L A Colors: GRAFIXeyeliner

During the Winter Holiday season, Walgreens had a $1 to $3 beauty product grab and go display. These are usually marketed to be stocking stuffers for the beauty queen. I granted myself a couple of liners…

DSCF0354 DSCF0356These L A Colors liquid liners were actually 50% off of the regular $1 price as it was after Christmas. And before you say that I got a good deal, keep reading.

L A Colors has it in the pocket for the edgy packaging and name, GRAFixeyeliner. There were only two shades left to choose from and for $1 total, I went for both…

Both are dark shades. The applicator is semi-flexible. Just the very tip has some ply. Here’s a close-up of ‘Plum’…

So far, so good. But, we’ll have to stop right there if you don’t want to be disappointed. Alas…here, it is true that you get what you pay for. This is what my swatches looked like…

I couldn’t get a solid stroke for NOTHING! You can see the swipes I made in attempt to make a solid line. I couldn’t do it. The same happened on my eye; no go. Because the product is so watery, I knew it wasn’t going to be the least bit water-resistant. So, in an effort to make some salvation, I put another brand of eyeliner over GRAFIX and went on with my day. Had I not swatched and photographed these two eyeliners before using them on my eyelid, I might have tried harder to make it work. But, I didn’t want to waste my time, as I had already wasted a buck tried to make a silk purse out of this sow’s ear. (Isn’t that just the nastiest cliche???)

I am thankful that I didn’t purchase these as gifts. But with L A Colors, it can be iffy on the quality and usually, the quality isn’t there. The Vanity wouldn’t like to risk her reputation on shoddy products in any stocking that needs stuffed. A lump of coal might have made a better kohl stick than these.

You didn’t get one of these in your stocking, did you? I got a box of Lifesaver candies, which is a life-long family tradition. I made out way better!

Yikes! I’m glad you reviewed these so we know to stay away!

    • Beautyinfozone.com reviewed some winners from elf. That’s where I say take your money if you want a low budget goody.

  • Aleya Bamdad

Wow that liner has no power at all.Another item to put in the back of the makeup drawer.

  • Anastasia

I hate those stick applicators, I don’t think I ever got a good straight line with those.

    • Actually, I do like the way these had just a bit of give on the end. I was able to draw a good line but the product didn’t follow.

  • erikatheicyone

    Those are baaad. 🙁

Sometimes you can find a gem for a buck. Sometimes, you just get junk. 😛

    • And, truthfully, I didn’t have high expectations.

  • marciaf

I’m happy that I read this since I’m on the prowl for liquid eyeliners. At least they were cheap and you got a review out of them!

    • The ones you reviewed are some of my favorites, though! 🙂

  • I love LAColors stuff, but sometimes they are so hit and miss. Marking this one down as a miss.

  • Noelle

    Aww, what a bummer!

  • Ughh so unfortunate. I love the purple shade but what’s the use if it wont go on opaque??

    • Maybe I can make up some sort of watercolor trend. LOL

  • how disappointing!

  • oh man. I haven’t really used anything from LA Colors – it’s hard to find here… but that is terrible it didn’t work out.

    • Honestly, you are not missing out.

  • Nidia Doherty

I miss getting those Lifesaver books for the holidays! That took me back. I like the LA Colors nail polishes, but haven’t had much luck with anything else from them. At least you only spent a buck, and you got to be a good warning for the rest of us!

    • I think I’ve been a warning for most of my life. ;P One year we got gummy Lifesavers and that was so fun!

  • Farryn

    Ah that is so disappointing!

  • FabZilla_Kath

Oh no! I would be embarrassed to give it as a gift.

    • Better to spend the money on a tried and true, right?

  • myCosmeticBag

    wow very streaky

  • MyNewestAddiction

Oh man! Glad I didn’t try these. So disappointing. I would have been embarrassed to give them as a gift too! We have a rep to uphold!

    • I do stay away from the cheapy items for gifts and not just beauty items!

  • Jessica InTruBeauty

At first I was going to say great price until I saw the product results. Not worth it 🙁

  • I don’t think I have ever really liked anything from LA Colors. They definitely don’t look like they have much pigment to them. Good review!

  • I’ve never bought anything from them… these look so sheer and watery! No excuse, either. Wet N Wild is inexpensive and 9 times out of 10 has excellent products.

  • Oh, darn it! You win some, you lose some with many of the lower priced brands.
