Replace or Reject: The Very Late April Edition

Quick, before folks from the Hoarders Show come to my house, I want to get rid of these products. Never mind the stuff I have bought since and have taken these products’ place.

Moving along…This is a Flower Beauty shadow I got from Walmart, where it is an exclusive. I got one to try out but, I found all the shade selections to be very pretty. Here, is Orchid-ing Around…

While it is a very pretty color, this type of shadow creases like nobody’s business on me. If you have ever tried L’Oreal’s Infallible shadows, this is just like it. Maybe a bit creamier. I tried an Infallible shadow and promptly returned it. I remember it distinctly because it was the very first time I had ever returned a beauty product.

Along with the Flower shadow, I found another Chapstick that has to go. There are way too many other softer (SoftLips) balms out there. And, here’s a Replace: Reviva Labs 5% Glycolic Acid Cream. I did a review on this product here. It is all that, seriously. I can’t wait to replace it.

You can see how serious I am about Reviva Labs Cream. I took a Q-tip to swab out every last bit of this awesome cream…

Along with the Glycolic Acid Cream, I also used Reviva Labs Hyaluronic Acid Serum. Not only did I fall in love with this one, but my husband got on the band wagon with me. When it was gone, he asked me where can we get some more of this. I will be getting a replacement of this one too…

You know, I sure in the heck have a lot of ChapStick brand of balms to get rid of in my house. Seriously. I thought I’d like Cake Batter but I did not. I thought it smelled weird.

The Argan Oil Styling Cream is a replace because this stuff made my hair feel healthy. And, this IS one product that smelled good. I can’t say that this styling cream helped to style my hair but it make my curls less frizzy without weighing down my locks.

I have a huge makeup artist case that I have fun going through once in a while. Actually, I have been going through it looking for things to remove to make room for newer, more loved products. The EyeStudio in Ivy Icon, by Maybelline, is a reject. I thought it was pretty at the time I bought it. But, the color fell flat when applied. I didn’t bother to try and make it work though. It just wasn’t pretty when I put it on.

The two shadows below the EyeStudio shadow are from Jesse’s Girl…

Cream shadows and I do not get along most of the time. Sadly, that is what happened with these two. Crease City. I have tons of eye primers. I like to have an assortment of them. In fact, the makeup company I own has a great eye shadow primer. But, these cream shadows just don’t work for me.

I feel relieved, even freer, to blog about these April Rejects/Replacements. I could tell you that May’s edition is forthcoming. But, I worry that the moving crew from Hoarders may beat me to it.

Have you had more rejects than replacements lately?

The Life Of A Frustrated Beauty Product Mad Scientist

Sometimes I just want to experiment with makeup and see what will turn up. I have been doing this since I was a kid and would mix up baby powder, hand lotion, aloe juice and swipe it on my hands with Q-tips. I was like 7 years old and I was playing with beauty products! Now, I can get my hands on the good stuff! It doesn’t always turn out great but the trying is the fun part.

I also like to try different nail polishes together, working with various top and under coats to see what transpires. Here’s one that I thought about for quite a bit and finally just went ahead and did it. I used Maybelline’s Color Show ‘Emerald City’ and Cult Nail’s ‘Angel Whispers’…

DSCF0032

Each of these polishes is adorable on their own. ‘Emerald City’ truly is more green than the photos show…

DSCF0034 DSCF0035

And, Cult Nail’s ‘Angel Whispers’ is beyond charming with it’s soft and demure sparkle…

DSCF0038 DSCF0037 Although it isn’t going to blow up anyone’s Pinterest board, it was just fun to see what would turn up…

Have you ever had a handful of polishes sitting in front of you and you want to see what they look like thrown together? That’s what I did. Truthfully, each of these have way more merit on their own than playing together.

Do you have either of these lovely polishes?

Maybelline’s 24 Hour Tattoos: Dare To Go Nude Collection

Obviously, I love makeup. I couldn’t be a makeup blogger if I didn’t. And, a few of the items I get, I become obsessed with. Maybelline’s 24 Hour Color Tattoos are some of them. I know I’m not the only one either. You know how you find out you are obsessed about particular makeups? You get overly giddy when you find that limited collection and find it ridiculously hard to remain calm, cool and collected. You also have to hold your hand over your mouth when you pay for them because you are extremely giddy about it and want to blab your good fortune to the uninterested  (I promise) checkout person. But, when I can run home and photolog them…sigh…sweet bliss…

These are from Maybelline’s Dare To Go Nude Collection. Yes, I know wearing makeup and calling it nude a nude look is an oxymoron. That’s the fun of makeup.

I paid about $8 a piece for these. Considering they are some of the best products to wear as eyeshadow primers, I think they are a very worthy investment. Especially when I can put one on, do some eyeliner and mascara and I’m rather ready for work. Great payout for a little effort. And, the name ‘tattoo’ is meant to mean they.stay.put. With one exception that I’ll get to, that’s what these do.

The lightest shade, ‘Pure Nude’ makes for a flirty, shimmer eye primer. But, you can go it alone and call it almost a Marilyn Monroe look with a very dark eyeliner…

DSCF0005

Next is ‘Stroke of Midnight’. I think this is probably 11 minutes after midnight because it turns into something way different, like once it’s past midnight, than the other five tattoos. You’ll get a shot of that in the swatches…

DSCF0006

‘Nude Compliment’ is a name that makes me giggle. Compliments on my eyes, I’m totally sure is what it means. This is the best taupe eye shadow primer/cream I own. If you get just one, this would be the classic for your Vanity…

DSCF0007 DSCF0015

I know ‘Caramel Cool’ isn’t going to be everyone’s cup of tea. However, the effects it has with green and yellow eyeshadows is so worth the investment. You will be pushing all of your eyeshadow looks to new limits with this one…

DSCF0008 DSCF0012

Now, if you only get TWO, you should get ‘Sleek & Spice’. I love this one as a stand alone. I used my richest brown eyeliner (*cough Beauty From The Earth’s upcoming ‘The Last Drop’ eyeshadow cough*) and I have made the fastest smoky eye in the West…

DSCF0007 DSCF0015

Last is ‘Beige-ing Beauty’. What looks like a peachy-nude, actually has this orangey duo look to it. Totally awesome. Totally unexpected…

‘Stroke of Midnight’ was so patchy that it had to get a severe pat-down and, that still didn’t quite do the trick. I am going to have to fiddle a lot with that one. My next trick will be to see if I can use it as a cream eyeliner. I won’t be using that one much as a primer or shadow, I can tell. The others, they are work horses. I love them all and am pleased without any doubts to add them to the Vanity.

I found these at Walgreens in a display and have been seeing them more and more. But, they are going fast because I haven’t seen a full display with all six shades since I picked these up.

Are you game?

Maybelline: Two Green Mattes With A Bit Of Pumpkin Hex Glitter Help

A road trip to Rite Aid was called for. I was hoping to find more than I came away with, unfortunately. In fact, only one item I got was intended. When I found these two polishes, instead, I thought all really wasn’t a waste. Maybelline is rockin’ some fun polishes, lately…

swatches nails and makeup 184 swatches nails and makeup 185Two murky olives; one lighter than the other. Even though I like the shades, I was curious about the glitter pieces in them. Or, maybe they are shards of glitter. I really couldn’t tell until I got these in strong sunlight…

swatches nails and makeup 186Microscopic view of ‘Aged Olive’… swatches nails and makeup 190 Beyond personal space with ‘Sage Staple’…swatches nails and makeup 188I’m going to go with shards since they don’t have a defined, consistent shape. Yet, here’s the disappointment…

swatches nails and makeup 183 swatches nails and makeup 182They look sort of like an alien terrain on the nail. Or, maybe I dusted while I waited for my nails to dry. (You may be laughing very loudly at that!) I love the matte shades. It’s the lack of shard-show that is the disappointment.

Now, the reason for the Rite Aid trip was to get some of the pumpkin polishes. There was only one that appealed to me or, I already had the others. But, I’m happy with this disco-ball of polish…

swatches nails and makeup 194 swatches nails and makeup 197Not just circle glitter but, tiny hex glitter. I wouldn’t consider this a Halloween glitter and that is quite OK. It will work all year long. It also jazzed up the murky Maybelline greens…

swatches nails and makeup 178 swatches nails and makeup 180Hex Pumpkin will be fun to experiment with and, don’t leave me out on the dance floor but, I know I might have something already like it. Luckily, it was less than a couple of bucks. $2 for some kicks. That’s cheaper than one Starbuck’s fix for me.

Do you like Maybelline’s ‘Ageless Olive’ and ‘Sage Staple’? What do you think about glitters in dark matte shades?

Believe The Hype: 24 Hour Color Tattoos by Maybelline

Have you ever been reluctant to try something, then get the opportunity to do so, find you love it and kick yourself for waiting? That’s my story on Maybelline’s Color Tattoos. Sure I was reading all the raves about them on other beauty blogs. Yet, my previous experience with L’Oreal’s Infallibles turned me off on these so-called long-lasting cream shadows. The Infallibles failed and creased before I even finished my makeup.

However, I got a chance to try a couple of the Color Tattoos out. The 24 Hour Color Tattoos run roughly $5 to $7. So, I knew I had a steal when I found a pot for $1.78 at Target…

polishes green eye 124 polishes green eye 125Even though it was a matte orange, I figured that it was a very cheap investment to find out just how great these Color Tattoo pots were. But, for good measure, I picked out a metal-colored one too.

First, this is ‘Fierce and Tangy’…

polishes green eye 126 polishes green eye 130 polishes green eye 132The metal shade I chose is ‘Inked In Pink’…

polishes green eye 129 polishes green eye 127 polishes green eye 131The reason I picked a pink was in the hopes that the posts I read about these was true; they last and last. I figured that pink would make a great colored primer if it did just that.

I liked what I saw when I swatched…

polishes green eye 138 polishes green eye 137 polishes green eye 134After allowing the creams to set on my arm, I did a finger rub and they did not budge. I was eager to try out ‘Fierce and Tangy’. I wore a solid orange top that day and I got a couple of compliments on how cool my shadows looked. IOne person even asked me if I did my own makeup. I took that as she couldn’t believe I could have done so well. Shrug.

Did they live up to the hype? Affirmative. And with flying, stay in place, colors. You may not believe it, so I’ll do another post on the 9 more I have accumulated since these two. Talk about hanging around on the eyelid!!!

The texture is a bit dry yet, you can work with it before it sets. I used my finger to apply it. Later on with a matte taupe I purchased, I tried a stiff makeup brush but that didn’t work so well. It clumped up. But, one thing you can do is layer this product. After applying one, let it set. Repeat.

Have you tried any of the Maybelline Color Tattoos? What one is your favorite color?

Maybelline’s Color Show: Polka Dots Collection

We used to purchase polishes that look like these from indy brands. However, thanks to trend-forward Maybelline, these are in stores for everyone…

polishes green eye 107 polishes green eye 113 polishes green eye 111Maybelline calls this the ‘Polka Dots’ collection. I really like these and, I think you might too…

polishes green eye 108This is ‘Blue Marks the Spot’. All of these are milky jellies. And, they are loaded with hexagon-shaped, multi-sized black and white glitter. This blue is just a wee bit darker than a standard pastel so it doesn’t look too baby-ish.

polishes green eye 109‘Pretty in Polka’ is a cute almost fuchsia pink shade. These are, essentially, the colors of Libby’s Pink Vanity so, I am in love. Of course!

polishes green eye 110‘Dotty’ is going to be THE Halloween manicure for me, this year. I love the uniqueness of this one.

Without any base polish, here are three polishes from the Maybelline Color Show ‘Polka Dots’ collection…

polishes green eye 114I did two coats for these polishes. Uber jellie, right? Whimsically and unique. Gotta love ’em, right?

If I HAD to pick a favorite, I’d go with ‘Dotty’. I don’t have anything at all like it. Which one do you like best?

Maybelline New York Fall 2012 Polish: Downtown Brown

Holy Whip It…Good!

It would be a huge surprise to me if my beauty blog is the only one you read. Heavens, I read at least 50 from time to time, myself. I’m a blogger but I’m more of a blogger reader. So, I have seen this gorgeous Fall polish alllll over the blogs…

A fancy-smancy ‘Downtown Brown’ from Maybelline. Coming from their Fall 2012 collection, I didn’t dally around trying to decide if I wanted this one. I grabbed it!

This is two coats and I didn’t even take the time to put a top coat on it. I loved how easy this Maybelline polish applied.

Not quite as light as milk chocolate but the green shimmer makes this one full of mystery!!…

The color in the bottle transferred to the nail very well. I don’t have to hunt for that green shimmer to show.

I still have nubby nails but they are growing fast and they feel strong too. ‘Downtown Brown’, however, continues to make me focus on my nails because that color is just BOSS! This is, so far, my favorite Fall shade.

I found this display at Walgreens and it was $4.99. I have seen this in several other Walgreens and Bed, Bath and Beyond, so I don’t think it is too difficult, at this time, to find.

Are you going to get it?
