Toss or Trash: It’s Been A While But I Have A Pile

It’s been a while since I blogged a Toss or Trash post. I’ve been saving up my empties and putting them in a box. This weekend I went to look for something and I found two boxes full of trash! Yuck! I photographed these and got them out of the house!!!

Let’s start with the hair products. I just finished up L’Oreal’s EverStrong Overnight Hair Repair Treatment. I love that stuff! And, I’m going to miss it. I gave up buying L’Oreal products this year.  I am choosing to stop purchasing from, at least, one company a year that continues to test on animals. Thus, I won’t be replacing any of the L’Oreal haircare products that I have used for so long. And that includes the Total Repair 5 shampoo and conditioner. Here, you see that I finished the conditioner. As much as I love these two products, I love animals more…

DSCF0018

Suave’s Moroccan Deep Conditioner has made my hair super soft. And, the smell is lovely!!!! I found that I needed to use a lot of it for my hair to turn out soft though. I couldn’t be stingy and still get my wide-tooth comb through my hair. All in all, I would say that all of these are trash, meaning I would buy them again. But, since L’Oreal and I have parted ways, these won’t get replaced with same. And the Moroccan Conditioner was just OK. I am placing that in the trash column. (Yes, I know Suave is made by Unilever who still tests on animals.)

Next up are two spray leave-in conditioners…

DSCF0021

I purchased both of these over 2 years ago at a beauty show in Orlando. It’s funny how both of them became empty at about the same time.

First, Black 15 in 1 is a brand I had high hopes for. When I purchased this leave-in conditioner, I also purchased the shampoo and conditioner by that brand. Of the three, I did like the leave-in conditioner the most but, it is not a product that blew me away. I have no intention of repurchasing it…

DSCF0023

I have quite a love affair with leave-in conditioners. As I have aged, my hair is getting thinner and becomes dried out faster. I knew this was coming as I saw it happening to my mother. At least I am working on being proactive and treating my hair the best that I can. 12 Benefits leave-in conditioner is a winner because I feel that it helps keep my hair healthy. I would repurchase this one if I knew where I could readily pick it up. However, I have never seen it in any store or salon that I have visited…

DSCF0022

Next are the face products. Kiehl’s is my go-to brand. They give out samples and that’s what wins me over. I used Avon’s Anew line from the beginning, however, when I went to a blogger event at Nordstrom’s and Kiehl’s gave their demonstrations and I took home samples, that’s all it took for me to fall hook, line and sinker! I won’t lie; the Midnight Recovery Concentrate is expensive. This bottle is $70 and it’s only 1.7 ounces. It does last me a year, though. I use about 5 to 6 drops per night. When I am not testing out another product for a review, Midnight Recovery Concentrate is my best and favorite love.

Reviva Labs Vitamin E Stick was a discovery from doing a review for them. This simple little balm stick does a lot of different jobs. I use it on my lips and all around my mouth, for my dry cuticles and I will rub some of it under my eyes when I feel like my skin is especially dry there. I also put it on pimples so they don’t scar. For $2.50, you get a work horse! I have already replaced this as I don’t want to be without it. Now, for Avon’s Lip Treatment…

DSCF0026

OK, this stuff is great! What is not great is that I had to swipe my finger in it to use it. I know I could have used a Q-tip (too hairy) or a lip brush (too much of a hassle at bedtime) but, it just got to be gross. And, since I have medium-length nails, it really got to be a hassle towards the bottom of the jar. And, I think this little, bitty jar lasted me like over 2 years!!! It just couldn’t be used up!!!! I was so happy to finally finish it! As much as I liked how it worked on my lips and kept them moist, I don’t like the packaging so I will not be repurchasing this. Look, the label didn’t even last as long as the product!…

DSCF0025

I moved from Orlando to Denver last year and came out here before my husband. He stayed behind for several months to not only pack up our house but to deal with selling it and all that. When he told me he went to Bath and Body Works and asked for empty boxes to pack all my products from them, and they gave him CASES so he could pack up all my candles, lotions and potions from them, I was shamed into facing the fact that I owned my own B&BW!!! I have diligently worked on not only reducing my inventory but also, not so readily buying their new fragrances every season. Here’s what I have used up in the past few months…

DSCF0030

But, don’t you just LOVE getting those minis to try out fragrances!!!! I do! And, their Stress Relief body wash and lotion are stables at the vanity. That’s a good thing!!! I loved all of these fragrances. The ‘Be Enchanted’ was a hot passion for me when it first came out too.

Last, are the body and hand lotions…

DSCF0028

La Source is from Evelyn and Crabtree and I love their hand lotions. There was an outlet store I visited often when I lived in Orlando so I had quite a few of these around. Now I’m seeing the end of them and miss that store! If you are looking for a very moisturizing hand lotion with instant results, you will want to get yourself La Source. There’s not much of a fragrance to this one; it’s busy being therapeutic!!!

Proclaim’s Coconut & Macadamia Nut Oil hand lotion didn’t smell as nice as I thought it would. Coming from Sally’s Beauty Supply, I thought it would be a winner. But, I won’t be seeking to replace this one just because it wasn’t all that great.

Jergen’s BB Body Perfecting Skin Cream lotion smells very nice. And, I liked how it made my skin soft. But, that’s about all it did. So, there’s no ‘illuminating’ and ‘firming’ like the claims state. I’m rather disappointed too.

Have you tried any of these products? See any that you want to try out?

L’Oreal: Power Moisture Hydrating Shampoo and Triple Resist Ultimate Strength Solution

I have challenged myself, as a beauty AND animal lover, to each year eliminate one beauty brand that still does animal testing from my shopping list. I have to say that picking L’Oreal this year has been a challenge. I love L’Oreal products. However, I hate animal testing more.

You will continue to see reviews from me on various L’Oreal products, all of which I purchased prior to the end of 2013. These are two that I have just finished up using; Power Moisture Hydrating Shampoo and Triple Resist Ultimate Strength Solution…

DSCF0001

I moved to the Denver area 14 months ago from Orlando. Good bye humidity; hello dry skin and hair. It has taken longer for my hair to normalize than for my skin. But, I didn’t waste any time in purchasing products that gave lots and lots of moisture to both.

Just last year, L’Oreal came out with several new niche products for various hair-related issues. I was eager to try some of them out. First was to get a hydrating shampoo as that is the quickest product that can make or break (literally!) hair!…

Power Moisture Hydrating Shampoo made my hair instantly soft. I tried this product after going through 2 previous bottles of L’Oreal’s Total Repair 5. That was more moisturizing than Power Moisture however, I was experimenting to see if it was better than Total Repair 5.

The aroma is full and you get creamy suds which I know some may not care for. Since my hair is long, I do use a nice size dollop of ‘poo. I felt I was able to rinse out the shampoo very easy and my hair did feel very clean and healthy. Since I always follow up with conditioner, since I get massive tangles,  Power Moisture worked very well with whatever the conditioner of the moment was.

The after shampooing and conditioning care of my hair is probably more important than the washing part! This is where I can get a lot, no wait…..A LOT of breakage and shed. Earlier this past Fall and early Winter, I had so much breakage that I was alarmed. Before I decided to head off to the doctor, I switched up to a haircare product specifically to strengthen my locks before my hair became visibly thinning. Personally, I felt I could see that is was thin but to anyone else, I sure they wouldn’t have seen what I was seeing. Vanity isn’t used too flippantly around me.

Once more, picking out a newer L’Oreal product, I tried ….

DSCF0005 DSCF0006

Let me tell you that this product is awesome. It did make my hair stronger and has been vital in being part of my regimen to keep my hairs in my head. I didn’t have to drench my hair with Triple Resist either. I just did a few squirts at the roots, temples and ends and gently. with a wide-tooth comb, comb through my hair.

The fragrance is so mild that I had to open the bottle to even find an aroma. This spray isn’t sticky or greasy; nothing! But, oh, did it work! The info on the bottle was convincing and it wasn’t until I got home that I read through all the ingredients. Here’s your opportunity to read them too…

DSCF0007 DSCF0008 DSCF0009

Did you know amino acids are the building blocks to your body AND your hair? Arginine is one of those and it creates a bonding effect with hair, which is a protein. Proteins are made with a combination of amino acids. I was pleasantly surprised to see the ingredient Arginine as the third listed one and not WAY down the list. And is that citronellol I see listed? Extra points for keeping mosquitoes away!!!!

Triple Resist has a very cool delivery system. This type of nozzle really does help me from OD’ing with too much product…

DSCF0011 DSCF0013

Even though I thoroughly believe these two L’Oreal products have helped my hair return to a healthier state, I have had to make new product choices. I have discontinued purchasing Essie and OPI (a choice I made last year), which wasn’t near as difficult. And other brands have been even easier yet to leave behind because of their animal testing. Much like when I gave myself a year challenge of eating no fast food, it wasn’t easy at first. In fact, I still have people ask me in amazement ‘You don’t like fast food!!??’ Well, no, I did like fast food and many items I bet I still do. I have just made a choice to not use those products because I do not believe them to be healthy from my body. I’m choosing to not purchase L’Oreal products because I do not believe it is necessary to test on animals and I do not wish to purchase from them because of that.

I’d like to challenge you to give up one brand this year that isn’t cruelty-free. Which one will you pick?

Too Dimensional? From L’Oreal’s Color Riche Gold Dust Textured Collection

Textures and glitter and matte, oh my!!! Take a look at my first polish color for 2014…

DSCF0239 DSCF0242 DSCF0252I’d rather clean my house with a tooth brush than go on a no-buy rule. However, I have many brave friends that are doing just that. What I can do is slow down and not buy ALL THE COLLECTION!!! This is my attempt at that and, a successful one at that! ‘Too Dimensional?’ is from L’Oreal’s Color Riche Gold Dust Textured Collection.

It’s just a busy lil’ polish, I tell ya…

DSCF0255 DSCF0246If you don’t like your polishes rough, you may or may not care for this one. However, I think it is practically smooth compared to most glitter polishes. This polish, even though it was on the thicker side, laid down flat and easily. It isn’t glass smooth but has the feeling of a very soft linen cloth.

I have on three coats. Two would have been just fine. I was just blogging and reading blogs and was putting on a third coat before I even realized it was #3…

DSCF0243

Quite a dazzler, in my opinion. I didn’t bother with a top coat as I love the matted look. As of today, I have had this polish on for 7 days. I have worked 3 of those and don’t have but the most microscopic wear. For $3.99, I picked this up at Rite Aid and I am getting my money’s worth.

Even though I didn’t apply this mani in 2014, it has carried me over into the New Year. Over the weekend, I will pick a new mani but, it hasn’t been hard at all wearing this one for over a week. I am not tired of it.

This shade is sort of blue. It’s sort of gray. It’s sort of purple too. And, it’s festive enough to not seem like a New Year’s Eve party leftover.

With all the dimensions that are going on with ‘Too Dimensional?’, what will they come up with next for 2014? I’m super curious! Have you heard anything?

From Sample to Sell: L’Oreal’s Miracle Blur

I’m not alone, am I, with loving the small samples of skin care products that come in beauty magazines? Since becoming a beauty blogger, I don’t just try them out and say ‘well, that’s nice’. I check it out as a research project. Really!

I went ahead and bought L’Oreal’s Revitalift Miracle Blur after using the sample…

Mega swatch day 133After reading the ad and then experiencing the sample, I was motivated to purchase Miracle Blur. Here are some of the reasons I found Miracle Blur to be of interest…

Mega swatch day 137We are working with an SPF 30 here. That’s my minimum level. I really wish I would have been more concerned about using an SPF when I was younger. But, I don’t think it was discovered yet!! Next reason…

Mega swatch day 134It says ‘erases the look’, it doesn’t hide it or cover it. The light-reflecting properties divert the light from the areas you apply this. Also note, it doesn’t say that it moisturizes the skin. You still need a moisturizer.

Here’s some info from the back as well as the ingredients…

Mega swatch day 135Even though those chemicals are hard to pronounce, they do work as a sunscreen. Do keep in mind that many of these ingredients can cause skin irritations more readily than other skin moisturizers. I suggest making your purchase of Miracle Blur at a store that allows returns so you don’t waste any money.

The texture of this product is…different. It’s one that is difficult to explain. The closest I can come to explaining it is that it reminds me of the left-over goo from the lotion dispenser’s tip. You know how it’s not smooth but just a bit sticky? Miracle Blur is close to that…

Mega swatch day 139But, it rubs in very smoothly…

Mega swatch day 141It has a bit of ‘slip’ to it and I found that my mineral foundation stayed in place very well. When I used a liquid foundation, it blended very smoothly. And on a few occasions, I wore the Miracle Blur alone. That’s rare and usually a day when I’m staying in. But, it is still important that I put an SPF on my skin. Especially since I am enjoying sitting outside in the evening facing West.

Have you tried Miracle Blur? Do you look forward to using the skin care samples from magazines?

My Three All Time Beauty Favorites

We all have our very, very favorite beauty products. They are the products that we will go back to after trying out something else. Beauty bloggers know this well.

Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy trying out new products. And, I have made more new discoveries than the number of favorites I keep. I would like to share with you 3 of my ultimate favorites…

favorite products earring fixer 028I won’t be without my Silk Elements ‘Shea Butter with Olive Oil’ hand cream. There is always a tube on my bed stand and one in my bathroom or kitchen. The smell is soft and feminine. The lotion is creamy and doesn’t make my hands greasy. I use it on my elbows when they are dry and have been using it on my heels recently too. This hand cream is found at Sally’s and cost around $3.

My skin loves Dove’s ‘Cream Oil’. Again, not a lotion that leaves my skin greasy. No flaky or dry skin for me! Dove’s lotion is, again, one that smells lovely. Yet, it doesn’t overwhelm or interfere with my perfume of the day. Even before I moved to Colorado, I used Dove to keep my skin soft. I haven’t had one patch of dry skin since moving here in January. I purchase mine at either Walmart or Target.

And last, L’oreal’s ‘Total Repair 5’ hair conditioner. There’s a shampoo that accompanies it and I love it too. But, I am IN LOVE with this conditioner! It’s new to my favorite list though. I was looking for a very hydrating conditioner earlier this year and L’oreal had just released this new line along with 4 other hair care lines. I picked this one first and found that it made my hair extremely soft. Occasionally, since it is a rather new product, I can find  coupons for it. Again, I purchase this at Walgreens or Target.

One thing that is a part of my morning routine is to use a wide-tooth comb to comb my hair while the conditioner is still in my hair. ‘Total Repair 5’ conditioner allows the comb to glide right through my hair with no snags or knots. And, as with the other two favorites, I like the smell of this conditioner.

Here’s the theme I discovered with these three favorites: soft and smells lovely. They do the job I purchase them for and that makes them my favorites.

Do you have any all-time favorites?

L’Oreal’s The Enchanted Queen Collection: The Temptress’ Touch Nail Polish

Many cosmetics that come out around Halloween are not blatantly said to be for that holiday. This L’Oreal polish is one of those…

This is from L’Oreal’s Runway series and is from The Enchanted Queen collection. Even the name of this polish is wicked: ‘The Temptress’ Touch’. She’s just the slightest bit of a duochrome. Enough to mesmerize you…

I wouldn’t have dreamt that a lime green polish that morphed into a gold shimmer would be so delicious…

If you like nails that get attention, ‘The Temptress’ Touch’ is the one you want to get. I must have had 3 different people ask me about my nails the day I wore this. I have on three coats and a top coat of Color Club’s Eco Chic. Wonderfully smooth, I didn’t have an ounce of issues applying this L’Oreal Fall color.

I had tip wear, after two days, on my middle finger but that comes from my work. And, even if L’Oreal didn’t say this was a Halloween collection, ‘The Temptress’ Touch’ debuts at just the right time for it.

I Spy…Lots Of Halloween and Fall Makeup From Wet ‘n Wild, Revlon, L’Oreal

(Picture heavy and snapped with my cell phone.)

Halloween makeup has been showing up in stores for better than a week now. I usually spot them at Walgreens first. Sinful Colors got their collection out in good time…

But, I also spied another Sinful Colors for Fall…

I think there might be two new colors in this collection. However, most of them I recognized and already have.

Revlon has a cute Halloween collection with stencils…

It wouldn’t be the same if Wet ‘n Wild didn’t do their Fantasy Makers collection for Halloween. I saw two different displays. One was an endcap, which is a larger display. And the other was a smaller version, as a sidekick, which is to the side of the endcap..

L’Oreal has several of their Runway collections out. This limited edition is ‘The Enchanted Queen’…

One of Revlon’s newer collection, ‘The Shanghai’ has rich, Fall colors. Unfortunately, I like powder shadows and these awesome shadow shades are creams…

There is a new retail store in Orlando called ‘The Christmas Tree Shops’. It isn’t just Christmas stuff, though. In fact, it’s more other kinds ofstuff! Owned by Bed, Bath & Beyond’, this store has a Harmon Department as well (Harmon stores have the makeup, skincare, cosmetics, hair care, etc. department).

I found this there…

And, here is one display that should be for Christmas that has sneaked in on us…

Just a couple more things to show you. I found this at Icing’s Store (And I have a great, big UGH on this)…

But, the REAL Halloween stuff was in the CANDY aisle…

So, besides a bag of each of those candies (which I used for a giveaway at a bloggers’ meet-up), this is what I came home with…

I got the Halloween charm earrings at the Christmas Tree Shops. I will be doing a post on the 8-pan Wet n’ Wild palette soon.

What Halloween makeup have you seen? What are you getting?

I Spy…L’oreal New York Nudes Collection at Bed, Bath and Beyond

The L’oreal New York Nudes collection isn’t exactly brand new, but one of the newer collections. I found this display at Bed, Bath and Beyond…

Only the dark polish on the far right intrigues me, in the photo above.

I think these colors are super nude…

There’s the very dark brown, to the right, that I would like, above.

Nude shades are just not colors I gravitate to. I’m not into nudes. How about you? Will you be sporting nude shades this Fall?
