PMD: Personal Microderm System

Keeping your skin healthy all year-round is key to having a great complexion. However, if you are putting on moisturizers, serums and balms on top of layers of dead skin, you are wasting your money and your time!

Exfoliating is super important. By removing that dead layer of skin at the surface, your skincare products will penetrate into fresh skin layers and really do their job. My favorite way of exfoliating, and I mean, truly removing the flaky skin at the surface, is with my Personal Microderm or, PMD, an at-home microdermabrasion system…

I love the convenience of using my PMD in my own home. I don’t have the hassle of making any appointments or deal with the expense of a spa. I use my PMD once a week. However, it only takes one treatment to notice a HUGE difference! You know that term ‘soft as a baby’s behind’? That’s how your skin will feel after using the PMD, EVERY TIME! So, instead of just softening the dead, flaky skin, you are revealing the new skin underneath that is primed to drink in your favorite moisturizer and reveal smooth and soft skin while buffing away fine lines and cleaning out pores.

With the PMD set, you get 7 planers. These are the sanding pads that gently remove the dead, dull skin. I start off using the practice disc as it is the most gentle and it does everything I need it to do. There are larger discs for larger areas such as your heels and elbows and, discs with heavier grit.

While you stroke the PMD across your dry skin, the head is actually vacuuming up the flaky skin. I like this for two reasons: One is that there is no dust flying around while I am using it and two, this vacuuming action also stimulates the skin which promotes more blood flow and creates healthier skin.

Using a microdermabrasion system can be very intimidating at first. I am glad that the company thought to include a DVD in the system to take you step-by-step through the process. After one use, you’ll see how easy it is and look forward to creating your own results right in your own home. Besides having immediate results, I like getting the full effort of my skincare products.

This isn’t something you can breeze through without looking in the mirror, I should mention. This is a serious treatment and you want to create the best outcome so, don’t get in a hurry. Enjoy the process as it is quite soothing. The PMD has a loud hum to it and it changes when you have created a successful vacuum as you plane across your skin. Start off with clean, dry skin and being planing on the smoother, flatter surfaces of your face, like right under the puffy part of your cheeks. Once you get accustomed to the upward motions, you can start working around your nose and by the chin area. I can get very flaky in the inner crease of my nose area and it’s very gratifying to microderm this area and see those flakes disappear.

The PMD plugs into an outlet, with a rather long cord and, maintenance of the unit itself is very simple. For the cost of just one spa microdermabrasion treatment, you can own the PMD for life. Right now, they have a 10% discount, store-wide, at their site. I totally recommend you get one and start your New Year with New Skin!

Lumene: Dry Skin Comfort Radiance Cocktail

Lumene is a skincare brand that I don’t read much about. However, there needs to be more talk about this awesome company, in my opinion! I have used a couple of their products and have loved them. Today’s post is on their Vitamin C+ Dry Skin Comfort Radiance Cocktail…

lumene cocktail

First, I want to say that you can find Lumene at Walgreens and, that’s where I make my purchases. I paid about $15 for this product. You can also find it online and CVS.

I was drawn to this serum because I am working hard on keeping my skin moist. Once Fall became cold, the skin directly under my eyes and the tops of my cheeks become so dry that the skin feels very taunt. After reading the package, I thought I’d give it a go and see how it works for me.

I’m happy to say that Dry Skin Comfort Radiance Cocktail is a godsend for my dry skin. After washing my face at night, I used this serum next. While, my skin didn’t totally drink it in immediately, it kept my skin soft and I didn’t feel any uncomfortable, tight skin afterwards. I actually liked that the Cocktail was slow to absorb yet, it didn’t leave my skin feeling slick or greasy. Just refreshingly soft.

Lumene uses plants that grow in the arctic region due to their hardiness. This Radiance Cocktail has cranberry and cloudberry seed oil in it that is known for soothing extremely dry skin. The added Vitamin C+ helps turn over the skin cell replication to keep your complexion bright. You can use this on your driest spots but for me, I used it all over my face and neck.

There is only a slight fragrance to this serum that seems crisp like a citrus note. But, it doesn’t linger for but a couple of seconds once you have it on your skin. This is a thick serum that you do need to shake up in the bottle to mix before you dispense. And, it only took about three drops for me to cover my face and neck.

So, do I like Lumene’s Vitamin C+ Dry Skin Comfort Radiance Cocktail?…

Here’s my latest bottle and it’s all gone. I recommend this product to those that have normal to dry skin and those that know that their face can tolerate Vitamin C serums.

Have you tried any Lumene products?

Freeman Beauty: Facial Hydrating Paper Mask Blue Agave

This happened last night…

DSCF0049

No, I haven’t become a Jason from Friday the 13th groupie. I have really dry skin during this time of the year and I needed moisture PDQ.

A month ago, I purchased a bunch of Freeman single use masks. Because the skin under my eyes and on top of my cheeks feel so dry, I was looking for a moisture treatment to soothe my skin. This is the one I picked to use…

Yes, my skin IS thirsty. The humidity is super low in the early Spring in Colorado. Last year, my first Spring here, my lips got so chapped. My hair was beyond parched. And, even my sinuses were dry and hurt. I’m doing better this year because I started my ‘stay moisturized’ regimen early and, I have vamped it up, overall, as well. However, my face still needs extra and Freeman’s Facial Hydrating Paper Mask was just the ticket.

This paper mask was so easy to use. There’s nothing to it, really. The serum on the mask is thick but not tacky and the minute I had the mask on and in place, it was immediately cooling and I could feel my skin drinking in the hydration…

Hooray for Freeman Beauty not testing on animals!!!

This is what the mask looks like coming out of the envelope…

I open it up and separate the mask from the backing…

Then it is just positioning it on and letting it sit for 10 minutes. After the time is up, I throw away the mask and massage in the serum that is left on my skin. Again, it isn’t sticky, it doesn’t smell at all and my skin felt ‘ahhhhhh’. About 2 hours later, right before bedtime, I did put on some extra moisturizer under my eyes and on my cheeks where it had felt dry and tight before using the mask. I did that just as an extra measure.

What a treat this was! If you are experiencing dry skin any time of the year, I recommend Freeman’s hydrating mask. I got this one at Walmart for around $1.50 and, it is one that I definitely will get again.

Have you tried any of Freeman Beauty’s paper masks? How do you combat seasonal dry facial skin?
