Lumene: Dry Skin Comfort Radiance Cocktail

Lumene is a skincare brand that I don’t read much about. However, there needs to be more talk about this awesome company, in my opinion! I have used a couple of their products and have loved them. Today’s post is on their Vitamin C+ Dry Skin Comfort Radiance Cocktail…

lumene cocktail

First, I want to say that you can find Lumene at Walgreens and, that’s where I make my purchases. I paid about $15 for this product. You can also find it online and CVS.

I was drawn to this serum because I am working hard on keeping my skin moist. Once Fall became cold, the skin directly under my eyes and the tops of my cheeks become so dry that the skin feels very taunt. After reading the package, I thought I’d give it a go and see how it works for me.

I’m happy to say that Dry Skin Comfort Radiance Cocktail is a godsend for my dry skin. After washing my face at night, I used this serum next. While, my skin didn’t totally drink it in immediately, it kept my skin soft and I didn’t feel any uncomfortable, tight skin afterwards. I actually liked that the Cocktail was slow to absorb yet, it didn’t leave my skin feeling slick or greasy. Just refreshingly soft.

Lumene uses plants that grow in the arctic region due to their hardiness. This Radiance Cocktail has cranberry and cloudberry seed oil in it that is known for soothing extremely dry skin. The added Vitamin C+ helps turn over the skin cell replication to keep your complexion bright. You can use this on your driest spots but for me, I used it all over my face and neck.

There is only a slight fragrance to this serum that seems crisp like a citrus note. But, it doesn’t linger for but a couple of seconds once you have it on your skin. This is a thick serum that you do need to shake up in the bottle to mix before you dispense. And, it only took about three drops for me to cover my face and neck.

So, do I like Lumene’s Vitamin C+ Dry Skin Comfort Radiance Cocktail?…

Here’s my latest bottle and it’s all gone. I recommend this product to those that have normal to dry skin and those that know that their face can tolerate Vitamin C serums.

Have you tried any Lumene products?

Toss or Trash: November 2014 Part II

I’m clearing out and making room and, I love it! I’m finishing up lots and lots of products. These nail polish remover pads from L.A. Colors were awesome!…

DSCF0043 DSCF0044

Even though it states that they are strawberry scented, these still smell like nail polish remover. But, if they are not the hardest working polish remover pads, I don’t know what is! I actually had to use about two to three per removal only because they are rather small but, this formula didn’t dry my cuticles out one bit. I’ll pick up more when I can find them.

With no doubt, my hair has gone through a huge change since leaving Florida and moving to Colorado. I’ve been trying lots of different moisturizing products in my quest for soft tresses….

DSCF0002 DSCF0003 DSCF0004

I was lured into thinking Tresemme’s Liquid Gold Shine Therapy would make my hair shimmery-golden. Not really. And, it didn’t give me any moisture either. The only thing it did do was keep my hair from becoming overly frizzy. However, Bath and Body Works White Citrus Shower Gel is still one of my favorite BBW fragrance. And, their washes never dry out my skin. That one I’ll replace.

I was giving this Avon lipstick sample with my last order of Moisture Effect Eye Makeup Remover (one of my very favorite eye makeup removers and I highly recommend). Take a look at what the sample looks like after just ONE try…

DSCF0018 DSCF0020 DSCF0019

The product is so soft that it just mushed up! Trust me, I’m not a Messy Marvin with my makeup but this was ridiculous.  I think the name is ‘Pink Flush’ but I don’t know which line it is from. As much as I love the color, this lippie not only had a problem staying in the tube, it roamed around my lips as well! Too messy so, I threw it away.

Earlier this summer, I got this free sample of Urban Decay’s Vitamin Infusion Complexion Prep Spray. Sadly, I just didn’t find that this spray added anything to my skin. My pores didn’t seem to be minimized nor did my makeup become less shiny throughout the day…

DSCF0049

My makeup didn’t seem to, noticeably, last longer, either. If you have used this, I’d love to know what your experience has been.

I’m really on a roll using up products. I’m looking for bottles and tubes that are almost used up and grabbing them to finish eyeing a spot for them in the Toss or Trash feature. In my quest to find such items, I discovered a bottle of Kiehl’s Powerful-Strength LIne-Reducing Concentrate I had. I have just finished up my last bottle and knew I trip to Kiehl’s was in order. However, finding this backup bottle saved me almost $60 that I didn’t need to spend! Plus, I found a couple of bottle of Suave body lotion that I caught on sale earlier this year so I didn’t need to replace any of those.

What was the last beauty product you used up?

My Winter Pajama Flannels Inspired My Manicure!

I know I can’t be the only one this has happened to. I picked a polish color, along with a glitter top coat and, it matched my jammies!!! Please tell me this has happened to you…

DSCF0006

This is what I came up with using Cult Nails’ ‘Kiss My Rose Bud’ with Pure Ice’s ‘Santa Merry Me’.

DSCF0001

‘Santa Merry Me’ is one of Pure Ice’s newest Winter glitters and it’s pretty! ‘Kiss My Rose Bud’ is a matte pink that set the perfect background for this pairing…

DSCF0004

So, when I cozied up in my flannel jammie pants (and, a fuzzy top, of course) and did my nails…

DSCF0007

I guess I was subliminally inspired to create this pink Wintertime manicure…

DSCF0005

I have done a manicure, more than once, only to discover that it matches something I’m already wearing and I wasn’t even trying to do a match. Please tell me that you’ve done this too so I don’t feel totally weirded out!

News From The Vanity

Hi! No reviews today. However, I do want to share some interesting, cute and worrisome things that have happened around the Pink Vanity this week.

Let’s get the worrisome right out of the way. I reviewed the Holiday 2014 Wet N Wild Fergie Beauty University Palette here. You can read my review but, in a nutshell…I didn’t like it at all. So, I did something that I have rarely done; I took it back to Walgreens to get my money back. I knew I wouldn’t use it. That was about a week ago. I was in Walgreens a couple of days ago and, I saw that on the display I got the palette from, there were two palettes. Each display comes with only two palettes to begin with. I had a feeling…

20141106_151121

I checked both boxes and this one, above, had the seal on the box broken. I didn’t take it any further than that. I’m just thinking that the palette I returned got put back on the display! I saw some of the same factory assembly scuff marks on the box like the one I had purchased.

I live in Denver and we have been breaking 100-year-old cold temperature records. Luckily, the weekend before, I got out all of my winter clothes. I found a scarf that had this tag on it…

Lead scarf

Since the scarf was made in China, I get it. However, it seems odd that a scarf would have LEAD in it to begin with!!!

It has been about 16 months that I have been in my condo and am now just getting motivated to put my prints and paintings on the wall. This print is from a fairy calendar I had years ago. I liked it so much that I got it framed. If I remember correctly, it’s called ‘The Fairy Wedding’…

20141109_122202

As I mentioned before, it’s really cold here. Look at these two cats on my couch…

snug as a bug catsThat’s Libby (yes, this is HER blog!) and her real brother, Sebastian. They do not like this cold weather whatsoever! As a side note, the quilt to the left is a handmade one from my dear Aunt LaVer. She gave that to me as a Christmas gift in 1979!! That quilt is still used today, as you see, and has held up like IRON…or should I say polyester!!! I love it!!!

Tell me, how your week has been going?

Amazing Grunge: Sally Girl Polish Pairs Up With Cult Nails

OK, I’ll admit this is more of a Halloween look than a Thanksgiving look. However, my goal was a Fall look. And, I’m quite OK with the turnout of this manicure. It was fun to pair up these two…

IMG_1871

Cult Nails polishes are my ‘go to’ polishes to find a base color for glitters. I know Cult Nails polishes are practically hassle-free for me. Like purchasing Profusion and L.A. Colors palettes, Sally Girl polishes are a low-investment to try something new…

IMG_1873 IMG_1875 IMG_1874

The mixture of lime, black and blue bar glitter intrigued me. I am in the ‘love bar glitter’ camp. There are many polish lovers that don’t care for it at all. As for me, I think I like ALL polish glitter!!!

Cult Nails’ Grunge is anything but grungy, in my opinion…

IMG_1872

Both, Cult Nails and Sally Girl performed awesomely…

Grunge Amazing manicure

It almost reminds me of a tweed-like pattern. What can I say…I’m a sweater girl!

I know you love Cult Nails! Do you like the affordability and fun-factor of Sally Girl polishes? I catch Cult Nails sales when they are on pre-order so, I get them for around $8-9 a bottle. I have a Sally’s card and, I got Amazing for about 88 cents.

Halloween Manicure: China Glaze & Cult Nails

My nails haven’t had the limelight at the Vanity lately. I have been wearing polish and enjoying a lot of the Halloween polishes I purchased lately, though. This one seems to not only be my favorite but also the one where my cuticles look their best…

DSCF0009

The base color is Nevermore by Cult Nails. This one-coat black is a staple for me. I love it! The glitter polish is China Glaze’s Rest In Pieces. More than just a glitter polish with orange bar glitter, this one also has orange hex glitter and smaller green iridescent micro and bar glitter. I like that it gives the polish more dimension than with just the orange bar glitter alone.

DSCF0003 DSCF0002

I have been using Nailtiques Formula 2 as my base coat and have been for over three months. The goal is to strengthen my nails without drying them out. It seems to have helped but, I also have been putting on some sort of cuticle oil, body oil or hand lotion on at least once an hour to get moisture into my nails and cuticles.

After the Nailtiques, it was one coat of Nevermore and one coat of Rest In Pieces. I topped it off with Seche Vite Top Coat and have been enjoying my spooky nails since.

DSCF0006

Have you had as much fun as I have checking out all the blogs showing their Halloween nail art and makeup looks?  There are some very creative and fun looks this year.

Halloween Pumpkin Skull Nail Polishes Found At Rite Aid

When Halloween rolls around, I get excited for all the new nail polishes. I was super excited to see SKULL GLITTER!!! And, not just black and/or white but other colors!

DSCF0025

These pumpkin polishes are adorable! I got these three at Rite Aid for $3 each. Even though they are pretty to look at, they are a pistol to get that glitter out and on the nails.

DSCF0028

DSCF0027

DSCF0026

I will be OK with just two or three pieces on a nail. I used Cult Nails as color base coats on these. I used ‘Nevermore’ and “Let’s Get Dirty’…

The skulls I like are the cutesy kind, not the biker kind, so these are right on the nail for me! Ha!!!

Do you like Halloween polishes? How about skulls?

Reviva Labs: High Potency Elastin Serum

I have been testing a product that I simply love and have, actually, gone past my regular 3 to 4 weeks of trying it out. This is because I’m hooked!

Here’s what I have been using: Reviva’s Elastin Serum…
DSCF0349

As we age, we lose that elastic ‘snap’ to our skin. I first started noticing it on the back of my hands. But, trust me, it is happening alllll over your body. Fortunately, Reviva Labs has created a serum that helps keep that bounce and firmness in tact. In fact, they were the first cosmetic company to introduce ‘elastin’ to the US market…
DSCF0350

High Potency Elastin Serum is used on those places on the face that show the first signs of aging: the outside corners of the eyes, the corners of the lips and, right under the eye area. However, I have been using Elastin Serum all over my face, as well as down my neck area too.

Just as the name implies, this is a serum and my skin drank it up readily. I can’t say that I would use this serum alone, as it made my skin feel tight (yea, it worked that fast!), however, I noticed a difference within a week of starting this serum. The product has the feel of a thin gel…
DSCF0353

But, you can see that once I rub it in, it has soaked right in and has gone to work restoring my skin to a youthful plumpness that I do want!…
DSCF0354

As with all Reviva products, this one is not testing on animals and is vegan-friendly. The pump bottle made dispensing the serum uber easy. I used the serum right after I had washed my face and used a toner. Once I put on Elastin Serum, I allowed it to soak in while I brushed my teeth. After that, I put on my nighttime eye cream and skin cream and that was it. After one week, I thought my fine lines around the outer corners of my eyes where softening. By day 10, I knew for sure they were plumped up to the point I was squinting really hard to even make those lines appear!DSCF0352

I find my Reviva Labs products at Ulta and at Kroger’s owned King Sooper grocery stores. You can also purchase their products from their website: www.revivalabs.com

It’s studied that after the age of 25, the everyday environment starts taking its toll on our face and we start to lose the elastin in our skin, which gives it elasticity. I suggest you start being proactive right now, whether you are 25 or more than that, and feed your skin Reviva Labs High Potency Elastin Serum. Your skin will find it yummy and you’ll reap the benefits of youthful skin for decades to come. This

It’s also recommended for the back of your hands too. I’m using it there, as well. Have you tried High Potency Elastin Serum yet?

Nature’s Gate: 40th Anniversary Herbal Body Wash

I know I’m not the only one that works hard at keeping her skin in tip-top shape. Sure, I want it clean but, I also want it to be healthy too. My skin is my armor, if you will, to keeping all the environmental hazards at bay. I don’t want my body soap stripping down my barriers either. Dry, itchy skin is not fun. I found a bath soap that keeps me healthy in more ways than one.

Nature’s Gate Herbal Body Wash is one of the most simple body washes around. I have used their body wash, lotions, deodorants and oral care items many times before because they are a known and trusted brand. Here’s a body wash I received in my Bulu box a few months ago…

DSCF0104

I know they have been quite a staple in the holistic bath section of stores for some time and they now celebrate it with a 40th anniversary herbal bath wash.

Just what I have come to expect from Nature’s Gate; lots of goodness…

DSCF0105

Number one: they are cruelty-free. They always have been! They leave out the sulfates and parabens that can wreck your skin’s acid mantle and put in all the body-friendly oils and herbs. You bet this smells divine!! I had no problems washing my face with this when I showered. This pump bottle is 16 ounces and it lasted me for months. I loved how clean and refreshed this herbal wash left my skin. I can easily recommend this wash to practically anyone.

DSCF0106

I don’t mind that Nature’s Gate wash has lots of ingredients. Just look! These are all healthy and vegan ingredients. And, this is made in the USA.

DSCF0107

When you purchase from Nature’s Gate, you help the environment as well. The company works diligently on keeping our drinkable water supply clean. I learned from their website that if you put all of the Earth’s water into one bucket, only one TEASPOON of it is drinkable! I want to support that cause!

Have you tried any Nature’s Gate products? You can purchase from them online or, use their store locator to find a store near you.

BFTE Cosmetics’ Back To School Collection

It’s old news however, I am the owner of Beauty From The Earth Cosmetics. I purchased the  6 year old business last April. And to say that I have been busy could be an understatement. I just released my sixth collection this Saturday. This is the Back To School collection

Back To School Collection pile watermarked #2

I asked my niece to collaborate with me on this one. She’s 15 and will be a sophomore this year. She loves using BFTE shadows and I thought it would be cool to give her the opportunity to have a hand in the creation of a collection.

There are four, full-size shadows in this collection and, it is available 8/2 to 8/17/14. These are all brand-new colors and are limited editions. The set is $20.

First, I want you to know that I NEVER, EVER had Detention when I was in school. I was a good student and didn’t get into trouble. But, that doesn’t mean you can’t have a little fun with Detention. This shadow was created knowing that some mineral makeup users love to use it as eyeliner. So, BFTE’s Detention can be foiled for a serious purple eyeliner or, use it to create a smoky eye that just doesn’t play by the rules…

detention raw pile 2 watermarked Detention swatches watermarked

The first swatch is over eye primer, the second is swatched with BFTE’s Mix and Fix sealant.

Where’s Your Hall Pass? is almost the same shade of pink the hall passes were when I was in school. We hardly ever used them because there were only 100 students in the entire high school!!! Nevertheless, this pink invoked a lot of fun memories…

Pass Pile Hall Pass swatches If you have to take a bus to school, that has to have its own set of school time anxieties. I was lucky. I lived only 4 blocks from the school. We didn’t have bussing until we consolidated with a couple of other towns my freshman year. I lucked out. The building that was only 4 blocks away continued to be the same school I went to from Kindergarten until I moved away my Senior year. Missed The Bus is the yellow color without all the hassle…

The top swatch is dry over eye primer. The bottom is using Fix and Mix fixative.

Waiting On The Bell is a brilliant bronze shadow with bright pink sparkles. Way more interesting than waiting for the bell to ring. Life never went so slow at waiting for the last school bell to ring. This shade is meant to transition right into being an early Fall color…

Again, the top swatch is dry over eye primer. The bottom, foiled with Fix and Mix sealant.

For my look of the day, I foiled Detention with Fix and Mix sealant for my liner. I used Missed The Bus in the inner corners, Where’s Your Hall Pass? over the lid and blended up to the brow. Then I used Waiting For The Bell in my crease…

Back To School eyes

And my complete look using the Back To School collection: I used BFTE’s Ivory foundation, Aruba blush (soon to be added to the site), Translucent powder, and the shadow Stunning mixed with a lip balm for my lips…
