Like A 12 Year Old In A Candy Shop; Claire’s New Polish

This new shade, Claire’s ‘Candy Shop’, is getting some press. I have only found one and boy, did I snatch it up! I hadn’t read anything on this until after I got it. But it is worth the buzz.

This polish makes the 12 year old in me cheer…

‘Candy Shop’ makes me think of ‘Whimsical’. Both are light-hearted and just fun to wear.

Take a gander at this confetti amount of glitter in a dusty pink base…

I don’t know how many different sizes of glitter are in this polish but I think it is a lot! And there are a lot of colors too. I’m not using this word lightly; jam-packed!

OK, back on track. The base of ‘Candy Shop’ is opaque enough that I didn’t have to put on underwear. Yes, the 12 year old that lives in me laughed out loud too…

This is just 2 coats! And to my surprise, this glitter lays down way better than I thought it would. I topped it with a coat of Seche Vite just to keep my hair from snagging on it,though. But the removal was typical of large glitter polish. It was as stubborn as making a 12 year old go to school on Mondays.

This was a fun manicure to do and to photo, as well. I must have taken 100 pictures. And you might not have noticed until I pointed it out but, I have a really wicked hang nail going on with my middle finger. Puffy and ouchy. Too bad I can’t ignore it.

Have you seen this polish yet? Does it look like a 12 year old’s favorite polish? In 29 days, I am going to be old enough to say, I’m going to start my second childhood. It’s THE ultimate landmark birthday: 50. I think I’ll stay with 12. At lease mentally.

Purple Hex Glitter Troubles

When I was a kid, I used to get into trouble (sort of) because I didn’t like to follow directions. More realistically, I wanted to play outside the box. So it’s no surprise when I show these types of swatches.

First, I try on Forever 21’s Love & Beauty ‘Purple’ all by itself. Let me show you how awesome this glitter is…

Hex-y-topia glitter in there!!

Jam-packed full of glitter, make that ‘hex’ glitter. There is that gotta ‘gemme’ large-shaped hexagon and then billions of micro-hexagon glitter in there. The base is clear and maybe a bit purple tinged but then, that could be my eyes tricking me too. And it seems as if the large hex glitter is a different shade but I feel that it just refracts the light differently.

Here’s what it looks like as a polish all by itself…

This is a couple of coats and I could see that a solid base color would bring out the Hellmen’s best. But being that it was glitter, I really didn’t want to start all over again. Hey, look! There’s the right hand waving ‘Me! Me!’

So, going against “somebody’s” rules, I painted my right hand a few different base colors. I picked up three polishes that I wanted to experiment on…

Oooowwwwww…stray hair, Y U not show up before photos?  On my index and middle finger I have on Confetti’s ‘Moonstruck.’ On the ring and pinky finger, I have Revlon’s ‘Perflex.’

On the thumb, this is OPI’s ‘Totally Fort-Worth It.’

My blogger pick is….

Love & Beauty’s ‘Purple’ over Revlon’s ‘Perplex.’ That’s the pinky and ring finger.

I wish my left hand nails would be as long and uniform as my right hand….except for that stupid hair. (And, I read that Ragdoll cats are low-shedding. Whoever said that needs to have a week’s worth of vacuum canister ‘waste’ dumped on their head to show them what ‘low-shed’ looks like. *scowl*)

Gotta passion for purple? What if you could get a purple glitter that has tiny hex glitter and a few larger hex shapes thrown in? I thought so. Do you have fun breaking the nail polish rules occasionally?

A Crimson Cutie- St. Valentine’s Day Manicure Marathon-Day 10

Do you have any plans to celebrate St. Valentine’s Day?  I’m scheduling the day off to goof off with hubs.  We’ve put aside quite a few Valentine’s Days because he had to either teach a night class or stay late advising students.  It was always something.  So I’m looking forward to a day together.  I hope he is too…lol!

Late, last summer there was a release of 2 new collections my MEGA Beauty.  There was, later, some controversy about the 2 owners being with another major nail company and encroaching on a non-compete issue.  I ran to CVS, who carries this brand, and both up a bunch because, when they are gone, that’s it.

This is one of my MOST favorite polish colors…

And Crimson it is!  It looks a bit orange-tinged in the photo.  However, let me reassure you, there is no orange or hint of yellow in this hot red.

Confetti’s ‘Crimson Cute’ is now my staple ‘red that looks good on me’ in my polish collection.  Do you like that oh, so hot and sexy red?  You have to get this one…

And if you wear shoes that show your toes, this one will sure to stir up some fires.  Hopefully, I am not alone in feeling that wearing certain colors of polish add to your mood, but I feel hot wearing this color.  Not that pre-menopause hot either.

This hot is ‘I’m too sexy for my shoes’ hot.  If you are wanting to add some spice to your Valentine’s Day with a smouldering red color, may I highly suggest you get over to CVS and get this one.  When Confetti polishes are gone, don’t be left with no ‘hot stuff’ to wear on your nails.

Just like red lipstick, I LOVE to wear blood red polish.  How about you?  Does it convey a scene of ‘oh yea, I’m hot!’, or, would you rather pass on a red polish?

I Couldn’t Leave Well Enough Alone, Part II

A couple of posts back, I had Part I of ‘not leaving well enough alone’.  However, I have to admit, when I did plop down a sparkly top coat here, it did make me feel I had improved on it.  Remember ‘Home Improvement‘?  Tim never could leave well enough alone either.

For me, it’s just a wickedly expensive fun hobby.

Here’s Confetti’s ‘Debutante’…

I’m going to call this a soft, gold taupe.  Very subdue and very office appropriate.  It’s shimmery but not screaming.  I used three coats to make it Solid Gold. There’s 2 coats of Seche Clear and 1 Coat of Seche Vite.  I’m sorta ‘meh’ about this color.  It’s OK, but my tastes usually are to have my fingernails SCREAM!!!

Confetti’s is a new brand, MBA Beauty, released at CVS.  Here’s the scoop on why you may want to get some of MBA Beauty’s polishes before they are GONE!

I didn’t wait…

If you see a color more than once, that means it’s gonna be in a giveaway.  One for you, one for me.

I’m brazen enough to think I can do better.  Now, I did put on my thinking cap that not only lets me think outside of the box, but also color inside the lines.  If this color is golden, why not try a silver glitter????  Hmmmmm…I DID just get a new topcoat from Revlon.  They released a few new colors recently along with accenting glitter topcoats for…well, not leaving well enough alone!  YES!!  (I have learned, with lots and lots of practice, to justify about anything I do.)  Here’s ‘Belle’ and she is a silver cutie pie.

Top photo is with the sunny window, last one is outside in sunny (read: hot) Florida.  How sad that the silver glitter and holographic larger glitter doesn’t show up on the nails in the photos.  It does a lot more in real life.

Albeit some serious wear in the top photo (that looks really ugl-le), you can see some of the reflections.  And last, a photo of the bottle.  Ahhh, see what I mean!

And, even if I couldn’t leave well enough alone, I feel I made a somewhat boring color a bit more spunky.

When you saw ‘Belle,’ did your mind start reeling as to what other polishes you could use this with?  Which ones?

Comparison with Mega’s ’10’ and ‘Confetti’ brands

Back in early June, I found a couple of new nail polish brands.  Check it out here.  And though it’s been thought that there isn’t anything new with these two brands and they are all cremes, I’m OK with that.  The prices, at $1.99 and $3.99, were right.

I haven’t taken the time, and, have the depth of polishes to do dupe postings.  But I saw an opportunity with ’10’ and ‘Confetti.’  It seemed there were some dupes within the display, so I made a purchase.  Not only did I want to compare the colors but also the formulas as well.

Here we have 10 with #449 label on top and ‘From Paris With Love’ (listed on back) and Confetti’s Crimson Cutie.  This photo, taken outside, makes them look pretty damn close in color.  Maybe the Crimson Cutie is a bit more shimmery???

Now in this photo, they really do look similar.

Here they are on my nails.  I won’t make you guess which one is which.  That gives my brain a cramp!!  The #449 is on the thumb, middle and pinky.  Crimson Cutie is on my index and ring finger.  The ring and pinky look identical, to me.

#449 could be a bit deeper.  As far as the formulas, Confetti is just a little bit thinner.  However, it wasn’t HUGELY noticeable.   As a note, I have on BC, Seche Clear, 2 coats of color, 2 coats of Clear and 1 of Seche Vite.

Here’s my ‘duh’ move; I was going to alternate the colors opposite on my right hand.  However, I watch TV when I polish, obviously entrenched in watching ‘Operation Repo!’  I polished only the middle finger with #449.

Trying to have an objective opinion, comparing them visually, was hard.  I asked Mr. Kimberly if he could tell which nails were painted differently.  Another ‘duh’ moment; Mr. Kimberly is blue/green color blind!!

Quite honestly, the photos show more of a color difference than they do in real life.  The lasting power of both was the same despite the thicker and more pliable formula of ’10.’

My recommendation would be to get the cheaper, Confetti.  The look and wearability are the same for both.  I’d only recommend the ’10’ over Confetti if you are particular about the smoothness of the polish going on.

I know that I’ll pick the Confetti brand, if there are dupes, between the two.  Not that big of a difference to make a difference.  Just the prices.  Give me your thoughts.

New Polish, New Love

Just a few days ago, I spotted an endcap at CVS FULL of two new lines of polish!  I was more giddy than a teen on her first date.

One of the first picks was of this beauty…

This is Confetti’s Moonstruck.  I wasn’t all into the color until after I finished the manicure.

What an interesting color.  It’s a medium gray but it has purple too.  So here’s my attempt at deciphering the color: a dusty, deep lavender gray.

This photo outdoors captures the color quite honestly.

There’s nothing outstanding about the application.  First coat was almost opaque, the second did the deed.  I have on BS, 2 coats of Moonstruck, 2 coats of Seche Clear and finishing with Seche Vite.

Work has been very heavy this month.  Not complaining!  Just sported this mani longer than 4 days.  And the wear was minimal.  That’s the very best thing about this kiddo.  It dried ok, it applied ok and it removed off ok.  With that, I’d say it performed pretty darn good for a buck ninety-nine polish.

A nice sunny day to show off a cool color and dry cuticles.  I’m working on the cuticles with lots of Lemony Flutter and Haken Cuticle Oil.  The photo isn’t showing the great shine that this one has but, my thumb does a fairly good job of it.  You can see just a bit of tip wear.  I don’t usually wrap my polish though.

The sunny window does a better job of showing the shiny gloss of this creme.  Or, is it ‘cream.’  No, it’s ‘creme.’  I’ll call it a winner.

What do you think of this color?  Be honest; I don’t have stock in the polish. 😉 I sure didn’t think it was my cup of tea but, I picked it because blogging about nail polish moves me away from my typical pinks and reds.

Are there enough photos to make the review optimal?  I’m still a newbie (and how long will it take til I’m not a newbie anymore?) so I’m just using my own interpretation of great makeup blogs I follow.  I like the ones with lots of photos.  Constructive criticism is always appreciated. 🙂

Oh…yea…P.S. I will be announcing a giveaway soon! I’m excited about it too!!!! 😀

My Quivery CVS New Brand of Polish Haul

Yes, I’m still beside myself with this new brand.  I went out in the evening light to see if I could capture some photos to share. Get ready, this is photo heavy.

Gosh, I need an outside table and not the hood of my husband’s car! But I was disparate to share.  hee hee!
All here are ‘Confetti’ with the exception of the second from the left.  That is the ’10 Professional.’
Moonstruck; Casablanca; Dreamdate; Dressed to the 9’s; Debutante

There are some possible dupes between these two collections.  They are both made by MEGA Beauty Inc.  So I got this color from each collection to swatch and see if there is any color, wear or texture differences.
Here we have From Paris With Love; Crimson Cutie.
Now on to showcasing them each on their own…

Oops, this fun blue, Party Palace Blue, didn’t make it to the first shot call. And then there is a Confetti ‘My Favorite Martian,’ a super shimmery green that I forgot was on my desk, and didn’t even take outside for its photo op!

Well,  I loaded all the single photos first and thought I’d be able to go through each and name them and give a general idea on the color.  Rats! That didn’t work out.  I did put the photos in the same order as the line up and, as I listed their names.  Luckily, they are photographing very close to their color.  Exceptions, but only slightly, are: Debutante, it’s more shimmery than the photo; Dressed To The 9’s, it’s darker and more brown.  I’ll photo these again in high sunlight tomorrow.  And I’ll remember the fun green one.

You KNOW I’m going to use one of these first thing!  Which one should I choose? I wish I knew how to do a poll because that would be fun. I will be revamping the layout of the blog now that I have found someone to help me out.  That’s ANOTHER thing to be looking forward to!

Off to ‘Snoopy Dance!’
