Pure Ice Polish: Taxi in Velour Texture

Pure Ice nail polishes has, recently, released a gob of new shades and textures. I couldn’t pass up the fun. One of the textures is called ‘velour’…

This pretty purple is called ‘Taxi’. I just know there is a story behind that name, I just don’t know what it is. I do know that I think it is pretty…

At the curve of the bottle, can you see the golden shimmer? That’s what makes this purple polish pop. In some light, the color looks all gold.

This is three coats. I did use Lumos Top Coat and I still have this polish on after a week. I have the slightest bit of tip wear. I know I could get more mileage out of this mani too. I just am ready to try something else. And, when I saw all these new Pure Ice polishes, I got a bunch!

Did I mention that they are only $1.99 at Walmart? I have some polishes that cost 5 times that amount and don’t perform as top-notch as Pure Ice does. I got lots so look forward to more swatches.

Nabi Polish Again With A Purple Creme And A Cult Nails Surprise

My last post was a Halloween manicure using Nabi ‘Dark Red’ and ‘Jumbo Lilac Glitter’. I purchased this Nabi shade, ‘New Lilac’ at the same time as the first two. I had it sitting on the table with me while doing the ‘Dark Red’ manicure. Naturally, I have to do something while my nails dry. Here’s what I did…It was just a lucky day that I was able to capture the true color of a purple polish! That’s astounding in itself. So, I’m happy to show you that this is, indeed, a yummy purple polish…

Next, I added the glitter top coat and that made it a party…

Nail Wheels to show the mix…

The top nail is two coats of ‘New Lilac’. A very pretty and true purple creme polish. The middle nail is ‘New Lilac’ with a top coat of ‘Jumbo Lilac Glitter’. And the bottom purple is two coats of ‘New Lilac’ over one coat of Cult Nails ‘Nevermore’, a one coat black creme.

And indoors, it still makes a striking appearance…

I’m so thrilled I experimented with ‘Nevermore’. Now I want to do a bazillion swatches using it to see how dark I can make other polishes.

Am I the only one that thinks the nail with the glitter looks like something from ‘Nightmare Before Christmas’?

Milani Monday: Shadow Eyez 12 Hour Wear Eyeshadow Pencils

Eyeshadow pencils that have good pigment AND don’t crease are hard to find. Oh, you’ll find plenty of companies telling you that their pencils last but, if you have oily eyelids like me, one can almost give up even trying to find such an animal.

I have had a lot of success with Milani Cosmetics so, I was very hopeful that their 12 Hour Wear Eyeshadow pencils in their Shadow Eyez collection would hold up. Here are a couple I have…

“Champagne Toast’, which the name says it all and, ‘Royal Purple’ which is a perfect purple shade. Both of these glide on like a professional ice skater across the ice…smooth. And, as no surprise, pigment overload!…

These are chubby pencils. I still like to use these for liners as well, even though they will give a thicker line. It is good for getting a smokey eye look. And, as creamy as these pencils are, you can smudge them out every easily.

Both are vibrant…

‘Champagne Toast’ seems to be lighter in color once it is drawn onto the skin. It makes for a dramatic highlight shade on the brow bone. And, ‘Royal Purple’ is about as matte as you can get without actually being a matte; just a smidgen of shimmer in there. That way, it keeps it in the 2010′s rather than in the 1070′s.

I actually like wearing these two shades together because they blend so easily and create a fun contrast…

As much as I like ‘Shadow Eyez’, I don’t get a 12 hour wear out of them. If I apply a shadow primer, I will get about 6 hours of no creases. Do keep in mind, I have oily eyelids and I’m in Florida. Your mileage may vary. When I use a primer and then one of these pencils over that, covering my eyelid, and then apply powder shadows over that, I get an intense look that wears long and beautifully for a good 8 hours.

I have a feeling that these would work perfectly, for me, in the winter temps, and in locations not as humid as Florida. I have several shades from this collection and they all are gorgeous. Save from having to work with them in a humid location, I have no complaints about Milani’s ‘Shadow Eyez’.

Have you tried any of these pencils my Milani? Which ones do you like?

These products have been given to me to review. This is my own, honest opinion.

elf: Python Collection Nail Polishes

I surprised myself when I saw the new elf polishes from the python collection. I didn’t think it would be anything new. Well, whether it is or isn’t, it didn’t matter. I got 4 of ‘em anyway…

The silver nail, to the far left, is the Studio M that I reviewed here. The purple shade that is next to it is not part of the elf collection either. So the third nail in starts with the new elf collection. Silly, elf…they didn’t name their polishes. There is a blackened green with green micro-glitter; a dark red with an orange/gold shimmer; a blackened green (again) but with teal micro-glitter; and a dark eggplant purple with dark magenta and blue micro-glitter.

These are the shades that I love to wear…

And this is with just two coats. However, I think someone that is very skilled at polishing nails could get away with just one coat. There’s no need to apply a top coat as these are shiny all by themselves…

The two photos above are the best that captured the elusive purple, on the far right.

It’s easy to be gushy on elf’s new collection. I adore these shades.

Did you get any of the elf python pattern topped polishes? Which shades do you like?

Milani Monday: Face Of The Day

This Milani Monday is a FOTD look. I used all Miani cosmetics to create it. Let’s start with the two eye shadows that I based this look around. These are from the Runway Eyes collection, which is a core collection…

‘Silver Charm’ is a soft color; not overly metallic-looking at all. ‘Royalty’ is a purply-violet that has lots of shimmer to it. ‘Royalty’ looks pink in the photos, but it is a lot more purple, which will show better in the swatches…

It might look like the sparkles are over-spray. However, I swirled into the pan and it stayed shimmery through.

I swatched both wet and dry. The larger swatch is dry while the narrow swatch is done wet…

‘Royalty’ is showing truer in the swatches.

To create my look, I used Milani for everything but the translucent facial powder. These are the Milani products I used…

From the top: my very favorite mascara, Total Lash Cover in Black; the lipstick is ‘Pink Love’; on top of the lipstick I used Haute Flash Full Coverage Shimmer Lipgloss in ‘Quick Flash’; I used two different eyeliners, both from the Shadow Eyez 12 Hour Wear Eyeshadow collection, ‘Green Safari’ and ‘Brown Deluxe’; and as the liner under my eyes, I used Color Play Felt-tip Liquid Pen in ‘White Line’.

This is how I got them all together…

Without a doubt, Milani’s products are very pigmented. I did the shadows wet and I couldn’t be happier with the intensity and blendability. The lipstick and gloss complimented each other very well.

In self-portraits, why is the nose made to look so huge!?? I wish it would make my lips look bigger. LOL

Do you have any of these Milani products?

Jesse’s Girl: Mineralized Baked Powder Eye Shadow in Rosemary Frost

After years of hearing nothing but good stuff about Jesse’s Girl cosmetics, Jesse, himself, gave me some products to try out!! I met him at this year’s Cosmoprof in Las Vegas and not only was he super nice, I found him to be an ordinary guy that started a cosmetic company that just happens to be very popular. When we talked with Jesse, he made us feel that he had all the time to talk with us about his company and where he wanted to go. It was all very interesting.

Seeing this shadow made me giddy, and it’s purple, and it’s mineralized baked, and it’s pretty…

what’s not to like about it?!

‘Rosemary Frost’ sounds like a heroine from a romance novel, doesn’t it? But, this shadow makes my eyes look romantic.Purple shadows bring out the brown and green in my eyes.

I think this looks like a planet. The white and purple mixture greats a frosty, vibrant shade…

Sometimes I find that baked cosmetics can be hard and difficult to transfer to the brush and then to the lids. I didn’t have a problem with ‘Rosemary Frost’. I found it soft and completely blendable.

A quick swipe on my arm in indirect sunlight…

And here, this is at another angle…

I can’t help to notice that ‘Rosemary Frost’ is pretty at any angle. Jesse’s Girl is sold at Rite Aid drugstores. Bummer, that there are no Rite Aid’s in Florida. However, not all is lost; they have a website. There are six different shades in the Mineralized Bake Eye Shadow line. Oh, and one more nice thing: this shadow is only $3.99.

Tell me if you have tried any Jesse’s Girl cosmetics. What do you recommend I get next?

China Glaze: Bohemian Collection

After attending the CosmoProf in Las Vegas last weekend, I was excited to review some of the items I got. Then, I get a call today from my Sally’s Beauty Store Manager that the China Glaze Bohemian collection came in. I got to see these ‘live’ in Vegas so I am very excited to have my hands on them so soon.

I hope this means Fall is coming and soon…

‘Swanky Silk’ is on the left. That’s sort of a gold-ish taupe. On the left is ‘Unpredictable’. I liked the twinkle of light reflecting off it. To the right is ‘Rare and Radiant’. Not really so rare since I have at least 2 very close dupes. :P

Then, I grouped the purples and blues together…

First is ‘No Plain Jane’, ‘Want My Bawdy’ and then ‘Deviantly Daring’.

The display shows a peacock along with the model. So, you can see that all these shades are inspired by the plumage of a peacock. Pretty cool but, sure to make some red and pink polish lovers feel left out.

I got a free bottle of ‘Diamond Dry’ for purchasing 2 China Glaze polishes. It was only 1 freebie per person though. This is a $6.99 product. I’m looking forward to trying it out…

I shall be swatching these soon…like next year with all the other polishes and products I have for review. (That’s a joke. Maybe not.) There will be no case of writer’s block on this blog!!

Are you going to get any of these?

Revlon’s Moon Candy: Orbit

Revlon’s newest double-end polish set is called ‘Moon Candy’. This is the display I found at Walgreens. I snapped it with my phone camera so the picture really sucks. I went to Revlon’s website to see if there was a decent photo there and they didn’t have one. I didn’t want to steal a photo, but you can find a lot of photos and info on this collection if you google it…

Moon Candy makes me think of these…

and these…

Are those face orbs vomiting my space dust candy??? Ewwwww!!!

I got them all; I confess. Walgreens had the BOGO 1/2 price special so I went for it. The first one I picked to swatch is called ‘Orbit’…..

‘Orbit’, another candy! Well, the purple creme looks like a nice, healthy purple plum. The top coat is flakies. The base is a murky purple shade and those flakies are with no doubt, iridescent.

I would even like ‘Orbit’ just for the pretty plum polish…

But as soon as I snapped these photos, I ran back into the house and put on the top coat…

I love it. Flakes and all. I do want to mention that the creme was rather thick. In fact, it seemed to get thicker the more I kept putting the brush back in for more polish. The top coat, not so bad. I did put on two coats of the base color and two of the top. I used CND’s ‘Sticky’ for a base coat and this mani lasted two and a half days until I removed it.

This concept of having two polishes together in one packaging may not be popular with some bloggers, but I do like it. I really don’t need a full-size bottle of polish. I just don’t use up an entire bottle. However….at $6.99 a bottle, I think that’s a bit too much. So, the BOGO 1/2 off made it somewhat better.

Since I did get the entire collection, I’ll be doing more swatches. But, if you are eager to see more, you can visit Pointless Cafe blog. She did what she is calling ‘Down and Dirty’ swatches of Revlon’s new collection.

Are you going to try these out?

Dreams Can Come True: OPI and Forever 21 Polishes

This is going to sound weird, and it IS! I dream about, not just polishing my nails but, creating combinations of polish. I also find inspiration on makeup looks from dreams. I know I’m not the only one. And hopefully, beauty blog readers and writers will nod their heads in understanding.

This is my latest creation. I knew I wanted an iridescent base. It had to be something that would conceal the nail line. I dug through my stash and found this ancient OPI jewel…

It looks dingy and yellow, I know. But it is a shimmery pink iridescent. It was part of a set that was bridal themed and yes, it was a LONG time ago.

But, it was exactly what I wanted…

And this was the glitter polish that I was wanting to showcase…

Forever 21, love & beauty’s ‘Purple/Multi’. Something better: Grape Bubbles. Now to marry them…

I used three coats of the old OPI and 2 coats of love & beauty’s ‘Grape Bubble’.

The finished look was just as I dreamed; ethereal and airy. See, that wasn’t so bad. I call it a dream translation success.

China Glaze’s Safari Collection: Jungle Queen

I think ‘Jungle Queen’ is going to be the one that breaks from the pack from this collection. It’s more than just saucy, it’s sultry…

‘Jungle Queen’ is a purple-ized brown. I just made that up but that’s what I’m calling it. There is a shimmer of magenta too. So that totally freaks out the naming of this color. And I’m not going to worry about it because I’d rather just admire the polish…

I’m delightfully amazed that this shade shows pretty well considering it has been almost 2 weeks since we have seen the sun in, er, sunny Florida.

I have on three coats and that is one too many. I wasn’t giving enough time between coats so some of the nails are not as smooth as they could be. So, don’t blame the polish; it’s doing its job of looking stunning and ritzy…

Sultry is the perfect shade to wear for the Hades most of the country is in. My remedy: stay indoors, drink lots of water and paint your nails.

I used Lumos base and top coat for this mani. I’m going to do a blog on these yet. I want to convert you to Lumos over Seche Vite!!

I played around with this polish with some glitter. Wait til you see that!

Did you pick up ‘Jungle Queen’? Is it your favorite from the Safari collection?
