Facial Wipe Wednesday: Beauty Concepts’ Tickled Pink Detoxifying Wipes

I have never heard of the department store Gordman’s until I moved to Denver. This store is like a more organized Marshall’s. Or, similar to Steinmart’s but trendier. I’m glad I stopped in because I found some makeup, scarves, purses, jewelry and purchased a swingy cardigan while shopping there.

It was time to pick up a new facial wipe and I was open to try something new. When I saw the pretty pink packaging of this one by Beauty Concepts, I was ready to start…

This package of 30 wipes cost $4. I was eager to see if they smelled like grapefruit but sadly, I was disappointed. It did smell OK but it didn’t remind me of anything grapefruit. Here’s the list of ingredients…

And the second part of the backside…

I like that it hasn’t been tested on any beasties. I wonder who is checking to make sure only those that are over 18 use these, though???

The total size of the wipe is standard…

And, the texture is run of the mill…

Here’s my thoughts on ‘Tickled Pink’: these made me pink because I had to really scrub my face to get my eye makeup off. It was a combination of the ingredients not being potent enough to dissolve my makeup and, the wipes were not moist enough to emulsify. The top tab that opened and closed was solid enough however, I wonder how old these wipes could be that they could have, possibly, dried up some? There’s no way to tell. I do know that my eyeballs weren’t too happy with how hard I had to press to remove my makeup. Too hard for me to feel OK about it. The wipes did alright with removing my foundation but, I still felt like I was scrubbing rather than wiping. I would rather wipe!

Despite the vibrant pink packaging and listing some natural ingredients, I don’t feel my skin was detoxified. These wipes just didn’t cut the muster for eye makeup.

Have you heard of Beauty Concepts before? Have you shopped at Gordman’s?

Be A Runway Beauty: Wet ‘n Wild Three-Pan Shadow Collections

Nothing wants time to fly faster than me anxiously awaiting to get the newest Wet ‘n Wild shadows. These three are almost their newest ones. There are the holiday cream glitters and 8-shade palettes now coming out. I’ll show you those in the near future. For now, here are some delightfully interesting 3-palette shadows…

swatches of wnw 002When Wet ‘n Wild puts a color collection together, it will get it to expand out of ‘safe’ color choices for shadows. Most of the time, I would never think of putting some of these colors together. Yet when I create a look with them, I’m like ‘Wow! That’s amazing!’

First up: Grays Matter…

swatches of wnw 005I had to take a super close-up to show the twinkle..

swatches of wnw 006Here’s your warning for this post: my swatches didn’t turn out at all like I wanted them. You may know that, mostly, Wet ‘n Wild powder shadows are not all chalky. Some have the fall-out expected from Wet ‘n Wild shadows. But, the natural lighting I used is way too harsh to see the proper pigmentation of these on the skin. There. I have given the disclaimer…

swatches of wnw 009Why there is the reference of gray in the name of this palette is beyond me. These shades are purple! The lightest shade is very pale. However, it did show up better on the eye. And the darkest, it was very flaky but with primer, it rose to the occasion for the eye of the day look.

I’m going to say this one is my favorite: Silent Era Film…

swatches of wnw 019 swatches of wnw 021Everything you read before on the first palette applies here. The darkest shade doesn’t work too well without a primer or something underneath to grip it. The lightest shade is more obvious on my eyelids because of the skin tone difference from my much darker hand.

And last, here’s Camera Obscura…

swatches of wnw 013 swatches of wnw 017The lightest and second lightest shades practically don’t exist on my hand. Again, on the lid, it is better. But, not only by about half. These two shadows were the weakest pigmentation-wise of the entire collection. However, where the previous darkest shades were full of fallout and really needed a firm hand to apply properly, this dark shade rocked out. It was very pigmented and created an awesome, deep smokey eye look.

If you keep your eye shadow choices far away from the wild side, you should be quite happy with these. They are more subdue, much more neutral, than the previous Pop Art collection of late this past summer.

How do you feel about these colors? Can you see the cross-usage between them?

Rue 21: Just A Bit Of Retail Left Over From Orlando To Colorado

There is an outlet mall in the town I live in. It is quite nice but doesn’t really hold a candle to the malls I was used to in Orlando. I still get a hook-up with Adidas, Bath & Body Works, Coach and Claire’s here, so it was a pleasant surprise to find a Rue 21 store as well. I had to stop in. Well, not really had to. I had a 25% off everything coupon! Nail polish is the only thing I landed on…

polishes green eye 080 polishes green eye 073polishes green eye 079These Rue 21 polishes love the sunlight!

polishes green eye 082polishes green eye 078 polishes green eye 077polishes green eye 085With no names, it’s difficult to tell you which one is which. So, there are two top coats that have iridescent bar glitter. One is a transparent milky white, the other is transparent milky pink. Then I got a pink shimmery polish to coordinate with the pink bar glitter. The orange shimmery glitter rocks with the white bar glitter. Easy….right???

polishes green eye 090This makes it a littler easier to follow. Starting from the bottom, I have the pink glitter alone, followed by the pink shimmer. Then, I used the pink bar glitter over the pink shimmer. Above that, I just repeated the same sequence with the orange.

polishes green eye 099 polishes green eye 092polishes green eye 089 polishes green eye 103The shimmer polishes have a semi-matte look and I find that to be very chic. The bar glitter over it makes it whimsical and fun. The bar glitter over the pink shimmer looks gloppy and that is due to my application; not the polish. I used three coats and only very close up can you see the brush stroke lines.

And, when I was ready to wrap up my sale, the sales person asked me if I would like a bottle of their newest perfume called ‘Fallen Vixen’ for just $6. After a whiff, I said add it to the basket!

polishes green eye 106If you like ‘Flowerbomb’ by Viktor & Rolf’ you might like this fragrance. Since it is a cheapy perfume, I have to spritz often to keep the fragrance around. Are you like me and love the ritual of applying perfume? Then, you won’t mind needed to spritz often to keep the fragrance going.

How do you feel about the trend of semi-matte polishes? Are you a pushover for those little add-on sales?

Believe The Hype: 24 Hour Color Tattoos by Maybelline

Have you ever been reluctant to try something, then get the opportunity to do so, find you love it and kick yourself for waiting? That’s my story on Maybelline’s Color Tattoos. Sure I was reading all the raves about them on other beauty blogs. Yet, my previous experience with L’Oreal’s Infallibles turned me off on these so-called long-lasting cream shadows. The Infallibles failed and creased before I even finished my makeup.

However, I got a chance to try a couple of the Color Tattoos out. The 24 Hour Color Tattoos run roughly $5 to $7. So, I knew I had a steal when I found a pot for $1.78 at Target…

polishes green eye 124 polishes green eye 125Even though it was a matte orange, I figured that it was a very cheap investment to find out just how great these Color Tattoo pots were. But, for good measure, I picked out a metal-colored one too.

First, this is ‘Fierce and Tangy’…

polishes green eye 126 polishes green eye 130 polishes green eye 132The metal shade I chose is ‘Inked In Pink’…

polishes green eye 129 polishes green eye 127 polishes green eye 131The reason I picked a pink was in the hopes that the posts I read about these was true; they last and last. I figured that pink would make a great colored primer if it did just that.

I liked what I saw when I swatched…

polishes green eye 138 polishes green eye 137 polishes green eye 134After allowing the creams to set on my arm, I did a finger rub and they did not budge. I was eager to try out ‘Fierce and Tangy’. I wore a solid orange top that day and I got a couple of compliments on how cool my shadows looked. IOne person even asked me if I did my own makeup. I took that as she couldn’t believe I could have done so well. Shrug.

Did they live up to the hype? Affirmative. And with flying, stay in place, colors. You may not believe it, so I’ll do another post on the 9 more I have accumulated since these two. Talk about hanging around on the eyelid!!!

The texture is a bit dry yet, you can work with it before it sets. I used my finger to apply it. Later on with a matte taupe I purchased, I tried a stiff makeup brush but that didn’t work so well. It clumped up. But, one thing you can do is layer this product. After applying one, let it set. Repeat.

Have you tried any of the Maybelline Color Tattoos? What one is your favorite color?

Maybelline’s Color Show: Polka Dots Collection

We used to purchase polishes that look like these from indy brands. However, thanks to trend-forward Maybelline, these are in stores for everyone…

polishes green eye 107 polishes green eye 113 polishes green eye 111Maybelline calls this the ‘Polka Dots’ collection. I really like these and, I think you might too…

polishes green eye 108This is ‘Blue Marks the Spot’. All of these are milky jellies. And, they are loaded with hexagon-shaped, multi-sized black and white glitter. This blue is just a wee bit darker than a standard pastel so it doesn’t look too baby-ish.

polishes green eye 109‘Pretty in Polka’ is a cute almost fuchsia pink shade. These are, essentially, the colors of Libby’s Pink Vanity so, I am in love. Of course!

polishes green eye 110‘Dotty’ is going to be THE Halloween manicure for me, this year. I love the uniqueness of this one.

Without any base polish, here are three polishes from the Maybelline Color Show ‘Polka Dots’ collection…

polishes green eye 114I did two coats for these polishes. Uber jellie, right? Whimsically and unique. Gotta love ‘em, right?

If I HAD to pick a favorite, I’d go with ‘Dotty’. I don’t have anything at all like it. Which one do you like best?

Forever 21: Pink and Grey Powder Palette

It was a real surprise to find out that my review on a couple of cream eyeshadow palettes from Forever 21 was one of my most popular blog posts. It was cool that may others felt the same way I did about how beautiful they were.

I’m not expecting to repeat it with these powder shadows from Forever 21 however, I still think they are neat to look at and work pretty darn good on the eye…

polishes green eye 014 polishes green eye 015Yes. There are two palettes. However, I’m going to show you the pink/grey one in this review. Then the green one later. I just have way too many cool photos to show.

Not all of the shadows have a batik look to them…

polishes green eye 049 polishes green eye 017Just the square-shaped pans are multi-colored. As with many, if not all, of the shadows I have from Forever 21, these are buttery soft, have some fall-out, yet have great color pigmentation…

polishes green eye 020 polishes green eye 019 polishes green eye 030 polishes green eye 029There’s a bit of golden over-spray. I know you’re not fooled by that anymore. It just appeals to the magpie in us for shiny things. However, the swatches are divine, regardless. I swatched these in the same order they are in the palette, starting from the top row, going to the right…

polishes green eye 053 polishes green eye 055 polishes green eye 056Take a look at the bottom row, first shade on the left. What??? It looks super-duper dark grey/blakc in the palette so, it’s odd that it swatches as a golden brown. Don’t think I’m complaining! I love the swatched shade! And the two on the right end; yummy for the brow bone.

I used a Q-tip to swatch these. I have found when I use a brush, I don’t get a good, saturated swatch. Just by experimenting, I found that a swab grabs the powder and transfers to my arm better. And, these swatches, as with all my others in the blog, are not done over any primers.

Can you imagine how many looks you can get from this palette? Soft pink to a smoldering smoky eye. I did spend quite a few days playing with this Forever 21 palette…

polishes green eye 051You haven’t tried Forever 21 makeup yet? Why not? You should!

Sally Hansen’s Sugar Coat Collection

Just like the crackle craze where every polish brand was jumping on board, we are seeing the same thing with textured polish. Some of them I am really loving. Sadly, Sally Hansen’s Sugar Coat is not in that camp…

Mega swatch day 332 Mega swatch day 334I am not a patient person. I will rush a polish to dry and it never dries fast enough for me, no matter what. Even if I manage to sit still I start getting itchy or, I have to use the bathroom. I know I’m not alone here!

My point is, that when I rush a polish to dry, I can end up making it look like this…

nail swatches 003Two coats and it isn’t appealing to me at all. It looks like I put the coats on too close together and got bubbles. It doesn’t look like a textured polish that is supposed to be ‘on purpose’. Nevertheless, here it is and I can’t give it my recommendation…

Mega swatch day 335I am happy that I only picked up three and I got them with a $1 coupon at Walgreens.

I need to know, do you like this collection?

Icing Polish: So Fierce

I have an obsession with the recent type of nail polishes that look like sprinkles suspended in a murky jelly base. At first, it was rare to come upon them. However, now they are quite trendy. This is a cutie I got at Icing…

kiehls icing mani ugly face 069Pink and glitter sprinkles…yes, please!

kiehls icing mani ugly face 070‘So Fierce’ is a pink base and lots of pastel hex glitter. Very girly-girl.

kiehls icing mani ugly face 081kiehls icing mani ugly face 074It does have a slight bit of texture but, I don’t feel that it is as much as the photos convey. This is just 2 coats and it is still somewhat translucent. I did 2 coats as I didn’t want to make the appearance look too thick.

kiehls icing mani ugly face 097kiehls icing mani ugly face 095Currently, I am staying with my brother, my sister-in-law and niece until I find a place of my own. In the meantime, I am unable to polish my nails, wear perfume or fragrance lotions because of my brother’s fragrance sensitivity. So, I haven’t been able to change my polish as often as I have in the past. I wore this one for about a week and I didn’t mind at all. It’s just that pretty.

Revlon’s Bubblegum Days Urban Nights Might Be Hidden In Plain Sight; Know Where To Look

During the Holiday season, you have to keep in mind the rule of ‘Look Up!‘ That’s what I did yesterday at Walgreens and found the new display for Revlon’s Bubblegum Days Urban Nights collection…New Revlons 001 New Revlons 005That’s ‘Girly’ and ‘Heavenly’. I picked them right off the top shelf, thankyouverymuch. Seems silly to find full, new displays staged for placement on the floor when there are several displays that don’t have a lot of product left. Merchandising law says that’s a No No! And there’s your inside secret to finding new products.

I will have swatches coming, I promise. These are just too cute to tuck back into the Vanity Vault!

Milani Monday: Face Of The Day

This Milani Monday is a FOTD look. I used all Miani cosmetics to create it. Let’s start with the two eye shadows that I based this look around. These are from the Runway Eyes collection, which is a core collection…

‘Silver Charm’ is a soft color; not overly metallic-looking at all. ‘Royalty’ is a purply-violet that has lots of shimmer to it. ‘Royalty’ looks pink in the photos, but it is a lot more purple, which will show better in the swatches…

It might look like the sparkles are over-spray. However, I swirled into the pan and it stayed shimmery through.

I swatched both wet and dry. The larger swatch is dry while the narrow swatch is done wet…

‘Royalty’ is showing truer in the swatches.

To create my look, I used Milani for everything but the translucent facial powder. These are the Milani products I used…

From the top: my very favorite mascara, Total Lash Cover in Black; the lipstick is ‘Pink Love’; on top of the lipstick I used Haute Flash Full Coverage Shimmer Lipgloss in ‘Quick Flash’; I used two different eyeliners, both from the Shadow Eyez 12 Hour Wear Eyeshadow collection, ‘Green Safari’ and ‘Brown Deluxe’; and as the liner under my eyes, I used Color Play Felt-tip Liquid Pen in ‘White Line’.

This is how I got them all together…

Without a doubt, Milani’s products are very pigmented. I did the shadows wet and I couldn’t be happier with the intensity and blendability. The lipstick and gloss complimented each other very well.

In self-portraits, why is the nose made to look so huge!?? I wish it would make my lips look bigger. LOL

Do you have any of these Milani products?
