Kiehl’s Super Fluid UV Defense Sunscreen

This product was given to me to review.

I speak right up when someone wants to know what skincare products I love and, what do I use when not testing out products for the blog. I use Kiehl’s. Their products have given me not only the results I’m looking for but also, I see results very quickly.

So, when I got the opportunity to try out Kiehl’s Super Fluid UV Defense Sunscreen, I knew it was going to be a product I could truly put to the test.DSCF0011

I have been running and training for 5K races for over a year straight. Even though I am out early in the morning to do my runs, I have found that being at a higher altitude, here in the Denver area, makes a huge difference in the amount of sun I am exposed to. This is why I choose products that have SPF 50 for my body when I am outside.

Kiehl’s Super Fluid states that it is 50+. Now we’re talkin’! This isn’t the old, goopy, stinky stuff from years ago. Not only does this apply completely into my skin, it also doesn’t have a bad smell. It’s a light fragrance that quickly dissipates.

Note in the photo above that this sunscreen is for both UVA and UVB sun rays. You want a sunscreen that protects from both of these which is why it’s called Broad Spectrum.

Those with oily skin can run into problems with some sunscreens. While I have normal to dry skin, I feel that almost everyone can use this and not experience break outs. However, Kiehl’s has a very liberal return policy and, you can always get samples at their stores to give it a trial run first.

DSCF0013When I read the ‘Shake Well’ wording, I did so. There’s a serious ball in there to mix things up! I will take it that there is some separation when the bottle sits and you want to mix it all up. Not a problem at all. I tend to shake up most bottles before using, anyway.

There’s a tamper-proof tab to remove before dispensing…

I definitely want to share the ingredient list with you…

And, as I have stated before, I like to research ingredients that are not familiar to me. I wanted to learn more about Avobenzone and Oxybenzone. You can find these readily in a variety of sunscreens but, not in all of them. These two chemical formulas penetrate the skin in a mesh-like pattern. This insures that your skin is protected from broad spectrum UV rays but also, that your skin can still breathe and perspire. These two ingredients don’t clump or compromise your protection when you sweat. Just remember that you will want to reapply Super Fluid every two hours.

I put a small sample on the back of my hand to show you that the Super Fluid is, indeed, a fluid, and not a cream…

I dispense an amount on my fingers and then rub it into my skin. As you can see, it completely soaks in and doesn’t leave any residue behind…

It dries completely, with no tacky film. The bottle doesn’t state specifically if this is just for the face or the body. I take it that it’s made for both. And, I used it for both. I applied the Super Fluid on my face after I had applied a moisturizer. I use Kiehl’s Powerful-Strength Line-Reducing Concentrate under and around my eyes and then I applied Super Fluid over that and all over my face. Since it has a matte finish, I didn’t mind using it on my face one bit. I like the way it feels on my skin.

I particularly like using Super Fluid on the backs of my hands (if you are not putting a daily SPF on the back of your hands, start right now!), my ears, on the back of my neck and back, all over on the front of my neck, onto the decolletage area and, even onto the tops of my shoulders. However, you can use this all over your body. Boy, does my skin feel silky when I use this. I, actually, look forward to using this sunscreen.

Kiehl’s Super Fluid UV Defense Sunscreen can be found at their stores or, you can order it on their website. Super Fluid comes in two sizes: 1.7 oz for $38 and, 4.2 oz for $61.

I have made Kiehl’s Super Fluid a staple on training and race days. Are you fastidious about using SPF too?

This sounds great. I should really start with sunscreen on my hands!

    • I remember my paternal Grandma having lots of ‘liver spots’ on the back of her hands. I found out that driving gives the hands a good wallop of sun exposure.

  • This sunscreen looks amazing! I’m all about SPF, and wear it even when I’m inside the house.

    • Still a good idea because if it’s daylight, there’s sun rays. I work at having some product on my face with an SPF every day.

  • Allison @neversaydiebeauty

Definitely looks like a sunscreen that I would like. What is your opinion of avobenzone and oxybenzone? Some folks say to avoid them so I’ve been doing mineral sunscreens but they can be heavy.

    • My opinion is that it’s the lesser of two evils; the other being skin cancer. I found that my skin can tolerate them just fine. But, I know that it can be very irritating to more sensitive skin. I pointed it out so others may keep an eye out for it in sunscreens just in case they have experienced issues in the past.

This sunscreen isn’t heavy at all. It was like no other sunscreen I have ever used.

  • I need this in my life right now. I am looking for one currently.

    • Since it was Kiehl’s, I was pretty sure I was going to like it. And, it turns out that I actually LOVE it. It’s not heavy and, I’m happy with the near fragrance-free part.

  • I’m so glad you introduced me to Kiehl’s! This is one of the better sunscreens I’ve tried. I can’t stand heavy, smelly sunscreens on my face.

  • This is a wonderful SPF that is great for my sensitive skin. Love!

  • This sounds perfect for sensitive skin! If it were cf I would buy it to give it a try.

    • I hope that they will go cruelty-free in the very near future.

  • Aleya Bamdad

This is my all time favorite sunscreen.

  • I’m so glad that this works so well for you.

I am indeed, fastidious about my sunscreen. Highly. 😉

    • Since you live in Hades, that’s good to know! 😉

  • marciaf

I’m using a Kiehl’s cream sunscreen that is much thicker than yours. This is better for you since you are outdoors so much.

    • I don’t mind it on my body one bit. And, I make sure to cover the back of my neck too. It doesn’t feel heavy and that’s very nice.

  • FabZilla_Kath

I use sunscreen everyday. When I run out, I’ll try this next

    • If you have a Kiehl’s store, I bet they’d give you a sample to test out too. Let me know what you think.

  • I love Kiehl’s! It is so difficult to find sunscreen without the annoying chemical smell and white residue, and this sounds great. Thank you for sharing this!

    • How true! This was so light and didn’t feel like I had a film over my skin.

  • I might need to try this!

    • I think you’d like this very much. 🙂

  • I love that it’s fluid like- sticky, thick sunscreen always makes such a mess!

    • And, that thick stuff can take forever to rub in. Yuck.

  • Lisa Marie Heath

Looks perfect for nice and even application. Love Kiehl’s!

  • polarbelle

I need to use an SPF every day. I’ve noticed a huge difference in my arms and chest since we’ve moved. Kiehl’s makes very nice skincare.

    • Don’t forget the back of your hands! I’m really fastidious on that one.
