My New Favorite Red Shimmer: Finger Paints Hollydazzle

Finger Paints made a Christmas/Holiday red that is off the charts! My camera just could not deal with it. But, I tried…

notd poop lots of swatches haul 002 notd poop lots of swatches haul 023The above photo is in the sunny kitchen. It gives the best look at the true red shade and still shows the shimmers. And those shimmers look gold, magenta and red to me. I mean CHOCK full of shimmer!!!

notd poop lots of swatches haul 008 notd poop lots of swatches haul 006This is only 2 coats with a top coat of Color Club’s Eco Top Coat. I found this polish super easy to apply.  I still have this polish on, it’s been 3 full days and I don’t even show tip wear. I could possibly wear this all the way to Christmas.

‘Hollydazzle’ has just become my new, favorite red shimmer polish. Do you have a favorite red?

Sinful Colors: Luminary Just In Time For Halloween

This is a persnickety polish!…

This Sinful Colors polish is named ‘Luminary’. And, if you like orange, you’ll like this orange sherbert sparkle. I thought it would be cute for Halloween…

I don’t seem to have the skills to get orange with shimmers to apply well. I restarted this manicure twice before I got it to layer down evenly and not throw patches at me. But, because I like this color so much, I persevered…

The shimmer in ‘Luminary’ goes from magenta to just white. But, it gives this orange some character that a pastel orange lacks.

As I mentioned, I had to really work to get this Sinful Colors polish to do its job for me. It is on the sheer side and it kept getting patchy. So, I have four coats on, with the fourth one being rather thick. Since I did that, I didn’t put on a top coat. If I did, it would have taken way too long to dry.

Do you think this makes a good Halloween color or, should I save it for Easter?

Maybelline New York Fall 2012 Polish: Downtown Brown

Holy Whip It…Good!

It would be a huge surprise to me if my beauty blog is the only one you read. Heavens, I read at least 50 from time to time, myself. I’m a blogger but I’m more of a blogger reader. So, I have seen this gorgeous Fall polish alllll over the blogs…

A fancy-smancy ‘Downtown Brown’ from Maybelline. Coming from their Fall 2012 collection, I didn’t dally around trying to decide if I wanted this one. I grabbed it!

This is two coats and I didn’t even take the time to put a top coat on it. I loved how easy this Maybelline polish applied.

Not quite as light as milk chocolate but the green shimmer makes this one full of mystery!!…

The color in the bottle transferred to the nail very well. I don’t have to hunt for that green shimmer to show.

I still have nubby nails but they are growing fast and they feel strong too. ‘Downtown Brown’, however, continues to make me focus on my nails because that color is just BOSS! This is, so far, my favorite Fall shade.

I found this display at Walgreens and it was $4.99. I have seen this in several other Walgreens and Bed, Bath and Beyond, so I don’t think it is too difficult, at this time, to find.

Are you going to get it?

China Glaze: Blue Year’s Eve To Chase Away My Blues

Today is Grandparents Day and I have been thinking about my own Grandparents all day. They are all gone and I miss them very much. I was lucky to have grown up in the same, small town they lived in. They were instrumental in giving me the happiest childhood memories.

Speaking of blue, I was rummaging through my stash and found this beauty…

China Glaze’s ‘Blue Year’s Eve’ is quite a blue. Check out that far left side of the bottle and you can see the faintest hint of the pink shimmer.

About 14 years ago, I had a roommate that spent almost every day at the beach. She wasn’t into much girly-girl stuff but she always had her toes painted. She used a blue polish very similar to this one. And that’s what got me started wearing fancy, fun colors on my toes. I decided then that wearing ‘odd’ colors, as I thought of them at the time, on my toes was safe.

However, today I am sporting them on my fingers…

I have on three coats with no top coat. The first coat was super sheer and looked turquoise. A couple more coats and this became a blazing sapphire. Cool how a blue nail polish can help soften the blues of the soul.

elf Cosmetics: Shimmering Palette

A new store opened in the Orlando area called ‘Christmas Tree Shops’. This is a chain that is owned by Bed, Bath and Beyond. There are a lot of Christmas Tree Shops up North and I know they are in the Dallas area too. But, this is the first one in Florida. And it has a Harmon Department. Not all Christmas Tree Shops, or BB&B, have a Harmon Department. That is the makeup, hair care, skin care, nails, razors, body products, etc. department. I’m fortunate enough to have a BB&B and this new Christmas Tree Shops close to my home and they both have a Harmon Department.

There’s an elf display tower at the Christmas Tree Shops. (Yes, it is ‘Shops’, plural). I have gotten quite a few goodies from this tower. Hey, I get to play with some makeup and none of it is over $3. Take this shimmer palette…

When I got this I was thinking lips, brow bones, and tops of cheeks…

Simple enough, right? Well, it IS that simple. And there is a tiny little brush that came with it. It works best for placing a shimmer right in the middle of the lips…

I swatched them out so you can see that they do have very noticeable shimmer…

And, as much as I wanted this to work, it doesn’t have much lasting power…

When I used these shimmers on my brow bones, the tops of my cheeks and on my lips, the only one that lasted over an hour was when I used it on my lips. I used it over a matte lipstick and that worked the best of all. I considered patting on some powder to keep it in place, but when I did that, it took away the shimmer.

Until I can find something that these shimmers can adhere to and still be shimmery on my face, I’m just using this for my lips right now. Anyone got any good suggestions?

If you want something permanent, I’d suggest a tattoo. But, you need to have the body for one…

Nabi Cosmetics: Eye Shadows

Nabi doesn’t just make nail polish, like the ones I reviewed here. They also make shadows. A lot of different color shadows. And they are very inexpensive. I got these two for something like 2 for $3…

I only purchased these two because I wasn’t quite sure how well they would apply. They had samples out but I didn’t trust them. However, these are as soft. But, they are also full of fall-out. I’ll come back to that in a moment.

This is ‘Coco Bean’…

And here is ‘Chocolate’…

Hungry yet? Swatched out..

‘Coco Bean’ is on the left. It has a slight gold shimmer too. ‘Chocolate’ is on the taupe-y side and has that shimmer of mauve/purple in it. I noticed it more in direct sunlight than here, in the sunny window.

Here’s my verdict: if you like to experiment with different shadows like me, it’s a very inexpensive investment. When I used my new Sephora airbrush shadow brushes, I didn’t get the fall-out I did just swatching these two with my finger. The two shades blend very well together and do play nice with other brands. Will I get more? Yes. I want to try out some of the strong, bold colors that they have. The vanity says yes, go play!

Again, I got these at a store called Rainbow at The Florida Mall. There is another Rainbow store in another mall, but it didn’t have makeup.

Does an investment this cheap make you want to just try it out?

Zoya’s Beach And Surf Collection: Zuza And Arizona

Zoya nail polishes were unknown to me before I became a beauty blogger. Before blogging, I didn’t stretch out much, at all, with the close circle of brands I used. Once I started blogging, however, I was reading more and more about Zoya. The many favorable reviews I read got me interested, and I had to see for myself. I found the comments to be true; Zoya polishes are that good.

The newest collection, Beach and Surf, have awesome summer of 2012 shades. I picked two that I thought were the most summer-y to me. Here’s what I chose for my fingernails…

This one is named ‘Arizona’. What an orange creamsicle color! When I put my fingers up to my ears, I hear this color screaming ‘SUMMER’!!

Applying cremes are such a challenge for me. It is about as illusive as trying to do a chin-up. But, getting this creme to look nice was easier than usual because Zoya has such a wonderful formula…

I applied three coats and topped it off with Seche Vite. ‘Arizona’ is almost a matte on me. Even the Seche didn’t seem to help it get to a high shine. But there is no denying that this creamsicle reminds me of a hot, hot day.

I have had just a couple of opportunities to wear sandals over the past month. I’m not really a ‘sandal person’. It’s not that I have something against showing my feet, it’s just that my work doesn’t allow toes to show. So when I can wear them, I want to have on the cutest polishes. ‘Zuza’ fit the calling this time…

I like my toes to twinkle. And I love wearing those ‘different’ colors as a pedicure. Maybe because it used to be a safe place to wear polishes that I wouldn’t wear on my fingers. Well, I’m easily over that now but, I have a special place in my heart for blue on my toes.

‘Zuza’ is that special…

This shade is a silver-sparkly teal shade that reminds me of the waters off a tropical island. That’s pretty summer-y. And, ‘Zuza’ is the type of turquoise that can look good on almost all skin tones. I’m not a lover of turquoise at all! But, when it’s made up like ‘Zuza’, I can get into that one.

You can find Zoya polishes at Ulta and on Zoya’s website. I usually order from the website because Zoya has some of the best specials. I got 3 for $15 from the last special. And their shipping time is very good.

What are your summer favorites from Zoya?

China Glaze’s Safari Collection: Jungle Queen

I think ‘Jungle Queen’ is going to be the one that breaks from the pack from this collection. It’s more than just saucy, it’s sultry…

‘Jungle Queen’ is a purple-ized brown. I just made that up but that’s what I’m calling it. There is a shimmer of magenta too. So that totally freaks out the naming of this color. And I’m not going to worry about it because I’d rather just admire the polish…

I’m delightfully amazed that this shade shows pretty well considering it has been almost 2 weeks since we have seen the sun in, er, sunny Florida.

I have on three coats and that is one too many. I wasn’t giving enough time between coats so some of the nails are not as smooth as they could be. So, don’t blame the polish; it’s doing its job of looking stunning and ritzy…

Sultry is the perfect shade to wear for the Hades most of the country is in. My remedy: stay indoors, drink lots of water and paint your nails.

I used Lumos base and top coat for this mani. I’m going to do a blog on these yet. I want to convert you to Lumos over Seche Vite!!

I played around with this polish with some glitter. Wait til you see that!

Did you pick up ‘Jungle Queen’? Is it your favorite from the Safari collection?
