cremes (with one having the wax look that Cult Nails has become known for) and the holographic top coat. Close up looks will make you want more…

cult nails road trip collection 003 cult nails road trip collection 004‘All Out’ is a shade that makes me a believer that yellow polishes CAN rock! And, talk about rock, I have seen on other beauty blogs where ‘All Out’ is used over ‘Be Loco’ and you really have to brace yourself for the all-out stunner look this becomes.

cult nails road trip collection 007 cult nails road trip collection 008The name ‘Riot’ is a mystery to me. Regardless of its name, this shade is a summer’s leaf green and is fresh. I feel happy wearing this shade.

cult nails road trip collection 011 cult nails road trip collection 013 cult nails road trip collection 015Good heavens, stop reading and just go order ‘Mayhem’! Every beauty/nail customer swoons over a holographic polish. Now, you can make just about every single polish into a holographic one with ‘Mayham’.

And, what perfect polishes to demonstrate this effect with than the adorable polishes in this collection…

Here’s ‘Mayhem’ over a bare nail…

cult nails road trip collection 019When I hear the word ‘Mayhem’ it makes me think of the All State Commercials. Cameras are Mayhem when trying to capture holographic polishes. They end up looking like just a glittery polish. But, if you are a true nail-esta, you know how much the camera is lying to you!!!

Naturally, I wouldn’t lie to you. ‘Mayhem’ is DA BOMB! And the rest of the collection is just what you need to fashion your nails on out for the rest of the summer.

This collection was purchased by me and these are my own, personal opinions.

Crayola’s Color Changing Shower Poof

Yes, yes. I know. I’m supposed to be working. However, I couldn’t help but notice other things in the store. I knew you’d want to see these too…

20130723_105844And, I like the colors they are already. Here’s a closer look…

20130723_105855 20130723_105904 20130723_105901How adorable. Who says you have to use a boring one color, regular, ol’ poof!?

As can happen at Walmart, there was no price tag on this display. The unusual thing, I didn’t get one. But then, I’m not a ‘poof’ type of person. My husband is. But he only likes black, navy or white ones. Yea, he wants the one color, regular, ol’ poof.

Would you be compelled to get yourself one?

Wet ‘N Wild’s Pop Art Craze Collection Summer 2013

When I found these, I felt like I had won a lottery!!…

new WnW 002I swung by a Walgreens, just on a lark, and find ’em. All of them! I will show them each individually and close up…like you have them right in your hands…

new WnW 004 new WnW 005 new WnW 006 new WnW 008 new WnW 009 new WnW 010I don’t even have a favorite; they are all cool combos. However, this is the first one I tried: ‘A Regular At The Factory’…

new WnW 019new WnW 022#2 wnw eotd new WnW 060I wore a super bright orange tech shirt that went well with the orange shade.

Today, this is the palette, ‘Three’s A Party’, I went with…

new WnW 023 new WnW 024 bad eye photos 008So, it was the end of the day and I had too much creasing to do a closed lid photo. But, I can tell you that the black matte shade is awesome for a smoky eye.

Here are the others begging me to try them next…

new WnW 041 new WnW 044 ‘Hard Being The It Girl’new WnW 035 new WnW 037 ‘To Muse And Carouse’new WnW 028 new WnW 030‘I’m Seeing Triples’

new WnW 013‘Your 15 Minutes Isn’t Up’. Well, it must have been, because I didn’t take a photo of this palette by itself.

I wish the companies would just forgo these worthless pieces…

new WnW 011Well, maybe just the brush. Two sponge applicators would be OK.

Here’s what I discovered about these new Limited Editions…I like them. I like that they are fresh combos. There are several that are very creamy. And, you may notice that the peachy shade of ‘To Muse And Carouse’ is very, very faint. That is perfect for keeping the tone down. I used a swab to swatch some of these, the sponge applicator for others. I didn’t use any brushes. You’ll notice that there is some fallout. I left it on my swatches so you can see which ones did that for me.

I can make these as subtle or as bold as I want. Save for the peachy shade I mentioned above, they are all totally buildable. It is fun to have ‘fun’ shades. However, this summer has been full of fun shades. More so than I can remember in past summers.

Which ones do you like? Will you get a of them since they are a limited collection?

elf Lip Lock: Corral That Lipstick

e.l.f. studio has been releasing quite a few new products and expanding on the ones they already have. If you are shopping for makeup brushes, do give them a consideration!

The new product I have for today is a lip liner that is clear and you trace the outside of your lips with it. This is to prevent your lipstick (and, gloss as you will see below) from bleeding or feathering out from the lips.

I like a good Lip Lock but, this is a different type of Lip Lock. elf gives us a Lip Lock pencil…

lip elf libby kick stix 001 lip elf libby kick stix 002 lip elf libby kick stix 004It makes sense to have it only come in clear, don’t you agree?

lip elf libby kick stix 005 lip elf libby kick stix 006Simple, right? Gee, even if you mess up, how can you tell? It’s clear!…

lip elf libby kick stix 009Can you tell where I swatched it?…

lip elf libby kick stix 011That’s the point; you shouldn’t see it. So, I traced it around the outside of my lips and then applied a new gloss I purchased recently…

lip elf libby kick stix 014This is about 2 hours after applying Lip Lock and the Forever 21 gloss. Even with this super slippery but sticky gloss, the Lip Lock worked.

A bit about this gloss. As I mentioned, it is from Forever 21. It is a mini that came in a box of three…

lip elf libby kick stix 017 lip elf libby kick stix 019There is no flavor or fragrance but it is very pigmented. On the downside, it is sticky and it roamed around my mouth as I wore it today before using Lip Lock.

This red has no name of its own. And, it isn’t quite as orange as the photos are presenting…

lip elf libby kick stix 020Since my gloss stayed inside of the lines, I count this as a win. Plus, it is only $3. And, I can see Lip Lock being a product that would be good to travel with; you wouldn’t need to bring a collection of lip liners; Lip Lock will have you covered for any gloss or lipstick. Yet, I feel that Lip Lock is nothing more than a chapstick pencil. I haven’t tried it but, I can see using Soft Lips in clear for the same thing.

Have you tried Lip Lock? Do you think a clear chapstick product could do about the same thing?

How Back To School Can Save Bucks For Beauty Devotee

When I was a kid, I HATED to see the back to school supplies showing up in stores. It was a taunt that my summer vacation was almost over. Now, I snicker because, hey, I don’t get months off only to return back to work. I just work. And work. And work.

In some twisted way, I love shopping for school supplies, even though it has been years since I have been to school. But, I found a way to shop the supplies and use them as a beauty fanatic. Er, I mean, as someone who likes organization and utilizing my space the best way.

Have you been shopping for makeup bags? And, I don’t mean just lately. Makeup bags have been expensive for a long time. I don’t get even why. So, when I found a little lunch bag in the clearance aisle at Walmart several months back, my brain did a spin out!

That’s when I discovered that I could use a kid’s school lunch bag as a makeup bag. Saves me a ton of money! Here’s what I got today…

lunch bags Hello Kitty 018Hello, Kitty! Will you hold my makeup? Sure!…

lunch bags Hello Kitty 025The one on the left is my new one. I have filled up my first one with lots of untried polishes and nail supplies.

lunch bags Hello Kitty 026Heck, you don’t have to get a Hello, Kitty bag. They had this cute owl one too…

lunch bags Hello Kitty 017I didn’t stop with just lunch bags. Last year, I picked up some pencil boxes to store my mineral makeup jars…

makeup storage 001makeup storage 003If you are into inexpensive choices, these boxes rock!…

lunch bags Hello Kitty 020 lunch bags Hello Kitty 019Even these little boxes could hold lip and/or eye liners…

lunch bags Hello Kitty 022 Now, don’t you think that these containers are a lot cuter and a better price than the makeup bags you find in the cosmetic aisles?

Toss or Trash: Random Collections

During my move to another state, I have been actually saving my trash and toss items. And I have boxes of new products to review. However, along with moving there has been apartment hunting, starting a new job and just learning my way around. First order of business, after getting a new vehicle, was…where are the Walgreens, are there Ulta stores near by and, how do I get to Rite Aid?

Let me show you some of the bottom of the pan/can/bottle items…

toss or trash 011These are two new-to-me products. I wanted to test out something different than my usual fare. Suave is a product that I used in my early adult years. Mainly because it is inexpensive. However, this time I picked the ‘milk and honey splash’ for the aroma. It isn’t overwhelming; it’s a fresh, warm fragrance. And this wash didn’t dry out my skin. This is trash because I would use it again.

The Sauve Max Hold hairspray was another attempt at giving a new-to-me product a try. Again, I was quite happy with this hairspray. It didn’t have hardly any aroma, it didn’t make my hair feel dried out and, it did hold my hair in place. Mostly I spray my bangs and the wispies behind my ears. Sauve, again, is something I can recommend for those that, like me, have fine hair and want to keep it in place without a crunchy feel.

Here are a a couple of toss items and, one trash…

toss or trash 016On the far left is a Laura Geller clear lip gloss. It WAS clear. I like Laura Geller products very much. And even though this gloss was nice, it was not so stellar that it is something I can’t live without.

In the middle is another Laura Geller product that is used to make a shadow into a liner. I used this quite a bit. However, once it is used for one shade, it starts to contaminate the next shades I would pick. Laura Geller has another product similar to this that is in a small squeeze bottle and does the job in a way that there is no contamination between uses. I will deem this a toss because I wouldn’t repurchase it.

toss or trash 017

Last is ‘Degree: Sheer Powder’ antiperspirant and deodorant. As a faithful reader, you know that deodorant is something that I’m so fickle about. I never get the same brand or fragrance twice. However, I can say that I like this Degree and the fragrance was light and powdery; just as it is named. I didn’t have any staining or marks on my clothing from using this product. It did its job and I can recommend it.

toss or trash 018

With the exception of the Laura Geller products, you can find the other items at most drug and mass retail stores. Laura Geller has been selling her products for over a year at Ulta and I’m happy to see that she has made them easier to purchase by doing so. The two products of hers that I have reviewed, I purchased from QVC.

Have you tried any of these products?

Porcelana: I See Spots

My paternal grandma had them. I see them on other mature women too. Now I’m getting them. Liver spots is what Grandma called them. Whatever they could be, I don’t want them!! I’m sure that not putting an SPF on the back of my hands, while growing up, has led to this.

Before I head off to a med spa to treat these spots, because that’s where I’m headed, I’m trying to use an over the counter product. So far, not so good. I grew up seeing Porcelana commercials. So, I got me a day and night cream…

toss or trash 019toss or trash 022I tried the pair for four months straight. I even would apply the day cream twice a day when I thought of it. I really, really, REALLY wanted it to work.

The package makes some impressive claims. This is from the day cream…

toss or trash 047The night cream gives the same type of claims…

toss or trash 057Kudos to the day cream for putting in SPF…

toss or trash 043But, it doesn’t say how much sunscreen. And, if it didn’t do a thing for fading my spots, can I trust it to have SPF too?

A bit of a look at the ingredients in the day cream. I see mineral oil and that doesn’t make me happy…

toss or trash 064

On the top is the night cream. Below, is the day cream that I found to be thicker and didn’t absorb into my skin hardly at all. And underneath both creams, age spots that are still present…

toss or trash 040As disappointed as I am, the $8 I shelled out for each of these wasn’t a huge loss. My faith in a ‘tried and true’ product disappoints me more. Maybe I have particularly stubborn spots and these two products work for others. All I can say is that, for me, Porcelana wasn’t spot on.

Are you old enough to consider using Porcelana? If you ever have, did it work?
