Toss or Trash: It’s Been A While But I Have A Pile

It’s been a while since I blogged a Toss or Trash post. I’ve been saving up my empties and putting them in a box. This weekend I went to look for something and I found two boxes full of trash! Yuck! I photographed these and got them out of the house!!!

Let’s start with the hair products. I just finished up L’Oreal’s EverStrong Overnight Hair Repair Treatment. I love that stuff! And, I’m going to miss it. I gave up buying L’Oreal products this year.  I am choosing to stop purchasing from, at least, one company a year that continues to test on animals. Thus, I won’t be replacing any of the L’Oreal haircare products that I have used for so long. And that includes the Total Repair 5 shampoo and conditioner. Here, you see that I finished the conditioner. As much as I love these two products, I love animals more…

Suave’s Moroccan Deep Conditioner has made my hair super soft. And, the smell is lovely!!!! I found that I needed to use a lot of it for my hair to turn out soft though. I couldn’t be stingy and still get my wide-tooth comb through my hair. All in all, I would say that all of these are trash, meaning I would buy them again. But, since L’Oreal and I have parted ways, these won’t get replaced with same. And the Moroccan Conditioner was just OK. I am placing that in the trash column. (Yes, I know Suave is made by Unilever who still tests on animals.)

Next up are two spray leave-in conditioners…

DSCF0021

I purchased both of these over 2 years ago at a beauty show in Orlando. It’s funny how both of them became empty at about the same time.

First, Black 15 in 1 is a brand I had high hopes for. When I purchased this leave-in conditioner, I also purchased the shampoo and conditioner by that brand. Of the three, I did like the leave-in conditioner the most but, it is not a product that blew me away. I have no intention of repurchasing it…

I have quite a love affair with leave-in conditioners. As I have aged, my hair is getting thinner and becomes dried out faster. I knew this was coming as I saw it happening to my mother. At least I am working on being proactive and treating my hair the best that I can. 12 Benefits leave-in conditioner is a winner because I feel that it helps keep my hair healthy. I would repurchase this one if I knew where I could readily pick it up. However, I have never seen it in any store or salon that I have visited…

Next are the face products. Kiehl’s is my go-to brand. They give out samples and that’s what wins me over. I used Avon’s Anew line from the beginning, however, when I went to a blogger event at Nordstrom’s and Kiehl’s gave their demonstrations and I took home samples, that’s all it took for me to fall hook, line and sinker! I won’t lie; the Midnight Recovery Concentrate is expensive. This bottle is $70 and it’s only 1.7 ounces. It does last me a year, though. I use about 5 to 6 drops per night. When I am not testing out another product for a review, Midnight Recovery Concentrate is my best and favorite love.

Reviva Labs Vitamin E Stick was a discovery from doing a review for them. This simple little balm stick does a lot of different jobs. I use it on my lips and all around my mouth, for my dry cuticles and I will rub some of it under my eyes when I feel like my skin is especially dry there. I also put it on pimples so they don’t scar. For $2.50, you get a work horse! I have already replaced this as I don’t want to be without it. Now, for Avon’s Lip Treatment…

OK, this stuff is great! What is not great is that I had to swipe my finger in it to use it. I know I could have used a Q-tip (too hairy) or a lip brush (too much of a hassle at bedtime) but, it just got to be gross. And, since I have medium-length nails, it really got to be a hassle towards the bottom of the jar. And, I think this little, bitty jar lasted me like over 2 years!!! It just couldn’t be used up!!!! I was so happy to finally finish it! As much as I liked how it worked on my lips and kept them moist, I don’t like the packaging so I will not be repurchasing this. Look, the label didn’t even last as long as the product!…

I moved from Orlando to Denver last year and came out here before my husband. He stayed behind for several months to not only pack up our house but to deal with selling it and all that. When he told me he went to Bath and Body Works and asked for empty boxes to pack all my products from them, and they gave him CASES so he could pack up all my candles, lotions and potions from them, I was shamed into facing the fact that I owned my own B&BW!!! I have diligently worked on not only reducing my inventory but also, not so readily buying their new fragrances every season. Here’s what I have used up in the past few months…

But, don’t you just LOVE getting those minis to try out fragrances!!!! I do! And, their Stress Relief body wash and lotion are stables at the vanity. That’s a good thing!!! I loved all of these fragrances. The ‘Be Enchanted’ was a hot passion for me when it first came out too.

Last, are the body and hand lotions…

DSCF0028

La Source is from Evelyn and Crabtree and I love their hand lotions. There was an outlet store I visited often when I lived in Orlando so I had quite a few of these around. Now I’m seeing the end of them and miss that store! If you are looking for a very moisturizing hand lotion with instant results, you will want to get yourself La Source. There’s not much of a fragrance to this one; it’s busy being therapeutic!!!

Proclaim’s Coconut & Macadamia Nut Oil hand lotion didn’t smell as nice as I thought it would. Coming from Sally’s Beauty Supply, I thought it would be a winner. But, I won’t be seeking to replace this one just because it wasn’t all that great.

Jergen’s BB Body Perfecting Skin Cream lotion smells very nice. And, I liked how it made my skin soft. But, that’s about all it did. So, there’s no ‘illuminating’ and ‘firming’ like the claims state. I’m rather disappointed too.

Have you tried any of these products? See any that you want to try out?

My Three All Time Beauty Favorites

We all have our very, very favorite beauty products. They are the products that we will go back to after trying out something else. Beauty bloggers know this well.

Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy trying out new products. And, I have made more new discoveries than the number of favorites I keep. I would like to share with you 3 of my ultimate favorites…

favorite products earring fixer 028I won’t be without my Silk Elements ‘Shea Butter with Olive Oil’ hand cream. There is always a tube on my bed stand and one in my bathroom or kitchen. The smell is soft and feminine. The lotion is creamy and doesn’t make my hands greasy. I use it on my elbows when they are dry and have been using it on my heels recently too. This hand cream is found at Sally’s and cost around $3.

My skin loves Dove’s ‘Cream Oil’. Again, not a lotion that leaves my skin greasy. No flaky or dry skin for me! Dove’s lotion is, again, one that smells lovely. Yet, it doesn’t overwhelm or interfere with my perfume of the day. Even before I moved to Colorado, I used Dove to keep my skin soft. I haven’t had one patch of dry skin since moving here in January. I purchase mine at either Walmart or Target.

And last, L’oreal’s ‘Total Repair 5’ hair conditioner. There’s a shampoo that accompanies it and I love it too. But, I am IN LOVE with this conditioner! It’s new to my favorite list though. I was looking for a very hydrating conditioner earlier this year and L’oreal had just released this new line along with 4 other hair care lines. I picked this one first and found that it made my hair extremely soft. Occasionally, since it is a rather new product, I can find  coupons for it. Again, I purchase this at Walgreens or Target.

One thing that is a part of my morning routine is to use a wide-tooth comb to comb my hair while the conditioner is still in my hair. ‘Total Repair 5’ conditioner allows the comb to glide right through my hair with no snags or knots. And, as with the other two favorites, I like the smell of this conditioner.

Here’s the theme I discovered with these three favorites: soft and smells lovely. They do the job I purchase them for and that makes them my favorites.

Do you have any all-time favorites?

Bath and Body Works: Shea Cashmere Hand Cream

We have all decided that Bath and Body Works is one of our favorite stores, right? Who said no?! You don’t count!!!

Now, to all those that are in their right senses, let’s talk about this yummy trial size: True Blue’s mini of ‘Shea Cashmere’…

If you like lotions that have that extra ‘slip’ feeling, you’ll love this. When I first purchased ‘Shea Cashmere’ I had gave it a whiff at the store before purchasing. So, I had assumed that the Cashmere part was due to the lush fragrance. If you like ‘Cashmere’, ‘Black Cashmere’ or ‘Cashmere Mist’, all by Donna Karan, then you will like ‘Shea Butter’. That ‘cashmere’ word ties these fragrances all together. I think B&BW was giving a gentle nod to Ms. Karan.

However, there is cashmere extract in this cream. Here is the list of ingredients…

Go ahead and click on the photo so the print isn’t so miniscule. It’s nice not to see mineral oil as an ingredient. B&BW used it for years. They may still use it in some products, but the ones I like don’t have it.

This is a hand cream but I didn’t keep it just to my hands. I ran it up my arms, to my elbows. What do you know, my elbows liked it too! In fact, I liked it a lot. That ‘slip’ feeling just feels good. And it doesn’t make the skin sticky or tacky. My knuckles are my indicator how long a lotion is moisturizing. So, my knuckles stayed soft, easily until my next hand-washing.

My vote is yes for Bath and Body Works’ ‘Shea Cashmere’. I like the feel of the lotion and the fragrance is wonderful. If you are sensitive to fragrances, you might want to check this out first before you purchase. It is a very powerful smell and may not appeal to those that get headaches from perfumes and such. The lotion is very fast absorbing so I can get back to my work at hand without anything falling from my hand.

If you purchase stuff at B&BW without one of their coupons, I’m sending you to be back of the class! I never buy anything there without a coupon! Sign up on their webpage and get some coupons sent to you. Most of the time when I purchase something (with said coupon, of course), I will get a survey on my receipt. It has always been for a $10 savings on a purchase over $30. And, the very, very coolest part of that survey coupon, it never expires! I save mine and use them when I don’t have a store coupon.

And, another good thing, these little trial size make the sweetest gifts for RAOK (random acts of kindness). 😀

EZFlow: Silky Soft Hand and Body Lotion

EZFlow was at the Cosmoprof this year. I got to try out some of their hand and body lotions and this is one that I got to review. It is EZFlow Silky Soft in Cucumber Melon…

If you like the fragrance of cucumbers with a bit of melon thrown in, you will certainly love this lotion. I like this combo because it gives me a sense of feeling fresh and summery.  And, at the same time, my skin is getting taken care of in a good way too…

I love all the healthy ingredients they use. From their website, more good news:

Each of our six SILKYSOFT hand & body lotions is formulated with:

Sweet Almond Oil – Neutral, soothing base
Aloe Vera – Used for centuries, taken internally as well as externally, to calm inflammation
Lemon – Cooling and clarifying, with antibacterial and antifungal properties
Lavender – An ancient relaxing herb
Rosemary Leaf Extract – Stimulating and antiseptic
Vitamins A, C and E – Antioxidants which scavenge and fight free radical cell damage

I can’t think of one reason I wouldn’t want these benefits or ingredients in a lotion. I’m fortunate enough to not be allergic to any of these.

The consistency of ‘Silky Soft’ is a wee bit on the thin side however, it is not watery. But, that lotion absorbs so nicely into my skin that I don’t even worry about it now.

During the hot days of summer, cucumber melon cools the skin and gives a cool feeling to your senses as well. I use lotion every morning after a shower and ‘Silky Soft’ gave me a lift, getting me ready for my day. And, at the end of the day, I think everyone knows that cucumber-type lotions are soothing and cooling to the feet. That’s a nice treat for my feet that carried me everywhere that day.

You may know the name brand ‘EZFlow’ from the nail acrylic and gel systems they sell. But their lotions have a strong following by customers who like to keep their hands moisturized. Nail tech have been using ‘EZFlow’ lotions as part of their manicures and pedicures for decades. You can find the ‘Silky Soft’ lotions at beauty supply stores.

Are you enticed to get this soothing, cooling lotion for your feet?

Sample Sunday: Ahava’s Mineral Hand Cream

I got this sample in a Birchbox when I was a subscriber…This is a sample of Ahava’s ‘Mineral Hand Cream’. Not only does this smell luscious, it feels luscious. The texture is silky and velvety. The fragrance is a fresh, clean smell. It could be a bit too strong for some though. However, I liked it. My hands stayed soft for up to 3 hours after applying this cream. I liked using it before bedtime.

In the list of ingredients, there are about as many items that I do recognize as I don’t. But what I can I.D. is witch hazel, dead sea water, linalool (lanolin) , and citronnellol (citronella oil).

‘Mineral Hand Cream’ is listed as being good for all skin types. It says that it is allergy test, paraben free, and approved for sensitive skin…

I’d like to discuss the symbols placed on this tube. The circle of arrows is called ‘Der Grüne Punkt‘ (The Green Dot) and it is the recycling symbol used in Europe . And the triangle of arrows represents that the tube can be recycled.  The rabbit sitting on a triangle  is for a cruelty-free product. However, after 2 hours of searching the Internet, I was unable to find this specific logo. I thought it might be a European logo but that proved fruitless as well. The only connection I could, somewhat, make is that on Ahava’s on webpage they list themselves as being cruelty-free.

I found quite an extensive list of retail stores that sell Ahava products. I know that I have personally seen this hand cream, in full size, at Ulta. I would purchase it however, I have so many hand creams on hand that I don’t need to purchase any at this time.

As a side note: There is some controversy dealing with accusations against Ahava regarding where the dead see minerals actually come from. Since the extent of my review doesn’t cover this subject, I do suggest my readers to research this out for themselves and come to their own conclusions.

Have you tried any Ahava products?
