Moody Nudes Palette from L A Colors

I do go bananas for palettes. Mostly shadow palettes. I still remember my very first one; a Maybelline one. Truthfully, I remember sitting outside on our porch just gazing at all the colors. It was probably a 10 color palette. It was around 1978 and it was just rocking my teen world!

Now, Winter Holidays get me excited to see what makeup palettes there will be. There wasn’t a shortage of them, was there!?!!! So many cheapy ones; I knabbed right away. This one was at Rite Aid…

auto curler swatches 267 auto curler swatches 268I didn’t realize it until right now that this palette does have a name: Moody Nudes. I think that is because the one other set was lots of brights. But, this one suits me just fine. I am drooling like a teen over these shades…

Since this was only $2, if they payoff wasn’t there, I wasn’t going to really be sad. I think I got better than a $2 thrill just taking some fun photos of them.

Yet, I can’t say I’m too disappointed…

auto curler swatches 290 auto curler swatches 289Just some randomly chosen swatches. I used the sponge applicator that came with the set. So yes, there is some fallout. And, as with many inexpensive (and we have found some not so cheap) black shadows, patchiness. However, I am pleasantly surprised that most of these shades actually do blend out fairly nicely. There are two factors that I think went a long way in making this L A Colors palette get better than just a passing grade: One is that I used a shadow primer when I worked with these on my own lids. And two, I use nicer quality brushes. I ditched that sponge applicator after the swatch shoot! Don’t get me wrong, I’ve done and have seen some wickedly done looks with those spongy things. What I am trying to say is that you might not be able to get quality shadows, or any makeup for that matter, because of circumstances. But, always try to get the best brushes you can afford.

Even the kicked up dust was pretty…

Do you agree with my opinion on saving for good quality makeup brushes? Now, a really hard question: Do you remember your first eye shadow palette?

Facial Wipe Wednesday: Pond’s Luminous Clean Facial Towelettes

Even though it has been a while since I have done a Facial Wipe Wednesday review, I have still been using and testing cleansing facial towelettes. However, it’s time to catch you up on those that I have been trying out.

Pond’s is a beauty brand that you can say ‘they’ve been around foreeeeverrrr!’ And, you would be correct. Pond’s is one of the first skincare products I remember. I dare say it is one that I think of from my Grandma’s generation. Still holding their own, they have slowly been resurrecting themselves to generations younger than mine, which is the very last 2 years of the baby-boomer generation.

If you didn’t catch my review on Pond’s BB Cream, you can click here and find out why I think their BB Cream is ALL that!

As with many beauty brands, they can have different collections within their brand. Each collection focuses on solving a particular issues. One of the newest for Pond’s is their ‘Luminous Clean’ collection. The pink packaging of ‘Luminous Clean’ helps distinguish it from the older collections. I picked up this trial size package of 5 wipes to satisfy my curiousity…

This little packet is perfect for throwing in your purse or gym bag. I am always impressed when a company will make the peel seal strong enough to stay closed after being opened over and over. I don’t want any towel juice staining the inside of my purse! No problems with Pond’s…

Kaolin clay sucks out those impurities. It grabs ahold those scruffy, dull top skin cells and lifts them right off. Now your dewy, soft skin radiates through. Thus, luminous!!!

Oh, and these wipes are the softest too…

auto curler swatches 200Even though they have a texture, they are very gentle to the touch. I don’t feel Pond’s was skimpy on the size of each wipe either. One was plenty to cleanse my face…

I can’t tell you if the waffle-weave is used on all Pond’s facial wipes but I’m glad it is used for the Luminous wipes. You can see that this is a very intricate weave…

auto curler swatches 199The wipe has a very gentle fragrance. I didn’t find it strong at all. In fact, I only noticed it when I put my thoughts on it. It’s a fresh, clean and light smell. My face felt completely clean after using just one towelette. I didn’t feel an immediate need to get moisturizer on my skin afterwards. I didn’t feel any residue, just clean skin ready for my next skincare step which is to use a toner and then a night time moisturizer.

After the 5 days, I feel very strongly in being able to recommend Pond’s Luminous Clean Facial Towelettes to any skin type except to those that are extremely sensitive. The Vanity is perfectly OK with these wonderful wipes being on the vanity and, that Pond’s has made this a pink-coded collection is beside the point.

Have you tried Pond’s lately? Do you feel that the beginnings of Winter are making your skin dull and need to freshen it up?

Rite Aid Rhinestone Christmas Polishes

Don’t be afraid to use your Christmas/Winter Holiday nail polishes for real ornaments. They can be that cute! It’s a tie between the girly bottles and the actual polish which is more festive…

DSCF0043DSCF0051Gosh, if the brand is called ‘Ornaments’, I think anyone would be remiss if they called you on it!

I didn’t go into Rite Aid to look for new polish. But, can I make myself feel a bit better by saying I did limit myself to just three! These have no names…

DSCF0047but you’ll leave an impression with your festive nails if you decorate yourself with any of these three. There are two coats..

DSCF0041This one is a collection of all the glitter that falls off in the wake of a fast-moving elf…

DSCF0046I will move this one over to the Mardi Gras possibles if I don’t get to it this Christmas…

DSCF0048This pink glitter doesn’t have to hide out just for the Winter Holidays either. Two photos in different lighting but, still the same polish..

DSCF0050 DSCF0049I have more Christmas/Winter polishes than I can possibly wear during one season. That’s the truth! Next year, I am going to have a Christmas party at my house with a ‘Come Paint Your Nails For Your Holidays’ theme. I’ll provide food, drinks and polish!

It’s just too frightful for me to even think about counting how many Christmas Holiday polishes I have! What would you guess? I’m going to say about 125. Gulp! How about you?

2013 Disney Villain ELF Palettes: Cruella De Vil

Fair warning: These sets are done and gone! I run across a straggler every now and then when prowling around at Walgreens. I’m talking about the Villians’ makeup sets from ELF. I got all four and with just a couple of exceptions, I love these. Here’s Cruella De Vil…

swatches and dining table 004 swatches and dining table 005 swatches and dining table 009This one has the biggest of all of the disappointments…..who thought it was OK to put in a PEACH lippie in a Cruella De Vil palette??!!! Sort of…..cruel, eh???

But, the rest of the items are awesome…

swatches and dining table 010All of the palettes had a mascara, liquid eyeliner and a pencil liner. All in black, sadly.

The packaging provides a day and a nighttime look…

swatches and dining table 007 swatches and dining table 006

And, here’s the lippie….dang it! And I don’t even care one bit for this peachy shade, either…

swatches and dining table 014 swatches and dining table 026Keep the eye primer for yourself but, gift the peach lipstick. I noticed that this lipstick does match the liner from a previous Cruella elf set from last year.

You’ll be happier with the shadows. These were pigmented and blendable…

swatches and dining table 018 swatches and dining table 019 swatches and dining table 021This brush is the same type that is in every set too but, since it is one of my favorite elf brushes, I sure didn’t mind getting more of them…

swatches and dining table 030 swatches and dining table 031Of the four sets, the Cruella De Vil one is my least favorite. I feel the basic red, black and white look she has was totally forsaken. Her name was slapped on this set and not ‘inspired’ by her one iota.

That aside, I still like the shadow colors…

swatches and dining table 043 swatches and dining table 041Did you get your Disney Villain sets? I bought 2 photo editing programs this Cyber Monday. I can’t wait to learn how to fix white balance. It has always eluded me.
