Hypnotizing Skittles

Almost everyone likes Skittles. Even if they don’t, they do know what they are.

In nail blog land, skittles means putting different color polishes on each of your nails. It also can mean using the same polish as an overlay and different base coats or, vice versa.

This time, I’m going to show you different base coats to showcase Cult Nail’s ‘Hypnotize Me’ as an overlay.

‘Hypnotize Me’ is a jelly polish with a light, translucent green base. Then it is loaded up with a ton of green and turquoise glitter.

Here’s the line up of the base polishes I tried out with ‘Hypnotize Me’…

First, is ‘Hypnotize Me’; Sally Hansen’s Nailgrowth Miracle ‘Gentle Blossom’; Sally Hansen’s Xtreme Wear ‘Black Out’; Cosmetic Arts no name Baby Blue; and last, Artmatic’s #37 white creme.

Here is a closer look at each of these…

This is ‘Hypnotize Me’ alone on my thumb. This is 2 coats, no top coat.

And, here are the skittles…

From top to bottom: Cosmetic Art’s ‘Baby Blue’; Artmatic #037; SH’s ‘Black Out’; and SH’s ‘Gentle Blossom.’ Each base is 2 coats and 2 coats following with ‘Hypnotize Me.’ Looking at these, I bet you thought I’d go with the ‘Black Out.’

Well, I was until I looked at this shade and changed my mind…

This is ‘Vintage Velvet’ from Finger Paint’s new Fall collection.

Pretty wicked together. Reminds me of the ocean. I have 2 coats of ‘Vintage Velvet’ and 2 coats of ‘Hypnotize Me.’ I don’t have on any top coat. ‘Hypnotize Me’ is shiny enough without one.

Cult Nails can be purchased from their website. Finger Paints are found at Sally’s. It might seem odd, but I enjoyed wearing my skittles for the day.

I like the grape flavored Skittles. Which one do you like? How are you going to wear your ‘Hypnotize Me’?

Giveaway: CLOSED Pumpkin Spice and Everything Nice

UPDATE: HI YA!  THIS GIVEAWAY IS CLOSED AND THE WINNERS WILL BE ANNOUNCED AFTER I TALLY UP THE VALID ENTRIES!!!  THANKS EVERYONE!!!

Stay tuned…at the end of this message, we will show you how you can get this look, yourself!

Just a little while back, I purchased, at Walgreens, this polish from the new display by Sally Hansen. I photographed ‘Pumpkin Spice’ while in the store. I just couldn’t get past the thought of buying Halloween stuff when the back to school stuff is still out. Hell, most schools haven’t started back.

Then I saw some ‘Pumpkin Spice’ swatches and I was terribly smittened.

This looks like embers smoldering in a campfire. And to achieve this total look, I used Sally Hansen’s Xtreme Wear ‘Black Out.’ “Pumpkin Spice’ can’t truly stand alone and get this hot look.

I can’t say that this is ‘just in time for Halloween’, however, I will say that this will, more than likely, NOT be around for Halloween. I could be wrong but I wouldn’t chance it.

And I have had more than just a couple of Tweet friends say that ‘Pumpkin Spice’ is hard to find. Well, that won’t do! So…I’m having a giveaway. And not just one set of ‘Pumpkin Spice’ and ‘Black Out’, but two prizes of this set. Wheeeeee!
I’m strict with my rules. So, please read carefully. There will be TWO winners. Each will get one set of ‘Pumpkin Spice’ and ‘Black Out’. Here’s what ya gotta do to enter:

Don’t Wait! Get Your Halloween Stuff NOW!

Amongst my travels today, I stopped at 2 CVS stores and 3 Walgreens. I didn’t find any of the Wet ‘n Wild products I have been longing for. But, I did find some other stuff. Also, I got some goodies at Bath and Body Works.

I saw this Sally Hansen display at Walgreens about 2 or so weeks ago…

And, I purchased ‘Teal-y Cool’…

I swatched that baby right out in the parking lot before I even got into my car…

This is over a blue from Color Club’s Poptsatic collection. (Damn, no names on the bottle!)

If you look at the display, there is a dark polish in the middle, next to a blue. That is ‘Pumpkin Spice.’  I photographed it but, didn’t buy it. I really figured I had something like that already. And, I was trying not to purchase every polish color that strikes my fancy.

That is until Scrangie swatched it on her blog. I haven’t swatched this one yet, so please, click on her name/link to jump over there and be in awe.

Ohhhhhh, Halloween, why do you have to be so far away! And, by the way, Happy Lammas: celebrating the first harvest of the year, August 1.

Next, I snooped the $1 bins at Walgreens. When you were a kid, did you like to put your quarter into the candy/cheap toy machine and get a luck of the draw jawbreaker or a rub-on tattoo? Well, I get that same feeling looking through the $1bins at Walgreens.

Here’s what I got for one buck…

Constant readers will know that I am a merchandiser. I get to make things look pretty in stores so you will empty your wallets be enticed to purchase. So, I get to go to malls every week. Yea, this job sucks….NOT!

I got a few of the little Fall candle samplers at Bath and Body Works last week. I loved them soooo much that I got 6 more to share with my blogger girlfriends when we had lunch. I noticed the second time I went back, they had even more fragrances. So, today I wanted to pick up some more.

Now I have a total of 6 different minis to tide me over until I get the biggies! But, what did I Spy at the counter when checking out…

Yes!!! SIX different body lotions!!! The store had just put out the first 6 as samples when I yelled politely asked when they would be available. The sales associate said they had boxes of them right there, just delivered. Yippeee!

Are these little Halloween themed-bottles so stinkin’ cute!!!!…

I am so glad to see all these Halloween-themed items coming out so early. This way all the Christmas stuff will be available in October. (sarcasm)

Do you have any of these items or, are they on your wish list?

Sock It To Me, Supernova

I’m not holding back…

I love this polish. In 1979, I had a black, sheer blouse that had rainbow threads running through it. I wore it over an off-white tube top. Go ahead, laugh. But I was rad.

The minute I laid eyes on this LA Girls Rock Star, I knew it was mine. It’s called ‘Supernova’ and it is so swoon-worthy. In a black sheer base, there is a ton of holo bar glitter.

Knowing it was sheer, I invited ‘Supernova’ to be a coverup for some hot polishes. I chose these…

LA Star’s ‘Supernova’; Color Club’s light pink creme that came in the French Affairs collection; Sally Hansen’s ‘Black Out’; Sonia Kashut’s ‘Starry Night’; Cosmetic Art’s No Name Bright Blue.

I did it ‘skittles’ style…

On my thumb, you see ‘Supernova’ all by itself. Index is over Color Club’s Light Pink French. Middle is Sally Hansen’s ‘Black Out’. On the ring finger is Sonia Kashut’s ‘Starry Night’. And rounding out the skittles is Cosmetic Art’s Bright Blue.

There is one topcoat of China Glaze’s ‘Fast Forward Top Coat’.

Each beauty in her own photo…

‘Supernova’ alone.

Over Color Club’s Light French Pink (no label on bottle).

Sally Hansen’s ‘Black Out’. (So far my favorite all black creme.)

Over Sonia Kashut’s ‘Starry Night. (Got this one on clearance at Target. Can you see the tiny silver glitter?)

Cosmetic Art’s Bright Blue. (No names given on these either. I have 2 coats but as you can tell, it’s showing sheer.)

I like them all, except for when ‘Supernova’ stands alone. That sheer black base makes the nail look dirty. But it shines over other polishes. Let’s just keep ‘Supernova’ over to the handy side for later use.

Which one do you like the best? Or, do you have a shade you would put ‘Supernova’ over?

What Does Good King Wencelas Drink?

As long as it is the Holiday Season, let’s just max it out!  I made this one with the name ‘Good King Wencelas Blacks Out.’  Here’s why…

I started off with a couple of coats of Sally Hansen’s Xtreme Wear in ‘Black Out.’  This is my core, solid black polish I keep on hand (literally!).

Then, I used the new Holiday polish from Finger Paints, ‘Sparkle Top Coat.’  I can’t believe I just had to look on the bottle to remember the name.  Like, it’s so memorable and all. *eye roll*

It would have been very easy to miss this polish at Sally’s.  The ones that I have visited have it buried amongst all the other impulse purchases at the cash wrap.

Looks like snow with the sun dancing off of it.  Reminds me of Good King Wenceslas.  (Rendition by Loreena McKennitt, one of my favorite musical artists.)

I think a clever person would have named this polish ‘Good King Wenceslas.’  Top Coat is so, so…so generic.  But the polish is not.  It’s sparkly!!!  Micro iridescent glitter suspended perfectly in the clear base just like a Cirque du Soleil performer.  (Warning: don’t click on the previous link if you do not like hunky, six-pack abs men in very tight tights.  Just sayin’…)

So, ‘King Wenceslas’ lays one on for a ‘Black Out.’  But no one pitches a fit because it ends up looking so ritzy.

You can just barely see the iridescent flickers.

Ahhhh, very sparkly!  And these are being hidden away because 1) I don’t wear flip flops and 2) it’s actually cool here in Orlando.  I’m going to get my 5 days of boot wearing time!

What do you think Good King Wenceslas drinks?  My guess is Wassail
