Don’t It Make My Brown Eyes…Green?

In the past 15 years, I have noticed that my eyes are becoming more and more green. I always considered them brown; a medium brown. But this week, they had so much green, I had to capture it in a photo…

polishes green eye 279Not too noticeable in this snap. And hey, it’s hard to take a photo of your own eye!

polishes green eye 280 This one gets in a bit tighter. As a sideline: that deepest wrinkle under my eye is actually a scar. However, it used to be right under the eyelid. In 30 years, it has moved, as you can see. I broke the bone around my eye; both top and bottom. That scar was made when the doctor went in and wired my bone together. The top one is hidden in my brow. I think the doctor did a fine job of not scarring me up. Unlike some of the other work I received in that car accident.

But I am regressing. I want to show you that eye colors can change…

polishes green eye 283My younger sister insists that my eyes are brown. She doesn’t see any green there at all. I say they have a lot of green in them. And, there’s no point in asking my husband because he is blue/green colorblind.

What color do you see? Is the color called ‘hazel’ or, is that only from green/blue eyes? What color are your eyes?

Forever 21: I Haven’t Been There In Forever

My job no longer allows me the opportunity of working in malls. I’m bummed by that. I miss shopping the stores after doing my merchandising. I really miss popping into Forever 21. Luckily, there is one in the mall that I live close to. I just don’t get up by it at all.

So, I made a special road trip to visit the Forever 21. This store is huge too! I picked up this cutie blue on this last visit…

nail swatches 044 nail swatches 046Hmmm…interesting name. I rather like ‘Cutie Blue’ better. It was that shimmer of gold that reeled me in. I didn’t even try to resist…

nail swatches 047Application was on the thin side and I had to use three coats. A visible nail line is still well, visible. Rest assured, it wasn’t that noticeable from a proper distance…

nail swatches 049 nail swatches 053This Forever 21 polish wore well considering I used Nail Tek 2 Intensive Therapy as a top coat. It’s actually made to be used right on the nail to strengthen it. But, I couldn’t for the life of me find any topcoats. Weird, eh??

I stopped by a Walgreens today. I noticed that they have those top shelves up over the shampoo and haircolor products. Not all of them have those shelves until the Holidays. Get ready to start peeking up there for Holiday makeup goodies!

Julie G: Matte Sparkle Collection From Groupon

Have you purchased anything from Groupon? I scour their daily newsletter for something that is a good buy or, for something I have wanted to try out. I don’t think there is one thing I have purchased that I have ever been disappointed in either. Getting this set of JulieG polishes did not disappoint…

nail swatches 004In a sea of pastels during Spring and Summer, it is a welcome change to have bright colors. These are right up my alley too.

Let’s start…

nail swatches 006nail swatches 020 nail swatches 008‘Tangerine Dream’ looks a super yummy icee drink. The glitter in this is fiery.

There’s a little tip noted on each bottle…

nail swatches 007Now another fiery shade…

nail swatches 010 nail swatches 011 nail swatches 019‘Sugar Rush’ looks like molten lava. I’m crazy on this one too.

nail swatches 012 nail swatches 013 nail swatches 021‘Hot Cinnamon’ rocks out a glittery red that is sure to win over any red nail polish lover. Like me.

nail swatches 022 nail swatches 015 nail swatches 014‘Rock Candy’ is probably the least dimensional of the set. It’s still pretty but not as outstanding as its mates.

nail swatches 017 nail swatches 018 nail swatches 016‘Crushed Candy’ is another one, like ‘Rock Candy’ that doesn’t have the umph that the oranges and red have. Still pretty and, they both look much better on the nail than in the bottle.

The entire collection is a winner. It was fun to wear these when there were so many pastels around. Not being so much of a pastel polish wearer, it is nice that Julie G’s brand contributed a different twist of fun summer colors this year. I used two medium, thick coats to achieve this look…

nail swatches 024 nail swatches 025 nail swatches 028Oh, and I tried it, then, with a shiny top coat, just for kicks…

nail swatches 034The tip was a good idea. A top coat doesn’t add a thing to these sparklers.

The last thing I purchased from Groupon was a set of sheets. They are chocolate colored with a faint embossing of leaves. They are gorgeous and soft. I have never had dark colored sheets before so spending $30 for them worked out perfectly. What have you bought from Groupon?

Sally Hansen’s Sugar Coat Collection

Just like the crackle craze where every polish brand was jumping on board, we are seeing the same thing with textured polish. Some of them I am really loving. Sadly, Sally Hansen’s Sugar Coat is not in that camp…

Mega swatch day 332 Mega swatch day 334I am not a patient person. I will rush a polish to dry and it never dries fast enough for me, no matter what. Even if I manage to sit still I start getting itchy or, I have to use the bathroom. I know I’m not alone here!

My point is, that when I rush a polish to dry, I can end up making it look like this…

nail swatches 003Two coats and it isn’t appealing to me at all. It looks like I put the coats on too close together and got bubbles. It doesn’t look like a textured polish that is supposed to be ‘on purpose’. Nevertheless, here it is and I can’t give it my recommendation…

Mega swatch day 335I am happy that I only picked up three and I got them with a $1 coupon at Walgreens.

I need to know, do you like this collection?

Milani: Eyeshadow Primer; It Works In The Nude

In a search for a damn good shadow primer, I’m paying whatever I can get my hands on. Sort of. When I found out that Milani had an eyeshadow primer, I made a point of hunting it down. I found this one at Walgreens. However, it was in a Walgreens in Orlando; not in Denver. I have learned that Walgreens doesn’t carry Milani in Denver. Yet, I have heard that there are a few that are starting to…

Mega swatch day 305 Mega swatch day 306The info on the packages always reads so promising…

Mega swatch day 308It doesn’t have to be nude; I just want it to hold my eyeshadows for at least 6 hours…

Mega swatch day 307However, nude it is…

Mega swatch day 310 Mega swatch day 312Milani’s primer is more liquid-y than the competition’s. It appears to be quite thick in the above photo, though. Swatched on my hand, it gives you a better idea about its consistency…

Mega swatch day 313And, it blends right in. I mean, like easily and dries fast!

Mega swatch day 314If I apply a very, very thin amount of a primer on my lids, I’m getting better and longer wear. So, more is not really better for me.

My verdict is that Milani’s Eyeshadow Primer is a hit. It worked with making my eyeshadow last up to 5 hours. One thing it didn’t do was intensify the shadow’s color. After discovering that the formula was on the thin side, I wasn’t surprised. This primer is a keeper and Milani doesn’t disappoint. That’s why they are one of my top drugstore brands.

What primer is the holy grail for you?

From Sample to Sell: L’Oreal’s Miracle Blur

I’m not alone, am I, with loving the small samples of skin care products that come in beauty magazines? Since becoming a beauty blogger, I don’t just try them out and say ‘well, that’s nice’. I check it out as a research project. Really!

I went ahead and bought L’Oreal’s Revitalift Miracle Blur after using the sample…

Mega swatch day 133After reading the ad and then experiencing the sample, I was motivated to purchase Miracle Blur. Here are some of the reasons I found Miracle Blur to be of interest…

Mega swatch day 137We are working with an SPF 30 here. That’s my minimum level. I really wish I would have been more concerned about using an SPF when I was younger. But, I don’t think it was discovered yet!! Next reason…

Mega swatch day 134It says ‘erases the look’, it doesn’t hide it or cover it. The light-reflecting properties divert the light from the areas you apply this. Also note, it doesn’t say that it moisturizes the skin. You still need a moisturizer.

Here’s some info from the back as well as the ingredients…

Mega swatch day 135Even though those chemicals are hard to pronounce, they do work as a sunscreen. Do keep in mind that many of these ingredients can cause skin irritations more readily than other skin moisturizers. I suggest making your purchase of Miracle Blur at a store that allows returns so you don’t waste any money.

The texture of this product is…different. It’s one that is difficult to explain. The closest I can come to explaining it is that it reminds me of the left-over goo from the lotion dispenser’s tip. You know how it’s not smooth but just a bit sticky? Miracle Blur is close to that…

Mega swatch day 139But, it rubs in very smoothly…

Mega swatch day 141It has a bit of ‘slip’ to it and I found that my mineral foundation stayed in place very well. When I used a liquid foundation, it blended very smoothly. And on a few occasions, I wore the Miracle Blur alone. That’s rare and usually a day when I’m staying in. But, it is still important that I put an SPF on my skin. Especially since I am enjoying sitting outside in the evening facing West.

Have you tried Miracle Blur? Do you look forward to using the skin care samples from magazines?

Sally Hansen’s Fuzzy Polishes Meet Cult Nail’s Cream Polishes

Lots of photos; not much words…

Mega swatch day 070These are the Sally Hansen’s and the Cult Nail’s nails before combining them…

Mega swatch day 045And, my match made in heaven looks…Mega swatch day 064 I love using Cult Nail’s cream polishes for layering. Both compliment each other quite nicely.

Do you have either of these brands and shades?

Forever 21: 6-Pan Cream Eyeshadows

What I didn’t tell you in my previous post on a Forever 21 cream eyeshadow palette is that I got 2 palettes…

Mega swatch day 017 Mega swatch day 018Not too similar in shades, I am still fixated on the splatter effect. This palette, being smaller, is less overwhelming but, not dismissive at all…

Mega swatch day 021 Mega swatch day 020 Mega swatch day 019These fun shadow creams have not been wear-tested yet. I have been trying out another type of shadow. However, this one is eagerly sitting in line for its turn.

The swatches dance in the sunlight. They come off like duochromes. You can’t help but be mesmerized…

Mega swatch day 025 Mega swatch day 029 Mega swatch day 030The swatches are ‘swiped’ rather than ‘swirled’. I didn’t mix the splatters to create the swatched color. I just took a swab, loaded it up with some shadow and transferred it to my arm. That is why there are some various colors in amongst the swatches themselves.

The creamiest of creams, these glide on as smooth as warm butter. Using just these shades should create some attractive EOTD (eye-of-the-day look).

Mega swatch day 022 Mega swatch day 023 Mega swatch day 024Rather cosmic, wouldn’t you say?

Kiehl’s Skin Tone Correcting and Beautifying BB Cream

Ever since I got the opportunity to attend a special Central Florida Beauty Blogger Nordstrom’s beauty preview last year, I have been hooked on Kiehl’s products. Then Kiehl’s opened their own store in that same mall and, the Central Florida Beauty Bloggers were invited to their Grand Opening. As I learned more and more about Kiehl’s and got to try out samples (Kiehl’s is big on samples), I found even more of their products to love.

So, when they introduced a BB Cream, I knew I was going to get it at the next opportunity. And, with an SPF 50, it was a grand idea…

Mega swatch day 104 BB Creams are sheer so I use this either as a moisturizer before putting on foundation or, when I am going to have a no actual makeup day. I still get the moisturizing properties and a healthy dose of SPF. The added vitamin C helps with the turn-over rate of my skin. Cheers for a healthy glow!

The Kiehl’s representative agreed that the light shade would be perfect for me…

Mega swatch day 105Even though it looks a bit dark right out of the bottle…

Mega swatch day 108I found that once blended in, I get a fresh look to go with protecting my skin…

Mega swatch day 109 Mega swatch day 110 Mega swatch day 111This BB Cream didn’t leave my skin tacky or shiny, as I find some BB Creams to be. And often, products with an SPF over 30 are hard to apply evenly on my skin. Kiehl’s dries to a semi-matte once I apply setting powder. I didn’t get shiny after just a couple of hours. Yet my skin felt supple.

I haven’t found a BB Cream that gives medium to full coverage. However, as far as including a healthy SPF of 50, keeping my skin soft and moisturized and aiding in the turnover of skin cells, Kiehl’s, literally, has me covered.

Have you tried Kiehl’s BB Cream? Is this something you would consider using?

Forever 21: Creamy Splatter Eyeshadows

It has been several months since I have been to Forever 21. My current client is not in malls, just Walmart and grocery stores. So, no mall work. Boooo! So, I don’t get to visit many of the stores that I used to and, Forever 21 is one of those. Luckily, the mall that is close to me (not counting an outlet mall in the city I live in) does have a Forever 21. I’m so due for a shopping day there. Maybe this weekend.

Anyway, during one of my past visits, I got this colorful palette of cream shadows…

Mega swatch day 010 Mega swatch day 016 Mega swatch day 012I rarely use cream shadows because almost all shadows, and especially cream ones, crease like crazy on me. However, the cool splatter, speckle effects gave way to any excuses I came up with to not buy them…

Mega swatch day 036 Mega swatch day 035 Mega swatch day 034 Mega swatch day 033 Mega swatch day 032 Mega swatch day 031I am SO sorry I waited so long to swatch these. I love the colors! I swatched the four largest circles first…

Mega swatch day 041Here are the 7 smaller circles…

Mega swatch day 079 Mega swatch day 075I wore that orange and slate gray the ever next day!!!

Here’s what was fun; look at the circles after they have been swatched…

Mega swatch day 083 Mega swatch day 082 Mega swatch day 081 Mega swatch day 074Not a one of them turned out exactly like I thought it would. I gave the two shades I mentioned above a try. I wasn’t too hopeful though but, I was loving how it went on so easily. I used Ofra’s eye primer, which happens to be the best performing primer for me at the moment, and made a stunning look. Nope, I didn’t snap a photo. By the time I remember, I’m already driving to work. But, mark my words, I got 5 hours of staying power with that look. I didn’t put the creams on lightly either. It was a very bold orange and gray blend.

My lesson is don’t wait so dang long before I swatch new products! Well, a lot of the posts I have coming up are just like this Forever 21 cream palette; I have had them for way too long and now I’m sorry I didn’t break into them earlier.

Plus, I do owe you an EOTD look with these creams.

Have you seen these? What cream shadow is your favorite?
