L A Colors: GRAFIXeyeliner

During the Winter Holiday season, Walgreens had a $1 to $3 beauty product grab and go display. These are usually marketed to be stocking stuffers for the beauty queen. I granted myself a couple of liners…

DSCF0354 DSCF0356These L A Colors liquid liners were actually 50% off of the regular $1 price as it was after Christmas. And before you say that I got a good deal, keep reading.

L A Colors has it in the pocket for the edgy packaging and name, GRAFixeyeliner. There were only two shades left to choose from and for $1 total, I went for both…

Both are dark shades. The applicator is semi-flexible. Just the very tip has some ply. Here’s a close-up of ‘Plum’…

So far, so good. But, we’ll have to stop right there if you don’t want to be disappointed. Alas…here, it is true that you get what you pay for. This is what my swatches looked like…

I couldn’t get a solid stroke for NOTHING! You can see the swipes I made in attempt to make a solid line. I couldn’t do it. The same happened on my eye; no go. Because the product is so watery, I knew it wasn’t going to be the least bit water-resistant. So, in an effort to make some salvation, I put another brand of eyeliner over GRAFIX and went on with my day. Had I not swatched and photographed these two eyeliners before using them on my eyelid, I might have tried harder to make it work. But, I didn’t want to waste my time, as I had already wasted a buck tried to make a silk purse out of this sow’s ear. (Isn’t that just the nastiest cliche???)

I am thankful that I didn’t purchase these as gifts. But with L A Colors, it can be iffy on the quality and usually, the quality isn’t there. The Vanity wouldn’t like to risk her reputation on shoddy products in any stocking that needs stuffed. A lump of coal might have made a better kohl stick than these.

You didn’t get one of these in your stocking, did you? I got a box of Lifesaver candies, which is a life-long family tradition. I made out way better!

Urban Decay: Foxy Four-Way Eyeliner Pencil Set

The Urban Decay eyeliners are legendary in their colors and wearability. After 3 years of reading about UD eyeliners being the best EVER, I finally caved in and got this limited release set. It came out last year as a dual-end pencil eyeliner collection named Foxy Four-Way Double Ended Eye Pencil Set…

If these liners were truly waterproof, they were going to stick with me ALL day long. I was ready to put them through the loops.

A set of 4 pencils and 8 dynamic colors. Here are the colors…

And, the other ends…

Listing these from the left: Demolition, Muse, Delinquent, Stash.

It really was difficult for me to choose which one to try first. And here’s why…

Mega swatch day 101They are ALL beautiful. And, true to all that I was reading on other beauty blogs, their staying power was as good as the smell of fried fish in the house on Fridays.

I am enjoying using the UD eyeliners and continue to stay in awe of the superior staying power of these shades. Truly, after I tested these on my hand, they were still there until the evening when I washed my face. I had to have washed my hands a half dozen times before then and there wasn’t even a smudge from the eyeliners. Sold? I am!

This holiday season, Urban Decay has out yet another pencil eyeliner set. I haven’t decided if I need it…so far. However, if you’d like to take a look at it, check it out here on Urban Decay’s website. The reason I’m tempted, this new set has FIVE new shades. Ohhhh!!!

I purchased my Urban Decay set at Ulta. However, you can purchase them directly from UD’s website.

What’s your experience with Urban Decay’s eyeliners?

NYX: Glam Liner Aqua Luxe Eyeliner in Glam 24 Karats

In August, there was a display of new NYX products on the counter at Ulta. Well, actually, new shades. I was almost at my budget for the month but decided to blow it because I knew these colors would go fast. And, I was so right! I went back two days later to get more and there was only 3 items left!!

NYX’s Aqua Luxe Glam Liners are one of my very favorite liquid eyeliners. I got this one with the Holidays in mind…

Other gold eyeliner pencils I have tried just don’t do as well as gold liquid liners. This solidifies my belief…

I have been wearing this with various shades and intensities of green eye shadow. The brush is very flexible but still easy to use so I don’t make too wide of a line, if I don’t care to. And that liner does.not.budge.

‘Glam 24 Karat’ is the perfect name. It really does look like gold. Wearing bold gold eyeliner is, or rather WAS, stepping out of my makeup comfort zone. Yet, every time I wear this, I get a compliment. That’ll make me twinkle, for sure!

Do you have this Glam Liner Aqua Luxe from NYX?

GOSH Cosmetics: Swatches Of My Recent Purchase

Do you know someone that will purchase an item and then sit on it, not use it? If you don’t, you do now. That’s what I tend to do. My reasoning is that I don’t want to spoil the newness. As long as I don’t use it, hey, it’s still new, right? Well, that’s how I feel whether it makes sense or not.

There is one thing that I have found that helps me and that is capturing that newness, the unspoiled feeling and, that is with photography. I can take a ton of photos of a newly purchased item and savor it forever. Yes, it sounds demented but I promise, it doesn’t go any further than that!

In the last post, I talked about that lemming feeling for Gosh products. I have never heard of them until I started beauty blogging. And after reading posts upon posts about how great Gosh polishes are, I knew I would have to get some when it showed up at Walgreens.

Funny thing is, I didn’t even purchase any polish. I got these instead…

One lip liner, two eyeliners, and one quad eyeshadow. Let me do some so-and-tell of each.

First, is the eyeshadow quad. If I remember correctly, the store only had 3 color choices. There was this purple, a brown and a black/grey set. This purple set is a neutral purple too…

The shades are only a bit bolder than what I could capture in a photo so, here are some other light sources to get a better idea…

A close look of these powders and there are very complex shimmers going on…

This palette came with a transparent instruction sheet…

When I swatched these, I became unimpressed. These were not very pigmented, in my opinion…

The above photo is in very non-direct light. I turned away from the window (natural light) and this is where the colors show up to their fullest. Not too full, I think. I haven’t worn the shadows yet. Maybe they play better with a shadow primer. I’ll check that out. The palette cost $18.

Next are the two eyeliners I picked up. I was able to use testers at the store and that is, actually, what made it hard for me to choose. Since they are $15 each, I limited myself to just two…

Seriously, could I NOT get this green?…

And, I DID wear this green liner today. Yes, indeed, I did! The best way I can explain the applicator is that it’s like the elf liquid eyeliner but, the tip is slightly flexible; not ridged…

Now, I LOVE the pigmentation of these!…

Wouldn’t you love to have nail polishes in those shades! As I mentioned, I wore the green liner today. I found it super easy to apply and it didn’t budge all day long. Lovely!!!

I also wore, today, the lip liner I purchased…

Since I only have 7 (to the 18th power) lip liners, I chose a neutral shade as I don’t really have a ton of them like I do pink and plum…

This liner glides on; it’s super creamy. And, I didn’t just line my lips, I filled in my lips with this liner. Since I had a bold eye look today, I tamed down the lips and used this liner with an elf glitter gloss over it…

My shadows are a mixture of an elf palette and a shimmery palette from Forever 21. I don’t have the gloss on yet, so this is just the liner used as a lipstick. I used Kleancolor brow palette, Physician’s Formula pressed mineral foundation and an elf blush. And my shirt is my Christmas Hello, Kitty t-shirt.

What do you think of the Gosh products I purchased? Does this encourage you to purchase some too?

Milani Monday: Face Of The Day

This Milani Monday is a FOTD look. I used all Miani cosmetics to create it. Let’s start with the two eye shadows that I based this look around. These are from the Runway Eyes collection, which is a core collection…

‘Silver Charm’ is a soft color; not overly metallic-looking at all. ‘Royalty’ is a purply-violet that has lots of shimmer to it. ‘Royalty’ looks pink in the photos, but it is a lot more purple, which will show better in the swatches…

It might look like the sparkles are over-spray. However, I swirled into the pan and it stayed shimmery through.

I swatched both wet and dry. The larger swatch is dry while the narrow swatch is done wet…

‘Royalty’ is showing truer in the swatches.

To create my look, I used Milani for everything but the translucent facial powder. These are the Milani products I used…

From the top: my very favorite mascara, Total Lash Cover in Black; the lipstick is ‘Pink Love’; on top of the lipstick I used Haute Flash Full Coverage Shimmer Lipgloss in ‘Quick Flash’; I used two different eyeliners, both from the Shadow Eyez 12 Hour Wear Eyeshadow collection, ‘Green Safari’ and ‘Brown Deluxe’; and as the liner under my eyes, I used Color Play Felt-tip Liquid Pen in ‘White Line’.

This is how I got them all together…

Without a doubt, Milani’s products are very pigmented. I did the shadows wet and I couldn’t be happier with the intensity and blendability. The lipstick and gloss complimented each other very well.

In self-portraits, why is the nose made to look so huge!?? I wish it would make my lips look bigger. LOL

Do you have any of these Milani products?

NYX: The Curve Eyeliner

Did you know that NYX part of NYX Cosmetics is pronounced like ‘nicks’? I’ve always called it that but I have heard others refer to it by spelling out the letters. Well, I got it directly from NYX public relations that it is pronounced out and is named after the Greek goddess of the night.

This is one of NYX’s new items…

NYX calls this ‘The Curve’. It is an ergonomic-shaped liquid eyeliner. I have seen this on other blogs and I just wasn’t drawn to it. I don’t see how the bent shape would actually make it easier to apply my eyeliner.

However, after working with it, I take it all back. It rocks!…

How I was to hold it was intuitive for me, however, there is a photo on the side to demonstrate.I’m ambidextrous so it is made easy for both lefties and righties.

It is a funky-looking creature…

And, I have never used anything like ‘The Curve’ before. But in no time, I was making a fabulous winged look and the point allows me to make a very fine line…

The point is very much like a firm felt-tip pen. I prefer a firm point rather than a soft one. I can have the best of both worlds with a fine line or a thicker one. And, the black liner is precise, water resistant and lasts up to 14 hours. And, yes, it does last all day for me. There wasn’t a smudge, feathering or break in the line at all. That is a perfect eyeliner on my vanity.

This is just a single stroke across my forearm…

Here are some facts about NYX and this product: They are cruelty-free, their packaging is recyclable, and it has no paraben or formaldehyde in it.

There is only one caveat about it…

The top needs to go on a precise way. I would recommend paying close attention to that so you don’t run the risk of having your fancy-smancy eyeliner drying up on you. And, I guess there are two caveats: it only comes in black. I would love to see this in a brown, green and purple.

The Vanity loves this eyeliner and is happy to have it as part of the beauty look. Have you tried ‘The Curve’ yet?
