A Deep Purple That Clears the Smoke on the Water

Oh, my goodness!  I went over 666 followers so fast!  Everyone scurries around when there’s a giveaway!  LOL!  I do hope it’s a good one for everyone.  Go here if you haven’t entered.

I love checking in at Forever 21 to see what new nail polishes they have in.  I’d think they’d have more (new) pastels but I’m finding tons of ‘inky vamps.’  Here’s one of them….

My photos are not as crisp as they usually are.  I wonder if I accidentally moved the settings.  I’ve already been dealing with a long-term accident.  Since October, last year, I’ve had a right shoulder ache.  It wouldn’t go away.  Even with excessive whining and complaining.  It has stopped my weight lifting cold in its tracks.

A month ago, my hubs finally caught me with no more excuses, so I went to an orthopedic.  You know what that means; cortisone shot.  After this super cute doctor got away with giving me that shot, he wanted me back in one month.  It has not been much better since.  Friday he did an ultra-sound and confirmed: I have a partial tear in my rotator cuff.  He wants me to have surgery within the next 2 months before it totally tears.  Gulp!

Can a purple polish chase away the blues?  Today it can…

‘Dark Purple’, indeed!  Why, that’s not good enough!!  How about ‘Deep Purple Smoke on the Water’? Sort of a long name but, so is the song.  hee heee!

Lovely in 3 coats.  I topped it off with Color Club’s ‘Eco Chic Top Coat’.

More purple than blue, ‘Deep Purple’ takes the blues away, just for a while, and gives me a smile.

So, do you have a ‘feel good’ polish color?

If You Love It, Why Don’t You Marry It?

Whoa!  Did I have my mind blown by this one!…

This is Color Club’s ‘Total Mystery’ from the Alter Ego collection.  Here is why I want to marry it…

If you have heard or read the word ‘Blurple’ thrown around in nail/makeup blog-dom, this is the color we are talking about.  However, cameras do not always love blurple, so this ends up looking blue and may cause you to scratch your head in confusion.

Check out the color of the bottle.  That’s much more purple than my nails.  In real life, the bottle’s color is what it looks like.  It’s a blurple jelly with fuchsia and blue micro-glitter.  This is 3 coats with a coat of Seche Clear and a coat of Vite.  Shine-topia!!!

I stared at this mani a lot.  In fact, I’m still rockin’ it.  Trust me; this is way more purple.  But I shouldn’t try to convince you of my love; we were just meant to be.

Have you had a polish that you had a hard time moving on from?  What was it?

The Outlet Mall Blues

American Apparel is not a store I frequent.  However, when I found out they carried some very nice nail polishes, it was worth looking into.

Living in Orlando, FL, there is not only a lot of retail commerce, but also a lot of outlet malls.  The tourists love ’em.  Googling for a local location of American Apparel informed me that there was one at one of the malls I do work at.  Great!  I’ll visit next time I go there, I thought.

Very quickly and I’ll get on with the swatching…Outlet malls used to mean that the products were older and cheaper (sometimes even seconds) than what are found at the regular stores.  Not so at the outlet malls around here.  Blog postings were stating that the polish at American Apparel was $6.  It was the same at the store I visited.  However, they were selling 3 for $15.

Not one to miss a good deal, I picked three colors.  But only on my second visit.  I left the first time in agony from trying to decide which ones I wanted.  It reminded me of the first time I went to buy a cell phone; too many to choose from!  I couldn’t decide!

On the second visit, I quickly snatched three up and fled.  Well, I did pay first. This was the only American Apparel in the city and I didn’t want to get banned from there.  I’d be coming back for more polish!

Finally…

This is Mount Royal.  It is a blurple.  It’s a blurple creme.  It’s gorgeous.

Shows a bit truer to its color out in the sunlight.  Look at the shine!

Mount Royal went on like butter, for lack of anything clever to compare.  But it’s true.  This formula is heaven.  And I’m only using 2 coats here without even considering a third.  No brush stroke marks, no cuticle puddling, just perfection.

Even though it appears to be tip wear on my thumb’s edge, that’s actually a reflection shine.  I do have the one BC, 2 Seche Clear, 2 coats color, 1 Seche Clear and finally 1 Seche Vite. regime I follow.  Yet, after 1-1/2 days of wear, I did chip off a noticeable chunk on my middle finger.

At $5 a bottle, not a regret.  I will get more.  And I’ll be swatching the other two in the future. Just be warned: Just because it calls itself an outlet mall doesn’t mean the items will be cheaper than what’s found at a regular mall.

Do you like American Apparel polish?  Or, do you have it on your lemming list?  Do you like to shop at outlet malls?
