Sally Hansen’s Satin Glam in Silk Onyx

Sally Hansen nail polish is the polish my beloved Grandma used to wear. I would love to know that Grandma would think of Sally Hansen polishes today. She wore those frosty pink or beige shades. I rather like my nails polished and I love Sally Hansen polishes but, that’s were the similarity between grandmother and granddaughter ends. I like this one!… DSCF0053 DSCF0049   The Satin Glam line has an array of different shades from wild to mild. The finish is a semi-matte and the texture is just a bit pebbly. But this shade, ‘Silk Onyx’, sets right on trend with 2014 nail wear… DSCF0051 DSCF0050 DSCF0052 The color you see in the bottle is nothing like what you find on the nail. I was expecting a midnight blue/galaxy-like color. But, I’m not disappointed with what transpired… DSCF0054 After a couple of days of tip wear, Satin Glam is holding on pretty tight. I have on three coats but no top coat. I tried out a top coat on the thumbnail to see if it would shine and it was a no-go. Silk Onyx ate that top coat in one big gulp. So it is totally meant to be a semi-matte finish. Removal wasn’t hard at all. I used Zoya’s Remove+ and it was easy. I have on a layer of clear soak-off gel to strengthen my nails as a base coat and it didn’t have any staining from this polish.

I got ‘Silk Onyx’ at Walgreen’s for $6. This week, Walgreens has them as a BOGO 1/2 price online. Have you tried any of the Satin Glam polishes?

Sally Hansen’s Sugar Coat Collection

Just like the crackle craze where every polish brand was jumping on board, we are seeing the same thing with textured polish. Some of them I am really loving. Sadly, Sally Hansen’s Sugar Coat is not in that camp…

Mega swatch day 332 Mega swatch day 334I am not a patient person. I will rush a polish to dry and it never dries fast enough for me, no matter what. Even if I manage to sit still I start getting itchy or, I have to use the bathroom. I know I’m not alone here!

My point is, that when I rush a polish to dry, I can end up making it look like this…

nail swatches 003Two coats and it isn’t appealing to me at all. It looks like I put the coats on too close together and got bubbles. It doesn’t look like a textured polish that is supposed to be ‘on purpose’. Nevertheless, here it is and I can’t give it my recommendation…

Mega swatch day 335I am happy that I only picked up three and I got them with a $1 coupon at Walgreens.

I need to know, do you like this collection?

Newest Sally Hansen Diamond Strength Collection 2013

The colors for both nail polishes and eye shadows have been so appealing this summer. I don’t think I have been this pleased with summer shades. When I saw the new Sally Hansen LE polish collection, I have to admit, it was the ‘LE’ that reeled me in. I managed to pick just 3…

Time To Start Looking Up At Walgreen’s; Holiday Stuff Spotted

I know Christmas is near when I see beauty products lining the very top shelves at Walgreens…

Looks like Sally Hansen is coming out with a nail sticker that is gel-like in the fact that you use a little LED light, sold separately, to have the sticker adhere to the nail.

A few Walgreens, I have found, already have some of the Winter Holiday beauty products out on endcaps…

These shadow palettes are in three different collections. It’s cool that the color of these are ‘winky eyes’…

Very difficult to capture in a photo. And, sort of creepy, too!

And these will remind you of a very famous, and obviously duplicated, naked-colored palette…

It seems that prices haven’t changed too much from last year on these no-name brands. However, it does seem like they are working hard to duplicate what is found, and popular, at the higher-end makeup counters.

I even spied some more Revlon’s Moon Candy polishes…

I’m sure the nail stickers and regular polishes could have been new too. I just honed in on the Moon Candy collection as I am ‘star-struck’ over them. I got two new ones to add to my collection: Meteor and Eclipse. Those lovelies will be swatched and showing up soon.

Besides the Sally Hansen gel stickers, I haven’t seen any name brand products on the high shelves yet. Have you been checking your high shelves at Walgreens yet? What are you seeing?

China Glaze’s Prey Tell: A Halloween Brew

Here’s a mixing of a witch’s brew…

China Glaze’s ‘Prey Tell’ which is a dark brick red…

And, add to that a wicked orange glitter; a swipe of Sally Hansen’s ‘Pumpkin Spice’…

And you can create a fun concoction for Halloween…

Three coats of ‘Prey Tell’ and two coats for the accent of ‘Pumpkin Spice’, all topped off with Lumos Top Coat.

I Spy…Revlon PhotoReady Palettes & Sally Hansen Winter Holiday Nail Strips

Talk about a double-edged sword! As a merchandiser, I work in retail stores. Not just one but many. And, while I adore being able to find new stuff, it also makes it hard to not purchase that stuff. Today I managed to keep my pocketbook in my car.

But, I did spy some cool things. This Revlon display caught my eye and I hadn’t even started looking! I was merchandising my products, which so happen to be right by the Harmon Department at a Christmas Tree Shops…

My cell phone camera doesn’t pick up the richness of the colors. However, except for a compelling packaging, I am sure I have dupes of these shades in my hundreds of shadow palettes and mineral shadows, at home. That’s how I reason with myself to not make a purchase. I am, actually, saving up for the Makeup Show next month.

My car went by Walgreens on the way home. I had to check to see what they had that I could possibly pass up. Yes, I was torturing myself…

Good heavens! Halloween is 4 weeks away and I spied Christmas nail strips. Sigh. Well, these are cute. I’m just not ready to start wearing Winter holiday stuff yet.

The elf Disney Villain palettes have been very successful. I reviewed all three on different posts:

Cruella Palette

Evil Queen Palette

Maleficent Palette

Now I find some simply horrid candy to go along with them. There are two more female villains to menace you. Seriously, I think that is poisonous candy. Yuck!!!…

I’m still good at keeping my dollars in my pocket. But I’m chomping at the bit for the Makeup Show to get here November 3 and 4.

Lustre Shine Collection by Sally Hansen

The new Sally Hansen Lustre Shin polishes were ones I knew I’d have to have. These are excellent examples of duochrome and multichrome polishes.  I saw them on PR releases, even though the pictures were actually computer renditions, I, still, sort of knew they’d be special.

I think I’m right…

I kept it to 4 out of the 6 in the collection. The first swatch, the glitter teal, is NOT part of this collection (sorry!). The orange is Lava, then Scarab, Plume and Moonstone.

As a beauty blogger, my stash of nail polishes grows by leaps and bounds. And I have a considerable amount of unswatched polishes. Even though it can be tough, I’m working on only purchasing those that are not duplicates of something I already own.

And then, I think the price of $8.50 is steep for any Sally Hansen polish. I did have $1 off coupons and that helps. However, I think these shades are awesome; don’t get me wrong. My expectations are that drugstore polishes shouldn’t be more than $7.00.

Regardless, I spent the money and, am happy to have these to add to my hoards collection.

It’s not unusual for the first coat of nail polishes to be thin. And these were, definitely, no exception. I’ve learned not to cause myself alarm thinking I’ve wasted my money on crappy polishes. The swatches, below, are all 3 coats and no top coat.

This is ‘Lava’, a blazingly brilliant orange with a flash of copper…

‘Plume’ is my favorite of the group. I do have several polishes that are so similar to this. Yet, I can’t resist the bronze and green flashes that remind me of a dragonfly’s eye…

Here is ‘Scarab’. I think ‘Plume’ should be named ‘Scarab’ and, vice versa…

And, my second favorite, ‘Moonstone’ that is anything but just a white polish…

I used to have a Toyota Celica this color!

Any way you turn these polishes, there is complexity to the shades as the light plays on them. The shades do work with transitioning into Fall and, the jewel-tones that this season is known for.

Do you have a favorite one? Or, could you not decide and get them all?
