Whimsical Kool-Aid Manicure

Who doesn’t want glitter nail polish??? I’m giving away two prizes for the stuff! Enter here.

Revlon’s ‘Whimsical’ polish is the newest polish to cause a ruckus…

It’s funky-looking to me. But, in a cool way. ‘Whimsical’ has this milky-blue base with a scattering of pink and teal colored hex glitter. There’s teal regular glitter in there too. What a unique soup of polish. Well, I understand that it is a ‘dupe’ of another high-end polish. However, this is a mixture that is totally new to me.

Since I find ‘Whimsical’ to be on the thin side, I wanted to pair it up with a base color that would show it off. I picked a favorite polish of mine, Cult Nail’s ‘My Kind of Cool Aid’. ‘Whimsical’ muted down the gray/lavender of ‘MKOCA’ just a bit, but I don’t think it took away any of the charisma of either polish.

I used 2 coats of ‘MKOCA’ and two coats of ‘Whimsical.’ Darn sparse glitter!!! Y U No come off on nail!!!

I first tested ‘Whimsical’ out on an old OPI mini to see if I could make my nail line disappear. It worked, but I wanted something with a bit more character. That’s why I went to ‘My Kind of Cool Aid’.

Even with the unevenness of my nail length, I still got a compliment on them. And that was at Walmart, of all places! That young lady was paying attention. 🙂

Have you been able to find ‘Whimsical’?

Where’s the Party? On Your Nails And Everybody’s Coming!

Have you just about had enough of the ‘Happy Birthday’ glitter polishes??!! Practically no brand has skipped this polish band wagon.

If you read enough nail blogs, you have, by now, read about Debra Lippman‘s ‘Happy Birthday’ nail polish. If not, and since I do not currently own this polish, here’s Vampy Varnish‘s swatches of it. ‘Happy Birthday’ as been around at least a couple of years. Yet it is still popular.

Check out some of the dupes I have…

First, there is Icing’s ‘Birthday Beyotch’, Milani’s ‘Gems’, Ulta’s ‘Pinata-Yada-Yada’, and Wet ‘n Wild’s ‘Correction Tape’.

None of them are dupes, but they are all in the same neighborhood.

Icing’s ‘Birthday Beyotch’ wins in the best name category. Hee hee. I spy red, gold, green, teal and fuchsia; some larger, some smaller. Then it is all swimming in a vat with teal micro-glitter.

Here’s Milani’s ‘Gems’. This one has two sizes of hex glitter in it. And then that is all in a very translucent teal base that shares even more micro-glitter. Tons of red, silver, gold, green, and blue glitter. I found this one to apply the most glitter.

This is Ulta’s ‘Pinata-Yada-Yada.’ Worst name here. :/ Gold and fuchsia hex glitter is surrounded by two smaller sized glitters in gold, teal, and red. The base is a slightly blue tinged color.

And this is Wet ‘n Wild’s ‘Correction Tape.’ I’m still scratching my head over that name. If you ‘get it’, would you leave me a comment? All the glitter seems to be the same size in gold, teal and fuchsia. Without getting out my microscope, I think there is some gold hex and fuchsia squares in this one. Not as rainbow colored at the others, it gives the feeling of Mardi Gras.

Are ‘Party Hands’ the same thing as ‘Jazz Hands’?

On my thumb and middle finger, I swatches ‘Birthday Beyotch’. On my index finger is ‘Gems’. On my ring finger is ‘Pinata-Yada-Yada’ and that leaves ‘Correction Tape’ on my pinky. This photo shows 3 coats.

Here’s where I started and this is 2 coats. So, you can do a little glitter or gobs. However, the polish you can pick to apply under these is all up for grabs. These are naked here, though.

Now, once you are ready to remove the glitters, you might want to read up on the foil removal method; no one wants to leave the party on your nails!

Confetti nails, I say. When I lived in Kansas City, KS, there was a dance bar on the Missouri side called ‘Confetti’s’. The next morning I always found confetti in my clothes that I had worn and even on the floor where I had changed into my jammies. It was everywhere! And you’ll experience the same thing when you go to remove any of these glitters.

Great polishes for New Year’s Eve parties? Which one do you like the best? Can you think of any other polishes that live in this neighborhood?

Purple Hex Glitter Troubles

When I was a kid, I used to get into trouble (sort of) because I didn’t like to follow directions. More realistically, I wanted to play outside the box. So it’s no surprise when I show these types of swatches.

First, I try on Forever 21’s Love & Beauty ‘Purple’ all by itself. Let me show you how awesome this glitter is…

Hex-y-topia glitter in there!!

Jam-packed full of glitter, make that ‘hex’ glitter. There is that gotta ‘gemme’ large-shaped hexagon and then billions of micro-hexagon glitter in there. The base is clear and maybe a bit purple tinged but then, that could be my eyes tricking me too. And it seems as if the large hex glitter is a different shade but I feel that it just refracts the light differently.

Here’s what it looks like as a polish all by itself…

This is a couple of coats and I could see that a solid base color would bring out the Hellmen’s best. But being that it was glitter, I really didn’t want to start all over again. Hey, look! There’s the right hand waving ‘Me! Me!’

So, going against “somebody’s” rules, I painted my right hand a few different base colors. I picked up three polishes that I wanted to experiment on…

Oooowwwwww…stray hair, Y U not show up before photos?  On my index and middle finger I have on Confetti’s ‘Moonstruck.’ On the ring and pinky finger, I have Revlon’s ‘Perflex.’

On the thumb, this is OPI’s ‘Totally Fort-Worth It.’

My blogger pick is….

Love & Beauty’s ‘Purple’ over Revlon’s ‘Perplex.’ That’s the pinky and ring finger.

I wish my left hand nails would be as long and uniform as my right hand….except for that stupid hair. (And, I read that Ragdoll cats are low-shedding. Whoever said that needs to have a week’s worth of vacuum canister ‘waste’ dumped on their head to show them what ‘low-shed’ looks like. *scowl*)

Gotta passion for purple? What if you could get a purple glitter that has tiny hex glitter and a few larger hex shapes thrown in? I thought so. Do you have fun breaking the nail polish rules occasionally?

Blinded By the Light; Glitter A-Bomb

The elusive Wet ‘n Wild ‘Black Magic’ polish DOES exist!!!

Don’t bother going to this Walgreens; I took all three of those ‘Black Magic’ polishes. Can you see my reflection in the back of the display? That’s creepy.

Here’s what the clammer has been about…

Black glittery good stuff! I’m doing a mani right now and I am using ‘Black Magic’ as an accent nail. I’ll have this one up in a couple of days.
If you haven’t heard about the mystery of the Wet ‘n Wild’s 2 different ‘Black Magic’ polishes, I wrote about it here.  The multi-display, that has other makeup products, shown at the top, has the sparkly ‘Black Magic.’ The displays that I have seen at Ulta’s, has the black creme. Technically, I think the one I got above should be named ‘MORE Black Magic.’

This is what I got when I stepped into Icing today…

The charmed look of this brings out the magpie in me. Oh, it was 50%; $4.25.

And the polishes are always buy one, get one 1/2 off (BUT, I did ask today and was told that does NOT apply to the crackle. I didn’t see a sign that said that though…just sayin’). I found one and I had a hard time picking that second one…

All this sparkle can give you a migraine. You best sit in the dark after this post. No joke!

Icing’s ‘Glitteratti’ has a rainbow of micro-glitter and the hard-to-miss fuchsia hex glitter. And then, ‘Gimme Some Glitter’ has a murky burgundy base (which looks like black when swatched on white paper) with gold, teal, fuchsia and purple glitter. It’s very busy, but in a GOOD way!

It was a busy day at work for me, but I managed to get that shopping in! *wink* I got some more loot at the Dollar Store to show you later.

What base colors do you think ‘Glitteraffi’ and ‘Gimme Some Glitter’ should go over? If you find the sparkly ‘Black Magic,’ are you getting it?

Blue On Blue, Heartache on Heartache

Monday’s aren’t blue for me.

Since I’m able to create my own schedule, I don’t have any dreaded days. Wouldn’t it be nice if everyone could have the schedule that works for them? I think there would be a lot more happy employees. I have deadlines, yes. However, they usually are not stressful. And, I know it’s a luxury many folks don’t get.

However, I did have a Blue Monday…

This love & beauty polish, from Forver 21, is named ‘Blue/Multi.’ I’m just going to leave it at that because I have managed to keep myself out of court for a long time (don’t ask). So, I don’t want to get into any trouble renaming a company’s polish. What if it is trademarked and can only be spoken aloud by professional nail techs?? Eek!

Well, I am through…

So, for right now, I’m just gonna let that slide…

Just depending on which way the light hits it, this is a duochrome of blue or teal or pink.’Blue/Multi’ didn’t want to shine so much so I have a top coat of Sally Hansen’s Teflon Tuff.

I tried all different angles and light settings to give you an idea about this color. My nails actually do look like that color shown in the first photo of the bottle.

Now, I did these nails yesterday and I’ve been oiling them up and rubbing in cuticle cream, etc. Then, all day today, I was rubbing in Neutrogena’s Swiss Formula. I mean a LOT! I had a lot of driving to do today so I kept putting it on and putting it on while I was cruisin’ down the highway.

On the way home, I had been thinking about which glittery/shimmery polishes did I have to swatch over ‘Blue/Multi’. Since I landed on two different ones, I used one as an accent nail.

Two yummy Kleancolor polishes. The very chunky, hex glitter is ‘Starry Blue’ and the micro-glitter is ‘Sparkle Emerald.’ That must be a BLUE emerald, at that! Gorgeous, aren’t they?!!

Here’s the thing; I tested these on my right hand, and wouldn’t you know, it looks better there! First, I’ll mention that with all the glitters, I only did one layer. Here, I’ll show you…

There, I just took this photo whilst typing away on this post. I really wanted to show you I meant business!!

The mood must have been set today. I listened to the 60’s station for the 1-1/2 hours to get to the coast and then all the way back. I got to hear Bobby Vinton’s ‘Blue On Blue.’ That was a #1 hit in 1963. Yea, that is an OLDIE.

That hex glitter is something, isn’t it? And you can’t dismiss ‘Sparkle Emerald’ even if it is blue instead of green. But, it is all Blue On Blue.

Today’s Southern Orlando Haul

I woke up today feeling pretty yucky. I had a ‘recovery day’ scheduled from running, so I pushed myself into that. I had a feeling of a fever but I did my ‘pretend’ jump rope workout anyway. (I jump rope but don’t have a real rope to use; just go through the movements with my arms.) I had a work project scheduled early this morning, it was already 80 degrees before 10 AM, but I went and did it anyway. I wanted to come home and be inside where it is cool. However,  I went to Ulta (it really is on the way home) and made sure I used my $9 in points and my $3.50 off $10 coupon today.

Even then, I went to a large mall do finish up more work so I wouldn’t have to do it tomorrow. But I stopped in Forever 21 anyway and found some polish.

Semi-soothing, here are the goods…

Sparkle babies. From left on: Currant, Silver and Coral.

But you have to check them out up close to get a good looky…

Currant. I merlot shade with red and gold glitter.

Silver. It is a much lighter shade of silver IRL, with iridescent micro-glitter.

Coral. A pinkish coral shade with red and fuchsia micro-glitter. This one might be a jelly. I’m not sure yet.

Early July 4th sparklers! From the left on: Purple/Silver, Green/Clear and Red/Black/Silver. Oh, those names got me excited!!! *rolls eyes, one way then back the other*

Silver/Purple. The base is clear with chunks of silver and a red-purple hexagon glitter.

Green/Clear. A clear base with chunky leaf green and silver hexagon glitter.

Red/Black/Silver. Again, a clear base with chunks of very red, black and silver hexagon glitter.

Any one of these three hexy glitters could make some interesting nail ‘sammich’ manicures.  I’m ready to experiment!

I did stop by CVS in the mall to check to see if I could find anything new. I found the new Limited Edition NYC polishes…

The coupons at the front expired on 6/1/11. Not nice. But one polish did come home with me (where at least 2 unexpired NYC coupons are)…

This is ‘Gramercy Glitz.’ It’s a pink, almost totally clear, base with tons of baby girl pink and iridescent micro-glitter. Not exactly a new shade but the kind I tend to gravitate to.

I’m a chick from the Midwest, I had to look this one up: Gramercy Park (/ˌgræmᵊrsi ˈpɑːrk/) is a small, fenced-in private park in the borough of Manhattan in New York City, United States.

It looks lovely. I’d like to visit it. Some day. When I go to New York. Where my hubs is from. NYC, where he got his Masters. Yea…some day.

See any shades that tickle your fancy?
