Wear Your Mittens! St. Valentine’s Manicure Marathon – Day 4

Day Four…of the Valentine’s Day Manicure Marathon.  But, is this day 4 for your kids to be out of school?  For your grocery store to be closed?  For more snow and ice than you ever want to see in your life again?

Then I dedicate this manicure to you…

Got Mittens?  If not, you might want to try these ‘Merry Mittens’ from the 2010 Christmas collection by Finger Paints.  This was quite a collection because I loved every single one of them.  I did review this firecracker red here.  I’m still gushing over this red too.

A bright red with red sparkles.  My favorite type of red.  A Cupid’s Heart Red.

And, I found, that when I go back and look through my photos, I see one and think ‘did I do that?!’  Look, I’m all for saying ‘hey, I did good’ when you feel that.  So, here’s mine…

Something is just right about the pose, the light, the color showing.  I did good with this photo!

Do you feel OK with saying to others that you did good?  Do you think wearing a hot red nail polish gives you more confidence?

Added Side Note:  Yesterday was Libby’s Birthday.  She turned 7.  (Her litter mate brother, Sebastian shares the day.)  We all go on about our kids and pets and how great, good, smart and beautiful they are.  And we are telling the truth every single time.  I have never, ever regretting getting Libby and Sabbie.  I will always feel loved with them in my life.  Here’s Libby who has been sitting in my lap this entire post, kissing me and purring while I cuddle her between keystrokes.

Libby’s own white mittens…

How Do You Mend A Broken Heart?

For many years when I was single, it seemed like the whole world was ‘coupled.’  I was the only one not with someone.  And just when I came to terms with it, I met my husband.  But I still spent many a Valentine’s Day with no flowers and syrupy cards and it was heartbreaking.

Thankfully, I’m not as heartbroken with a manicure gone bad.  However, it is still disappointing to find that it doesn’t turn out the way I had envisioned.

Good idea, fail on execution…

Starting at the beginning…I found these nail stencils at Claire’s.  Cute and $3.50 gets you 10 stencils, 2 different designs.

Next, I started with a light pink frost.  This one is from OPI and it’s from a mini set that had something to do with a Wedding French manicure.  I’ve had this a long time so I don’t remember the formal collection it came from…

It’s a frosty, pink shell color.  Very demure and not only is it work appropriate, I think it’s good for all ages too.

Sheer enough for visible nail line and doesn’t hide craggy cuticles, but I can see healthy nail beds.
Here’s were it really fell of the road.  I attempted a couple of the stencils but, this is what I ended up with…

Problem: the polish came off with the stencil.  I used two different brands of polish too.  The red on the thumb is 10 Professional Nail Polish in ‘From Paris With Love.’ (One of two types of polish that came out at CVS early last fall.  I posted here about it.) and for the pink I used Forever 21’s Love & Beauty ain’t got no name frost pink.

I tried the third time on my ring finger and didn’t leave the polish on as long.  Still, not the look I wanted or expected to see from using the stencils.

So, how does one mend a broken heart?  Best advise, Zoya’s Remove+.

As a side note, check out a more current version of ‘How Do You Mend A Broken Heart.‘  This is what happened to my heart throb!  Well, that first video is 40 YEARS OLD!!!  OMG!!!

Who else felt really old knowing that!

St. Valentine’s Manicure Marathon – Day 1

I’ve never run a marathon before.  I did do a 5K but that was back in college.  I don’t think I’ve run that much for that long since.  However, this marathon is a St. Valentine’s Day-inspired Manicure Marathon.  Each day for the next 14 days I will post a manicure that makes me think of the holiday of LOVE….

When I was in school, I don’t think my parents wanted me to have any crushes on guys.  So when Valentine’s Day came around…do you know how hard it was to sneak around to get a guy a Valentine’s Day card?  In a tiny town that only had one little drugstore and one small grocery store?  And, heaven forbid I make one!!!  I didn’t want to be any more nerdy than I was.

Luckily, my parents have no say in my relationships as well as my makeup habits.  I must say that my family adore my ‘Internet-elusive’ husband, though.  And my flair for all things of beauty, they’ve come accustomed to.

How about this for falling in love….

Yes, ‘Mrs. Claus’ is from China Glaze’s 2010 Christmas collection.  But hey, if you don’t tell anyone, they’ll think it is a Valentine’s Day polish.  And if you like this one, check your Sally’s.  I am seeing polishes from this holiday collection on clearance.

I’ve been in and out of love, a lot….and with nail polishes too.  lol  However, this one is downright HOT!   Stunning red jelly with voluminous red glitter.  Looooovvve Iitttt! (Say that like Oprah does; it’s a hoot!)

Red is life, love, passion, all seen as characteristics of a living earth.  During this season of a death-like feel to the earth, our ancestors paid homage to this life force in hopes that it would return again in the spring time.  Babies conceived during this time could arrive just in time for the last harvest and something to be thankful for; continuing the bloodline.

I did say it was a Manicure Marathon, didn’t I?  Oh well, my blog, my rules.  lol

All I know is that I love red; red polish, red lipstick, red hair, red clothes, red cars, etc.  You can say all those things are HOT!  And Mrs. Claus is one hot cutie.

Don’t tell me that you’ve never used a Christmas polish for a Valentine’s Day polish!!!  ??
