ELF’s Blush In Coy: A Functional Multi-Tasker

Many Walmart stores in the Denver area have been setting up elf ‘tree’ displays. I already own a lot of elf products but, as I read more blogs posting about other elf items, I’m adding to my collection. Here’s my newest one, a powder blush…

This one is called ‘Coy’…

And here are the good symbols I like to see on health and beauty packages…

DSCF0221

As much as I think ‘Coy’ is a great color for contouring, it’s just too shimmery for my taste. ‘Coy’ is a light peach shade that has flecks of pink and peach shimmers. Therefore, I am using this, mostly, as a cheek highlighter…

And, I have experimented with it as an eye shadow too. That made for a pretty look and this powder is creamy enough that once it is patted on, it does have some good stay-put to it…

DSCF0227

For a mere $2, this elf blush is a workhorse. It can be used as a blush (as elf intends it to be), a shadow (which I liked very much) and a face highlighter (what is very trendy right now). When I used my more densely-packed shadow brush, the blush was more crumbly than when I swiped it with a big, fluffy highlighter brush. You can see from the photo previously how crumbly just a finger swipe back and forth made it. But, the feel of this blush is very creamy once on the skin. I could definitely control how light or, how heavy I wanted to apply it.

In this photo, I used ‘Coy’ as a cheek contour only…

DSCF0218

It’s a bit to shimmery for me and doesn’t give me enough depth at the cheek bone. Nor does it give me a ‘flushed’ look. However, in this photo, I used an old Avon matte bronzer as contour, an old (and favorite) Color Workshop blush, and ‘Coy’ on the very apples of my cheeks…

DSCF0221

For the complete look, I have Southern Magnolia Minerals foundation, Chinovi’s ‘Gaga’ and ‘New Year’s’ shadow, ‘Gaga’ foiled as an eyeliner, elf brow pencil and Maybelline’s The Falsies Volum Express mascara…

It is hard to find a completely full tree elf display at Walmarts because the products are very popular. If you get a chance to find elf’s blushes, you might like to try ‘Coy’. It seems it would be not only be useful for several different jobs but also, it could work for many different skin tones.

Have you tried out elf’s blushes yet? How easy is it for you to find elf products?

elf Studio: HD Blush

Since I haven’t quite my ‘day’ job as a merchandiser and am in retail stores as a JOB, I was definitely going to take advantage of Cyber Monday sales this past holiday season. One particular site was going to be elf makeup’s. I think it was 50% off. I do remember I got lots of goodies! Here are a couple in the blush department and, from their elf Studio line, I purchased…

DSCF0019 DSCF0024That worrisome little HD Blush is going to get all the attention in this post. I’ll save the Baked Highlighter for another day.

HD Makeup? What is ALLLLL the fuss? Well, that would be a GREAT topic for another post, as well but, if it means Heavily Dried-up, then elf HD Blush fits the bill…

DSCF0031

Yep. I hadn’t even swatched or opened it when I spotted this during the photo shoot. I was beginning to see what 50% off meant. Grrr…

To start, I thought ‘Encore’ was a pretty color; it still is, of course,…

DSCF0022

But, when I couldn’t pump any of the product out, yea….it’s all becoming clear now…

DSCF0032 DSCF0035 DSCF0039

So, by the time I discovered that the blush is all dried up, I’m already ticked. But, when it was a wrestling match to just get the top off, now I’m really pissed!!! Then, I ended up doing this to my backdrop…

DSCF0043

My Christmas spirit had been vexed, for sure. Oh, and the top doesn’t go back on either! Ho Ho Ho!!!! But then, look at the color…all sitting in its jar…probably facing abandonment…I was feeling my heart palette melt. I mean, look, just look at that color…

DSCF0033

I swatched it and it was and still is very pretty…

DSCF0041

It’s a hard working HD blush. Very pigmented and looks well on my cheeks. So, I am keeping elf HD Blush to pamper it and work with it. Heck, I’m only out $1.50. I was able to take a small swipe off the jar and warm it up so it was pliable to put on my face. Seriously, a speck is all I used for the hand swatch!

I can easily purchase another jar but, I’d have less gratitude if the price was higher. However, for $1.50, I ‘m not willing to contact the website and voice a complaint. I am getting some use of it, I just don’t know how long it will continue to stay workable.

Some tips for those that do want to try it out; seriously, a little goes a long ways. I had to give this a try several times before I got to the point I didn’t look like a clown. The HD isn’t fooling around! I warmed up the product between my finger and thumb before using a dampened Beauty Blender sponge to tap it on my cheeks, lightly, and then blend out. With my semi-dry skin, this blush didn’t budge.

I have since purchased another shade but this time I bought it at Walmart where I could not only check to see if it was dried out in the jar beforehand, but also take it back on my next visit if it proved to still be dried up.

A sidenote: I don’t like those types of bottles that have this type of pump. They don’t get down to the bottom of the jar. Again, I think I just gave myself another topic for another blog for another day. Oh, and OxyClean Laundry Stain Remover got the spot out. That stuff is awesome! Use it on your sneakers before washing them and they will look brand-new!

Have you tried elf’s HD Blushes yet? How did it go for you?

Fergie’s Jet Set Makeup Palette from Wet ‘n Wild

Being the sucker that I am for makeup palettes, I nearly wept when I found this at Walgreens. It is the limited edition Wet ‘n Wild’s Fergie’s Jet Set Makeup Palette…

samples and swatches 063 samples and swatches 064 swatches galore 012 swatches galore 013 As you can see from the photo above, this palette has a lot in it. When you open it up, the array of shades is overwhelming…

samples and swatches 068 samples and swatches 069 samples and swatches 070Is there a color that is missing? Maybe a red but, other than that, you could want for nothing. Some are matte, some sparkly and some shimmery. Some are very pigmented and some are on the light side. With 72 shades, there’s something for everyone…

samples and swatches 100 samples and swatches 098Most of the lip colors are balms. They are rather ‘wet’. Thus, there isn’t a lot of staying power with them. However, they are pretty…

samples and swatches 105Having an array of blushes makes me reach outside of my comfort zone. I can easily get by with just one blush. Actually, I have to consciously work at trying different colors. These are pretty enough to try them all…

samples and swatches 088 samples and swatches 108Sadly, these eyeliner and lip liner pencils are gratuitous, in my opinion. I suppose you could use the brown one for the brows, as well. There are just way too many other liners that are better. However, if someone doesn’t have any, these will fix you up…

samples and swatches 089Last are the highlighters and contour shades. The darker shade is too sparkly for me to contour with however, it does make a decent bronzer on my skin…

samples and swatches 086samples and swatches 059Maybe the sun was gone by the time I snapped this photo thus, the off white balance. Those shades are richer in color than the photo tells.

So, if you want to add to your palette collection or, just want to have a robust amount of eye shadow and lip color selections at hand, you might want to consider this. The only downside I see is that you can’t pop one of the lippies into your purse for on-the-go touchups. This palette is $30 at Walgreens. Considering the amount of makeup in this palette, that’s a pretty good deal.

Are you a palette collector or, do you add to your collection bit by bit?

elf Products: Not Being A Creeper, Just Pretty Shadows And A Multi-Purpose Stick

Do you learn a lot about deals and new products from beauty blogs? That’s what the point of reading beauty blogs is all about! So, when I read that Kmart had many of their elf products at half off (as if they are not so darn affordable already), I wanted to see if there was anything I just might be interested in. This is what I came away with…

NOTD EOTD 067 Do you know I love multi-tasking beauty products? Elf’s All Over Color Stick looked really pretty, so it went into the basket. There were only three different shade colors left for the eye shadow singles: Dusk, Sage and Golden Glow. Those were perfect colors to try out.

50 Cents? I spent $2 on this entire haul. I can find that much money digging around in my car console or under the seat!

NOTD EOTD 068 NOTD EOTD 070They are not tiny in size and have just the right amount of sparkle to be both bold and chic.

Here’s Dusk…

NOTD EOTD 074 NOTD EOTD 076Purple? Blue? Smokey Grey? Yes!! I think I have only gone twice in the past week without wearing this one. The pigment is really good, as are all of the shadows I bought.

Sage is a swell green to use to make an unique smokey eye…

NOTD EOTD 078I didn’t do a close-up of Golden Glow; silly me. But I did get swatches of them all…

NOTD EOTD 080All Over Color Stick in Pink Lemonade is just too perfect of a color for me…

NOTD EOTD 071 NOTD EOTD 073Since I usually wear mineral foundation, I don’t use cream blush but rarely. Now, I have been experimenting with using just a cream blush and setting powder; no foundation. Pink Lemonade looks so natural on me that I have been wearing that look often. I haven’t tried it as a shadow yet but it is lovely as a lip tint. The stick isn’t super creamy but it does slide on without a hitch.

Pink Lemonade works so well with my skin tone…

NOTD EOTD 084The shadows are on the flaky side but the pigment is super rich and I don’t find the fallout to be so terrible that a fan brush can’t whisk the crumbs away. The All Over Color Stick did much better as a lip tint than blush as far as staying power. However, I will note that I used the blush very sparingly.

Later, I found a four-shadow pan at Target to put these shadows in. It all looks very smart.

Fair deal for just $2, don’t ya think?
