Replace or Reject: The Very Late April Edition

Quick, before folks from the Hoarders Show come to my house, I want to get rid of these products. Never mind the stuff I have bought since and have taken these products’ place.

Moving along…This is a Flower Beauty shadow I got from Walmart, where it is an exclusive. I got one to try out but, I found all the shade selections to be very pretty. Here, is Orchid-ing Around…

While it is a very pretty color, this type of shadow creases like nobody’s business on me. If you have ever tried L’Oreal’s Infallible shadows, this is just like it. Maybe a bit creamier. I tried an Infallible shadow and promptly returned it. I remember it distinctly because it was the very first time I had ever returned a beauty product.

Along with the Flower shadow, I found another Chapstick that has to go. There are way too many other softer (SoftLips) balms out there. And, here’s a Replace: Reviva Labs 5% Glycolic Acid Cream. I did a review on this product here. It is all that, seriously. I can’t wait to replace it.

You can see how serious I am about Reviva Labs Cream. I took a Q-tip to swab out every last bit of this awesome cream…

empties 2

Along with the Glycolic Acid Cream, I also used Reviva Labs Hyaluronic Acid Serum. Not only did I fall in love with this one, but my husband got on the band wagon with me. When it was gone, he asked me where can we get some more of this. I will be getting a replacement of this one too…

You know, I sure in the heck have a lot of ChapStick brand of balms to get rid of in my house. Seriously. I thought I’d like Cake Batter but I did not. I thought it smelled weird.

The Argan Oil Styling Cream is a replace because this stuff made my hair feel healthy. And, this IS one product that smelled good. I can’t say that this styling cream helped to style my hair but it make my curls less frizzy without weighing down my locks.

I have a huge makeup artist case that I have fun going through once in a while. Actually, I have been going through it looking for things to remove to make room for newer, more loved products. The EyeStudio in Ivy Icon, by Maybelline, is a reject. I thought it was pretty at the time I bought it. But, the color fell flat when applied. I didn’t bother to try and make it work though. It just wasn’t pretty when I put it on.

The two shadows below the EyeStudio shadow are from Jesse’s Girl…

Cream shadows and I do not get along most of the time. Sadly, that is what happened with these two. Crease City. I have tons of eye primers. I like to have an assortment of them. In fact, the makeup company I own has a great eye shadow primer. But, these cream shadows just don’t work for me.

I feel relieved, even freer, to blog about these April Rejects/Replacements. I could tell you that May’s edition is forthcoming. But, I worry that the moving crew from Hoarders may beat me to it.

Have you had more rejects than replacements lately?

Replace or Reject: The March Edition, Part 2

This is part 2 of the monthly Replace or Reject segment. If you missed part 1, click here.

The two-tone green is Maybelline’s Eye Studio. The two below that are cream eyeshadows that I do not recall what brand…

The Eye Studio is a two-tone powder green shadow called Ivy Icon. I didn’t find the colors to be saturated enough for my taste. And, I just didn’t reach for it. I wouldn’t replace it…

The two cream shadows were crease city. Even if I could remember where I got these, I wouldn’t replace them or recommend them…

Two Milani Color Play eyeliners that are colors I don’t use…

I tried them out and love the precision points on these liners. It’s just the colors are not for me.

I already made mention in part 1 that I’m over Chapstick balms. I haven’t even opened the Pumpkin Pie one…

This is an assortment of 2 empties and one reject. First, Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Toner. I love this! This is the toner I use after using the facial wipes I review. I don’t use it every time but, during the first week of the 3 or more I test a wipe, I use the toner to see how much residue is left behind.  Kiehl’s is always a replace. This is my 2nd bottle since discovering Kiehl’s and I have already replaced this one.

My beloved eyebrow pencil!! How I loved this as it was the perfect color for me…

empty 2

Definitely, well used and, used up. I can’t get the pencil into the sharpener any more. I am not even certain of the brand. I know it did come from the Dollar Tree and I picked it up on a whim. The tweezers were OK but, I have a favorite pair I prefer better. The pencil was the perfect blend of color and wax to fix and tame my brows. I’m sorry to let it go. It would be replaced without hesitation if I could find another.

This NYX lippie wasn’t a color I reach for. It’s pretty but I like my lipstick colors bolder. Also, the staying power was weak on this shade…

I also found this Prestige lipstick that I don’t use. I actually did a review on it a very long time ago! This one had better staying power, it’s just not a color I love…

So, there you have it. There are a few empties and lot of rejects. It feels really good to clear out things I don’t use. In fact, I finished up several paperback books and recycled them to the library at the retirement home where my Mother lives. I love books way too much to throw them away!

How have you been doing with clearing out your unused makeup?

Replace or Reject: The March Edition, Part 1

The Toss or Trash segment has been a tradition at the Vanity for over 3-1/2 years. I am changing the name to Replace or Reject to more clearly reflect the final outcome of my empties or, in some instances, a flat out rejection of a product. I’m not holding back either!

For March, I did very well with finishing up products. For this review, I picked these three to start off…

First, on the left, is a lip balm from Bath and Body Works…DSCF0002 DSCF0003

Let me say that this balm never smelled like honey or apples and it turned bad, anyway, since I never reached for it, in the first place. It’s a hard balm too. After discovering Soft Lips balms, reviewed here, I decided I don’t have to put up with hard lip balms anymore. And, since I turned my family members onto Soft Lips, as well, I can’t pass this Bath and Body Works stick off onto them.

This did have a slight tint to it. I had to make sure I didn’t color outside of the lines with stick!

Next, I tried the Simple Ultra-Light Gel Moisturizer. I used up almost all of this product in hopes that it would work for me. There was about 2/5 left when I decided that it wasn’t going to happen and deemed it a reject.

Now, the product is very good but, just not for my skin type which is normal to dry. I need more moisturizing properties than this Simple product provides. I would recommend it for those that have oily skin. I did find the gel texture to be too sticky for my preference.

Last is the Instant Youth Potion. I reviewed this as part of the ZMask set here. Since I have dedicated this year to using up or, purging products, I started using the Instant Youth Potion every day. I did use it for my morning routine as it has some skin-tightening properties. I liked how it smoothed out my fine lines almost instantly. This potion isn’t truly a Reject, as I wouldn’t mind using it again. However, since there are so many other products I have to use up and, Instant Youth Potion isn’t easily purchased at a store, I have no plans on replacing it.

Have you been doing good with purging at your own Vanity? Which of these products have you used?
