M Steves Skin Care Products

It was planned to put these products in the monthlyReject or Repurchase post. However, I felt that these two can stand alone in their own review.

These are two products that I was sent by M Steves. I received them late, last Summer. However, once you read through my review, you’ll see why I never got around to using them up…at least, right away.

I received the Multi-Benefit Moisturizer and the Ultra-Nourishing Boost…

I’ll start with the Ultra-Nourishing Boost. That this the product on the right in the above photo. It is made from rose-hip seed oil. Rose-hip seed oil doesn’t smell like roses, that’s for sure. I knew that even before I received these products. Rose-hip seed oil is the foundation of these products. And, per my conversation with the creator, M Steves, this is what she created to heal her cystic acne when everything else failed.

Granted, I do not have acne but, she said that it was nourishing for all skin types. When I received it, naturally, I tested it out immediately on the back of my hand. Then I smelled it. That’s where the love left me. I found this difficult to put on my face as the smell reminded me of the linseed oil I used to clean my oil paint brushes. Even though I tried to use it several times on my face, the smell didn’t dissipate. I figured that a skincare product would never smell like that and, surely, I got a bad one.

I called Ms. Steves to tell her. She told me that it isn’t supposed to smell like roses and that some folks do find the smell to be on the strong side. But, she said it was possible that I received one that could have sat on a shipping truck in the heat. So, she sent me another one. Unfortunately, it smelled the same as the first one.

I set the Ultra-Nourishing Boost to the side and never used it again. There’s no way I can get past the repugnant odor. And, it didn’t go away after hours of being on my skin.

There is a recommended way of using the Ultra-Nourishing Boost along with the Multi-Benefit Moisturizer. But, I skipped doing that after day 2 and went straight to using the moisturizer.

This product didn’t have quite enough moisturizing elements to make my skin feel hydrated. This would be a product I’d recommend for someone with slightly to mostly oily skin. I have normal to dry skin. Luckily, this product had a pleasant, light orange fragrance.

I wash my face first thing in the morning and then put on a moisturizer. I used the Multi-Benefit Moisturizer because, after I have a cup of tea, I workout. Then I take a shower. After that, that is when I use my complete skin care routine. In other words, I use that first moisturizer of the day to get me through until I shower. It isn’t one that needs to get me through the entire day.

Thus, after several months, I finally did use up the moisturizer…

The Ultra-Nourishing Boost costs $68. The Multi-Benefit Moisturizer sells for $48.

Setting aside the fact that I found the Ultra-Nourishing Boost to smell terrible, these products would be better suited for someone with oily to oily/normal skin. As for my opinion, these two items are not for me and, I can’t recommend the Ultra-Nourishing Boost as I feel most users would be highly put off by the odor.

Have you tried this brand? Have you used rose hip seed oil?

Mask Monday: Forever 21 Snail Mask Sheet

When I saw this at Forever 21, I HAD to give it a try…

snail mask 1

I have read that it’s quite trendy in Korea to use facial products that contain snail slime. Supposedly, it refreshes and rejuvenates the skin….

snail mask 3

Luckily, I don’t have an aversion to snails. Heck, I have even had snails as pets. They are quiet, clean and pretty neat to watch. However, I never let them crawl on my face. Maybe I was missing out all this time!…

snail mask 2

This was an inexpensive risk and, I was game…

snail mask 6

Really, it was only a buck. So, I’ll jump to the ending…I wish I would have picked up several more…

snail mask 4

My biggest worry was that the mask was going to smell terrible or weird. Nope. It didn’t smell at all…

snail mask a

This was a paper mask that I contoured to my face. I put it on, set my timer on my phone for 20 minutes and, kicked back…

snail mask d

Yes, it is frightful to look at. But, it felt like any other paper mask. It was cooling, very moisturizing and, I didn’t even feel the need to put on any moisturizer after I took the mask off. I just rubbed in the remaining slime…oh, I mean product onto my skin.

Seriously, this was better than I expected it to be. It is, definitely, something I would do on a weekly basis. If it would have been labeled ‘best collagen mask ever’, you would have never known it had snail slime in it.

Have you tried any product containing snail slime? Would you give it a go?

CeraVe Moisturizers and A Long Story On How I Came To Use Them

I have changed up my skincare routine for the past 6 weeks. When I am not reviewing or testing a skincare product, I use Kiehl’s. That’s my very favorite skincare. However, two things happened to detour me; one, after seeing an advertisement online about CeraVe, I went to their site and ending up getting a $3 off coupon. And, two; I have gone from running on the treadmill to running outdoors now that the weather has turned warmer.

If I step WAY back to the beginning of my introduction to CeraVe, it would be attending a Women’s Show when I lived in Virginia. Walgreen’s had a booth and I received samples for both the AM and PM moisturizing lotions by CeraVe. I didn’t use them right away because I was taken back by the high SPF number and, my past experience was that those types of lotions smelled weird and didn’t absorb well into the skin. Eventually, I tried out the samples and my past prejudices faded.

CeraVe doesn’t have a weird smell, in fact, there’s barely any smell to it at all. And, these lotions truly did moisturize my skin. I used a coupon that I picked up at the Walgreen’s booth and purchased the AM lotion with SPF 30. I moved to Florida and used this whenever I knew I’d be outside for an extended period of time. Then I started running and wanted something that was sweat proof. I purchased the CeraVe Sunscreen with SPF 50.

Jump forward again and, I now live in Colorado. I noticed that the back of my hands were starting to get dark spots. Oh, no!!! I read that folks that do a lot of driving expose their hands to lots of sunlight and the windshield doesn’t give enough protection. Since I had moved on to using Kiehl’s, the CeraVe AM lotion was moved to the console of my car. I applied it to the back of my hands every time for a drive.

Now you’re caught up! I got the new coupon and went to purchase CeraVe’s Sunscreen SPF 50 for outside activities. I couldn’t find it and just figured they had eliminated it so, I picked up the PM lotion instead. As I browsed, I discovered that the CeraVe Sunscreen was in with all the sun products and not inline with the rest of the CeraVe. So, I ended up with both because, it was buy one CeraVe, get the other one 1/2 off and, I had a coupon! Win/win!

This is the AM lotion…

cerave 16

I’m a little over half way done with this. This moisturizer might be a bit too heavy for those that have super oily skin. However, I’d recommend no less than an SPF 30 for every day use…please! Even if it’s not this brand.

cerave 18

Since I already had the AM lotion for some time, I don’t have the box with the list of full ingredients…

When I go out for my morning run, I use the SPF 50…

cerave crop 4This one is oil-free and water (sweat) resistant. I put it on my arms, neck, ears and exposed parts of my chest as well. This product will change your mind about using a zinc lotion; I love it! Best of all, no funky weird smell!! It says light-weight but, I wouldn’t use that description. It does absorbs in easily…

New to the Vanity fold is CeraVe PM lotion…

This has a lighter formula than the other two. Nary an odor but my skin feels super smooth using this lotion…

The AM and PM lotions have a pump dispenser…

Phew! If you made it this far, I bet you can tell that I love these three CeraVe products. I will admit that I got a couple of pimples when I first started using all three, 6 weeks ago. I don’t know which one would be the cause or, if it was just a fluke. My skin has adjusted just fine, either way.

As I mentioned, I picked these up at Walgreen’s or you can find them at large mass merchandisers and Ulta. CeraVe’s website is currently showing a $2 off coupon and, you can read more about their products as well. I think I’ll get that coupon and try their new eye cream.

Which CeraVe product have you used? Did you like it?

PMD: Personal Microderm System

Keeping your skin healthy all year-round is key to having a great complexion. However, if you are putting on moisturizers, serums and balms on top of layers of dead skin, you are wasting your money and your time!

Exfoliating is super important. By removing that dead layer of skin at the surface, your skincare products will penetrate into fresh skin layers and really do their job. My favorite way of exfoliating, and I mean, truly removing the flaky skin at the surface, is with my Personal Microderm or, PMD, an at-home microdermabrasion system…

I love the convenience of using my PMD in my own home. I don’t have the hassle of making any appointments or deal with the expense of a spa. I use my PMD once a week. However, it only takes one treatment to notice a HUGE difference! You know that term ‘soft as a baby’s behind’? That’s how your skin will feel after using the PMD, EVERY TIME! So, instead of just softening the dead, flaky skin, you are revealing the new skin underneath that is primed to drink in your favorite moisturizer and reveal smooth and soft skin while buffing away fine lines and cleaning out pores.

With the PMD set, you get 7 planers. These are the sanding pads that gently remove the dead, dull skin. I start off using the practice disc as it is the most gentle and it does everything I need it to do. There are larger discs for larger areas such as your heels and elbows and, discs with heavier grit.

While you stroke the PMD across your dry skin, the head is actually vacuuming up the flaky skin. I like this for two reasons: One is that there is no dust flying around while I am using it and two, this vacuuming action also stimulates the skin which promotes more blood flow and creates healthier skin.

Using a microdermabrasion system can be very intimidating at first. I am glad that the company thought to include a DVD in the system to take you step-by-step through the process. After one use, you’ll see how easy it is and look forward to creating your own results right in your own home. Besides having immediate results, I like getting the full effort of my skincare products.

DSCF0014 DSCF0017

This isn’t something you can breeze through without looking in the mirror, I should mention. This is a serious treatment and you want to create the best outcome so, don’t get in a hurry. Enjoy the process as it is quite soothing. The PMD has a loud hum to it and it changes when you have created a successful vacuum as you plane across your skin. Start off with clean, dry skin and being planing on the smoother, flatter surfaces of your face, like right under the puffy part of your cheeks. Once you get accustomed to the upward motions, you can start working around your nose and by the chin area. I can get very flaky in the inner crease of my nose area and it’s very gratifying to microderm this area and see those flakes disappear.

The PMD plugs into an outlet, with a rather long cord and, maintenance of the unit itself is very simple. For the cost of just one spa microdermabrasion treatment, you can own the PMD for life. Right now, they have a 10% discount, store-wide, at their site. I totally recommend you get one and start your New Year with New Skin!

This product was sent to me for review. These are my own, honest opinions and results.#pmd #personalmicroderm  @pmdpersonalmicroderm

Eclos: Moisture Therapy Regenerative Cream

One of my favorite skincare brands is one that doesn’t get a lot of promotion. I have only seen a small ad of Eclos by Freeman Beauty only once. I’m very happy that I stumbled across it. I bought a sample pack of Eclos almost 2 years ago and have been in love with it since. Here is Moisture Therapy Regenerative Cream, full-size, that I just finished up…

Eclos proclaims a lot of healthy skin benefits. What I know for sure is that my skin loves this stuff. A medium-weight moisturizer with only a slight herbal smell, I use Regenerative Cream as a morning moisturizer. Without tightening my skin, I can feel this cream soaking into my skin and softening my fine lines.

I’m very impressed with the list of ingredients in this moisturizer as most of them are from plants I know…

DSCF0006Combined in a high-potency product, the focus of Regenerative Cream is to not only slow down the aging but also keep skin from sagging, brighten it and hydrating it as well. I can recommend this moisturizer to my sensitive skin friends because, just as important as what is in it, is what it doesn’t have. Check out the list below…

I purchase my Eclos products at Walgreens however, you can purchase them online and at Ulta.

I’m sorry I didn’t get a photo of the actual cream itself. Have you tried any Eclos products?

From Sample to Sell: L’Oreal’s Miracle Blur

I’m not alone, am I, with loving the small samples of skin care products that come in beauty magazines? Since becoming a beauty blogger, I don’t just try them out and say ‘well, that’s nice’. I check it out as a research project. Really!

I went ahead and bought L’Oreal’s Revitalift Miracle Blur after using the sample…

Mega swatch day 133After reading the ad and then experiencing the sample, I was motivated to purchase Miracle Blur. Here are some of the reasons I found Miracle Blur to be of interest…

Mega swatch day 137We are working with an SPF 30 here. That’s my minimum level. I really wish I would have been more concerned about using an SPF when I was younger. But, I don’t think it was discovered yet!! Next reason…

Mega swatch day 134It says ‘erases the look’, it doesn’t hide it or cover it. The light-reflecting properties divert the light from the areas you apply this. Also note, it doesn’t say that it moisturizes the skin. You still need a moisturizer.

Here’s some info from the back as well as the ingredients…

Mega swatch day 135Even though those chemicals are hard to pronounce, they do work as a sunscreen. Do keep in mind that many of these ingredients can cause skin irritations more readily than other skin moisturizers. I suggest making your purchase of Miracle Blur at a store that allows returns so you don’t waste any money.

The texture of this product is…different. It’s one that is difficult to explain. The closest I can come to explaining it is that it reminds me of the left-over goo from the lotion dispenser’s tip. You know how it’s not smooth but just a bit sticky? Miracle Blur is close to that…

Mega swatch day 139But, it rubs in very smoothly…

Mega swatch day 141It has a bit of ‘slip’ to it and I found that my mineral foundation stayed in place very well. When I used a liquid foundation, it blended very smoothly. And on a few occasions, I wore the Miracle Blur alone. That’s rare and usually a day when I’m staying in. But, it is still important that I put an SPF on my skin. Especially since I am enjoying sitting outside in the evening facing West.

Have you tried Miracle Blur? Do you look forward to using the skin care samples from magazines?

Toss Or Trash: December 2012

During the Winter Holidays, I burned up as many Bath and Body Works candles as I could. Here are some that are done and I loved them all…

swatches toss notd 130Merry Mistletoe was a very soft fragrance; not bold at all. I found Sparkling Icicles to be the same way. But I enjoyed it. After I had burned these to the end, I set them on the floor by my bookcase. I see how dusty that place is!!

swatches toss notd 135I actually only had one Merry Mistletoe. It got another photo op here. And I loved all of these too. My house had the fragrance of Christmas, if nothing else.

Then, I used up quite a bit of hair products…

swatches toss notd 142Love me some Pantene! I stocked up, big time, when these there 75% at CVS almost 2 years ago. It was worth it. I got the Rock Your Hair hairspray this year at Premiere Orlando. It’s an awesome hairspray without being overly stiff. I have seen this line off and on at Ross Dress For Less. If I find it again, I will repurchase it.

The next two from Macadamia Natural Oil surprised me. I am just sort of OK on the hairspray. It only had a mild hold, it did smell good and my hair didn’t feel dried out from using it. However, it is rather expensive at around $23. And the cleansing conditioner, at almost $40, was a total waste, in my opinion. I didn’t get the soft hair I usually get when I use the leave-in oil treatments by Macadamia Natural Oil. And, this can was a hold down pump to dispense. It didn’t hold a lot of product. I won’t be repurchasing either of these two.

There wasn’t much in the way of makeup…

swatches toss notd 152Nailene’s Miracle Worker was sent to me for review. I loved it! But now, I can’t find anywhere to repurchase it! My nails are naturally thin and this treatment was one of the best I have ever used. The Ardell false eyelashes were just plum used up. These are my favorite stye too. They became too ragged to wear anymore. I’m on the lookout to replace this style. The Avon product is a cream concealer. I ran across this de-stashing my old stuff. I don’t think they make this anymore, as I have had this since the ’90’s. 😉 As you can tell, that green concealer hid a lot of red spots/areas on my face. I liked the consistency because it stayed put, period! Since I can’t truly remember how long I’ve had this, I am throwing it out.

The Lush Lip Scrub was good. I got one of those little desposible test spatulas to take out a bit of the product. Then, I took that little scoop of product into the shower and used it there. It was a lot less messy that way. As much as I loved this product, I feel I can find something just as good for half the price. I feel Lush’s prices to be way out of line for what they deliver. I found a lip scrub that has a lip balm in the cap by Victoria’s Secret for half the Lush price. If you don’t worry about money, this Lip Scrub is all that.

Last is Cellnique Renewal Serum. I reviewed this, initially, here. I loved it then and I love it even more now. This was a wonderful product to use. I used it both for my day and night time ritual. This, along with the Reversal Platinum Cream, are a top favorite skincare line for me. If I did not have other skincare products to review, these two are difinitely a set I would use continually. I’m sad to see this used up. And, just this week, I used up the Reversal Platinum Cream. Boo hoo.

Anything here that you have tried and liked?

Grand Opening of Kiehl’s Store in Orlando, FL

Kiehl’s skin and body care products has taken a front seat with me. I’m in love with these products. And it all started out with a sample. When I told Chris Salgrado, the President of Kiehl’s USA this, he stated that is why they hand out samples; it is the best way to let people know how Kiehl’s products work right away.

About a month ago, I spotted a stand-alone Kiehl’s store at the Mall of Millenia, Orlando, FL. Naturally, I went right to it. I found out that the store had just opened four days ago! The wonderful store manager, Dina, told me about their Grand Opening coming up and that Chris Salgrado would be attending as well as many of the NYC corporate personnel. I got a hold of my Beauty Blogger of Central Florida girlfriends and asked them to come along and make an event of it.

Chris Salgardo cuts the opening ribbon with Dina, Store Manager, at his right.

Kiehl’s was founded in 1851 by John Kiehl in New York City. Kiehl’s is a company rich in its history as well as giving to many charities. Their current charity is RxArt, a children’s healing charity…Artist, Kenny Scharf, designed the limited edition promotional products to contribute to this charity.

I got a chance to not only talk with many of the NYC Kiehl’s corporate staff, but also to actually talk with and ask questions with Chris…

I’m always up for a photo with a handsome man! But he really is a genuine and caring person. He was thrilled that just a few samples got me hooked on Kiehl’s products. I knew I would be adding to my collection at the event too. I will review those with you on a later post.

I love the old apothecary feel the stores still keep. They have a blend of old world with modern technology…

The men’s line is very extensive. Chris expressed special interest in getting the word out that men need to not only take care of their fine lines and wrinkles but to protect their skin from harmful sun rays. It’s no longer acceptable to not know that unprotected skin exposed to sun will cause cancer. Kiehl’s keeps in mind that men like their products to reflect their masculinity and address their skin needs that are, to some degree, different than women’s.

At the Grand Opening, Kiehl’s was providing one on one skin care advise and mini facials. Fellow beauty blogger, Nidia of Beauty Lit From Within blog, got a facial treat…

And my friend, Steph of Imperfectly Painted blog, shared the festivities…

I see she was loving the products too!…

The entire staff at Kiehl’s at Mall of Millenia, Orlando, FL, is gracious and knowledgeable. Do check out this store and, if you don’t live in Orlando, there are many stores to visit. However, you can shop online just as easy as clicking here. And, don’t forget to ask for your sample. You might just discover the best skincare you have ever tried.

About Kiehl’s Since 1851:

Kiehl’s was founded as an old-world apothecary in New York’s East Village neighborhood. After years as an ambitious apprentice, John Kiehl purchased the business and began operations under the Kiehl name, serving the burgeoning New York community with unique herbal remedies. In 1921, John Kiehl’s apprentice, Mr. Irving “Doc” Morse, purchased the business and expanded it to a full-service pharmacy, stocking medicines, tinctures, and the first Kiehl’s-branded products. Doc Morse, a pharmacist and herbologist, passed the business on to his son, Aaron, himself a chemist and avid motorcyclist and aviator. Aaron’s daughter, Jami, was raised at Kiehl’s amongst the “family” of employees, who together fostered a tradition of attentive, personalized service for every patron. Over the generations, the Morse family committed Kiehl’s to serving the community uniquely efficacious skin and hair formulations made with the finest natural ingredients in the apothecary tradition.

Bellapierre: Exfoliating Facial Peel

Two weeks ago, I got a chance to fly out to Vegas and attend the Cosmoprof NA show. I saw so many products and received tons of PR releases and got to see awesome beauty bloggers that the entire weekend is a blur. I haven’t done the ‘official’ post to attending yet. I’m still going over it in my mind and keeping it as a personal experience right now. But, I will be sharing photos and highlights very soon.

On that thought, there were a few products I got to see that blew me away. This review is on one of those products.

Bellapierre is a cosmetic line that has both skincare and makeup. Their booth was very chic. And Rom Silves was our international host as he explained the skincare products as well as the beauty of their mineral makeup line.

After demonstrating the ‘Exfoliating Facial Peel’, I knew this was something I had to get…

This peel has no smell and looks like an innocent gel. But, it is very powerful and does a spa-worthy job on getting rid of dead skin.

This is just a tiny bit that I placed onto my arm…

Even though the product is smooth just like a gel, the moment I put it on my skin, the dead skin cells started to lift. And as I rubbed the peel into my skin, even more cells were being removed…

And after this area was rubbed firmly, this is the smooth skin that was revealing…

Even though I have not wiped off the debris, you can see exactly where I rubbed the peel in and where the smooth skin appears. Magic, I tell ya!!! Now, imagine using this on your face. The first place I thought of was how this is going to feel after I rub this on my nose! And I was NOT disappointed.

Rom said something that really made ‘Exfoliating Facial Peel’ special: He said that this peel was gentle enough to use around the eye area. Most products state to keep away from the eye area because they do not want you to get it actually in your eye. And, the packaging of the peel says the same thing. However, Rom said that with care, this is going to work wonders around the eye area. And, as soon as I could, I gave this a try at home. He was not exaggerating and neither am I. This works in an unbelievable way and I have the softest, smoothest skin I have ever had in many years.

You can order this from their website, or Rom stated that they are opening, or have opened, stores around the world. He told me that they had just opened a new store in Miami. I was quick to ask him to come to Orlando and open a store!

The list price for Bellapierre Cosmetics ‘Exfoliating Facial Peel’ is $80. Do keep in mind that this product is that of spa-quality. Even though this peel is safe enough to use up to three times a week, I feel I can use it once per week, get awesome results and make this jar last at least 6 months. If I use 2 jars per year, that is still less expensive than one spa facial.
