elf: Disney Princess Belle Eye Shadow Palette

A couple of months ago, Walgreen’s presented more Disney princess makeup and accessories. I have continued to collect the makeup story books and, purchasing this one was a given, as well…

belle palette 1

This palette is by elf and it celebrates Belle from the Beauty and the Beast movie.

This is quite the neutral palette. But, there are enough shades to create a light, neutral look all the way into a smoldering, smoky eye…

belle palette 3

I think swatching makeup is the thing I love most about blogging…

belle palette 6

I did use a swab for the swatching over a light application of eye shadow primer. I found all the shadows to really ‘pop’ with the primer. This palette is from elf so, there is a bit of fall-out but, they didn’t crumble away and, the pay out makes it worthwhile. In my opinion!

You can’t get more simple with these directions…

belle palette 2

For days when I want a close to no makeup look, these are some of the best colors to use…

If I remember correctly, I got this for around $5. What do you think? Are these not great Summer to Fall transition shades?

Facial Wipe Wednesday: Wet N Wild Under The Sheets

This edition of Facial Wipe Wednesday covers Wet N Wild’s Facial Wipes called Under The Sheets. I have been wanting to try these for some time but, I continued to select other brands before them. This time when I saw them in the store, I went for it…

WNW Wipe 1

The packaging is the standard plastic one with a resealable plastic flap. I am disappointed to find that the package only contains 25 towelettes…

WNW Wipe 2

But, I am happy to purchase a product made in the USA. Although Wet N Wild states that these are for sensitive skin, I’m starting to feel that statement just doesn’t hold water with me or, with my readers. I implore you to read the ingredient list rather than believe that blanket and, somewhat useless nondescript statement. Here are the ingredients…

WNW Wipe 4

Here’s a bit more about the product from the package…

WNW Wipe 3

I found these sheets to be soft but not supremely soft. As long as the wipes aren’t scratchy or irritating, I’m OK. What these wipes did do was remove…wait for it….WATERPROOF MASCARA. Yes, it’s actually true. I have three different brands I experimented with and, I tested it over and over because I was sure I had done something wrong. There was a bit of scrubbing needed but, I didn’t feel I needed to use my ‘sanding a piece of wood’ mode.

The towelette is regular size, if not a wee bit smaller than most…

WNW Wipe 8

And there isn’t much of a texture to it, however, it is soft. Just not ‘baby soft’…

WNW Wipe 9

There is a very slight fragrance to it. The smell reminds me of a nice aerosol hairspray. I would guess that is the alcohol. It wasn’t unpleasant one bit. And, the fragrance didn’t linger much.

As with all Wet N Wild products, these wipes are cruelty-free…

WNW Wipe 6

There are directions on how to use the wipes. Don’t flush these either. (Now I wonder what the difference is between facial wipes that shouldn’t be flushed and personal wipes that CAN be flushed. I smell research and a blog post.)…

WNW Wipe 7

I picked these up at Target for $3. That makes me more forgiving about there only being 25 sheets to a package. And, although they are inexpensive, they do their job and, they do it well. I did still get some residue with following up with a toner. But, I didn’t need an extra product to remove waterproof mascara and that’s the win.

I know lots of readers love Wet N Wild brand. Have you tried their wipes? What’s your opinion on them?

Wet ‘n Wild: Silver Lake Eye Shadow Collection

Wet ‘n Wild slipped in under my radar with the new, limited edition Silver Lake collection. I strolled into one of my local Walgreen’s and found this surprise…

Hipster WnW Collection at Wags

I picked up all five of them before I realized I didn’t take a photo! So, I placed them back, snapped a photo and reclaimed my good fortune!

There wasn’t even the slightest bit of hesitation in acquiring all five of these colorful 6-pan palettes…

Hipster WnW collection

As usual, I use a Q-tip to swatch the shadows on my forearm. I have done it over a shadow primer, as well…

Thrift Store Collage 2 Embrace Collage California Roll Collage Vinyl Collage Vegan Collage

Most of these shadows are shimmery. There are a few mattes that are sublime. In Thrift Store Chic, the middle right side is a semi-matte light peach. In Embrace Obscurity, there are two mattes and they are the two middle shadows. California Roll has two mattes, as well, which are the right side shadows in the middle and bottom row. Vinyl Collection has one matte that is in the upper left-hand corner.

There is a slight over-spray of sparkle on some of these shadows and, if you look closely, you can tell which ones they are. (Curses to you, Wet ‘n Wild, for trying to trick us!) Even still, once past the over-spray, the colors are gorgeous and rich. I found Thrift Store Chic to be the lightest in coverage however, I was still able to achieve a bright and vivid eye look with this palette. As usual, there are several shadows that have some fall-out but, I’m able to flick those crumblies away with a whisky makeup brush.

I picked up the Silver Lake collection at Walgreens and I didn’t even bother to wait for a BOGO 1/2 off sale, which they have quite often. There was no way I wanted to miss out on these. Oftentimes, Spring collections are soft pastels which make me look very washed-out. So, you can imagine my joy seeing that Wet ‘n Wild not only surprising me with this collection but also with bold and vivid colors.

Have you found this collection yet?

Holiday 2014 Wet N Wild Fergie Beauty University Palette

I purchased the new Wet N Wild Fergie Beauty University palette, a Walgreen’s exclusive last week. Since I liked the one that came out last year so much, and this year’s had more shadows and lip glosses, I thought for sure this was going to be a winner. Last year’s palette was $20. This year’s is $30…

DSCF0032 DSCF0033 DSCF0034

First off, the footprint of this palette is larger than last years. In fact, I found it not only oddly-shaped but also, it was rather difficult to open up the first time…

DSCF0035 DSCF0036

It was difficult getting the top open. The entire box feels cheaply made and I was considered I was going to break it before I even managed to get it open…

DSCF0037

Next, the sides pull out to reveal the lip glosses and glitters…

DSCF0043

DSCF0042

I felt that the gray/black shadows had very little variance. Usually, when they are sitting in the pan right next to each other, you can see a color difference. But, I couldn’t and in the swatches, there’s none whatsoever…

DSCF0050

DSCF0051

It looks like only four, maybe five, different color swatches but this is the entire bottom row of shadows.

I did random swatches and felt that most were fairly well pigmented, but most of them were super crumbly and it seemed like a lot of waste was being created. I swatched a few of the glitters and as with most Wet ‘n Wild cream shadows, or lip glosses if I were to use them for that, are practically impossible to apply…

DSCF0054 DSCF0053

After the shadow swatches, I did some gloss swatching. I found that all but a few were super sheer and these wouldn’t have put a lot of pigment on my lips. Several of them are colorless even on my fair skin…

DSCF0060

The most disappointing thing I ran across was that just after dabbing my lip brush twice into the glosses, I was hitting pan. So one, these pans didn’t have a lot of product and two, the glosses were so runny that I knew they wouldn’t stay on my lips but for only a short time before migrating either completely off my lips or, on my face around my mouth…

DSCF0058

And while the color range is pretty and there are a lot of choices…

DSCF0049 DSCF0048 DSCF0047 DSCF0046 DSCF0042 DSCF0039 DSCF0038

The quality is not worth it in my opinion. For $30, I can go get a better quality palette, albeit with less number of shadows, at Ulta or a department store, for close to the same amount or, for just a few more dollars. In fact, I’d recommend the Profusion or L.A. Color palettes I have previously reviewed over this one.  I know I wouldn’t face the profound disappointment I have with this year’s Wet ‘n Wild Fergie Holiday palette.

Have you seen this display up at your local Walgreens? Have you or, do you plan on purchasing this?

Wet ‘N Wild’s Perfect Pair: Passion Plum

I got a chance, last week, to make a trip to KMart. They don’t have any Kmart stores South of downtown Denver, which is where I live. And, it’s a bit of a haul to go there now.  I haven’t been shopping at a KMart in over a year, so I was excited to check everything out. After spending (quite) some time checking out the clothing department, I made my way to the makeup.

Besides getting several elf products that I have only found at KMart, I did pick up this Wet ‘n Wild duo lip product…

DSCF0029 DSCF0032

Wet ‘n Wild’s Perfect Pair is a lip liner and lipstick all in one. That eliminates me needing to dig in a separate organizer to find a matching liner to work with the lipstick choice of the day. So, I’m saving precious morning moments, right there.

This all-in-one is called ‘Passion Plum’.  Or, as it is numbered at the bottom of the liner cap ‘123’. I couldn’t find the name on the package, itself. But it was on the safety wrap…

DSCF0030 DSCF0033

This two-in-one doesn’t need sharpening so, I can throw it in my purse and leave it in there forever…

DSCF0034 DSCF0035

We are, finally, getting into the hot season for Colorado. Yep, it’s over 80 degrees! But, it feels like 74 degrees to me after 4 Summers in Orlando. I mean, THIS is what Summers are SUPPOSED to feel likeahhhhhh!!! Nevertheless, I may pare back my eye and face makeup during the hot days, but I can still pull off a pretty look with a lipstick that takes all the attention. And ‘Passion Plum’ makes it so effortless!…

DSCF0036 WNW lip swatch

Both the liner and the lipstick glide on without a bit of tugging. I do use a lip primer (for this swatch, it’s elf’s) and got hours of wear. No migration of color either. The lipstick isn’t tacky or drying. In fact, I found it to be very moisturizing which is something my lips need.

This isn’t the first time I have purchased Wet ‘N Wild’s Perfect Pair lipstick. I have three of their other colors so I knew that this one was going to be a champ. And for $3.50, getting a liner with a lipstick, that makes for sweet Summer success.

Have you tried any of the Perfect Pair lip colors yet? Which one is your favorite?

Wet ‘n Wild: My Signature Red Hot Lipstick Look

Of all the red lipsticks I own, and a blue-red being my very, very favorite and, red is the shade I own the most of, I love Wet ‘n Wild’s red lippies the most…

DSCF0219

DSCF0222 DSCF0226

You know that question: If you could only have one lipstick color for the rest of your life…or, if you could only have one makeup item, etc. Well, here is my answer…

DSCF0228

Wet ‘n Wild’s ‘Cherry Frost’ isn’t frosty at all. It’s shimmery. And it is a shimmery blue-red that livens up my face. If I’m in a super hurry, I don’t need any other makeup if I can just get my hands on my red lipstick.

Cherry Frost Lips

This would be my one and only lipstick if I could only have one and, it’s my signature color. Now, more about ‘Cherry Frost’, itself other than my love for the shade; it is super creamy.  It’s creamy and it gliiiiiides on. My lips felt smooth all day with this on. And I only needed to touch up right after lunch. But even then, with a lip primer, this kisser stayed kissed!

I posted several years back about how I come by loving red lipstick genetically. My maternal Grandma wore red lipstick. She had to ‘put her lips on’ anytime we were going to take photos. I put a small blue-red lipstick in a box that was buried with my Grandma’s ashes.

Tell me what your signature lippie is.

Wet ‘n Wild Holiday Glitter Cream Shadows

Are you a magpie? I’m a magpie. So, what is a magpie? It’s a bird that is attracted to shiny objects. They like to take it and put it in their nests. If you didn’t know you were a magpie, then you now know!

But, I’m a magpie that does NOT like to be duped. Wet ‘n Wild, you duped me…again…on your cream shadows. Why you torture me so?…

DSCF0028I don’t know how many new Holiday Wet ‘n Wild cream shadows I saw out at Walgreens last week. I didn’t bother to count. I just picked one that I thought was the prettiest of all. I knew the formula hadn’t changed. If it had, I would have read all the hallelujahs from other beauty blogs. What few mentions I found of these are the same that you are going to read here…

DSCF0029‘Glimmer in Your Eye’ is soooo pretty. Damn, I wanted it to really, really work. Check out my macro…

DSCF0031Yes! They are just that glittery to catch my magpie eye. Then came the swatching…

DSCF0037 DSCF0036Nope. Not even a good angle makes up for this. It was totally downhill from then on. I use swabs to swatch and that sucked too…

DSCF0035The cream wouldn’t even stick to the swab. I used my finger to swipe…

DSCF0032That didn’t make a bit of difference. Grrrr….this makes me mad! And I can’t even get the cream to stay on an eyeliner brush to enhance a pencil or gel eyeliner look.

Sadly, I say don’t waste your money. These take too much work even if you try glitter glue for the eyelids. That made even heavier patches of product on my eye. It looked like I fell into some sort of kid’s glitter project.

Buy them if you must because the magpie in you wants the shiny. But, you will probably leave the shiny in the pan which is the only place it looks pretty.

If you were able to get these creams to adhere to your eyelid, please, I BEG you….share!!!!

Be A Runway Beauty: Wet ‘n Wild Three-Pan Shadow Collections

Nothing wants time to fly faster than me anxiously awaiting to get the newest Wet ‘n Wild shadows. These three are almost their newest ones. There are the holiday cream glitters and 8-shade palettes now coming out. I’ll show you those in the near future. For now, here are some delightfully interesting 3-palette shadows…

swatches of wnw 002When Wet ‘n Wild puts a color collection together, it will get it to expand out of ‘safe’ color choices for shadows. Most of the time, I would never think of putting some of these colors together. Yet when I create a look with them, I’m like ‘Wow! That’s amazing!’

First up: Grays Matter…

swatches of wnw 005I had to take a super close-up to show the twinkle..

swatches of wnw 006Here’s your warning for this post: my swatches didn’t turn out at all like I wanted them. You may know that, mostly, Wet ‘n Wild powder shadows are not all chalky. Some have the fall-out expected from Wet ‘n Wild shadows. But, the natural lighting I used is way too harsh to see the proper pigmentation of these on the skin. There. I have given the disclaimer…

swatches of wnw 009Why there is the reference of gray in the name of this palette is beyond me. These shades are purple! The lightest shade is very pale. However, it did show up better on the eye. And the darkest, it was very flaky but with primer, it rose to the occasion for the eye of the day look.

I’m going to say this one is my favorite: Silent Era Film…

swatches of wnw 019 swatches of wnw 021Everything you read before on the first palette applies here. The darkest shade doesn’t work too well without a primer or something underneath to grip it. The lightest shade is more obvious on my eyelids because of the skin tone difference from my much darker hand.

And last, here’s Camera Obscura…

swatches of wnw 013 swatches of wnw 017The lightest and second lightest shades practically don’t exist on my hand. Again, on the lid, it is better. But, not only by about half. These two shadows were the weakest pigmentation-wise of the entire collection. However, where the previous darkest shades were full of fallout and really needed a firm hand to apply properly, this dark shade rocked out. It was very pigmented and created an awesome, deep smokey eye look.

If you keep your eye shadow choices far away from the wild side, you should be quite happy with these. They are more subdue, much more neutral, than the previous Pop Art collection of late this past summer.

How do you feel about these colors? Can you see the cross-usage between them?

Fergie’s Jet Set Makeup Palette from Wet ‘n Wild

Being the sucker that I am for makeup palettes, I nearly wept when I found this at Walgreens. It is the limited edition Wet ‘n Wild’s Fergie’s Jet Set Makeup Palette…

samples and swatches 063 samples and swatches 064 swatches galore 012 swatches galore 013 As you can see from the photo above, this palette has a lot in it. When you open it up, the array of shades is overwhelming…

samples and swatches 068 samples and swatches 069 samples and swatches 070Is there a color that is missing? Maybe a red but, other than that, you could want for nothing. Some are matte, some sparkly and some shimmery. Some are very pigmented and some are on the light side. With 72 shades, there’s something for everyone…

samples and swatches 081 samples and swatches 077 samples and swatches 074Here are just a few random swatches. I used a swap to apply them…

samples and swatches 100 samples and swatches 098Most of the lip colors are balms. They are rather ‘wet’. Thus, there isn’t a lot of staying power with them. However, they are pretty…

samples and swatches 105Having an array of blushes makes me reach outside of my comfort zone. I can easily get by with just one blush. Actually, I have to consciously work at trying different colors. These are pretty enough to try them all…

samples and swatches 088 samples and swatches 108Sadly, these eyeliner and lip liner pencils are gratuitous, in my opinion. I suppose you could use the brown one for the brows, as well. There are just way too many other liners that are better. However, if someone doesn’t have any, these will fix you up…

samples and swatches 089Last are the highlighters and contour shades. The darker shade is too sparkly for me to contour with however, it does make a decent bronzer on my skin…

samples and swatches 086samples and swatches 059Maybe the sun was gone by the time I snapped this photo thus, the off white balance. Those shades are richer in color than the photo tells.

So, if you want to add to your palette collection or, just want to have a robust amount of eye shadow and lip color selections at hand, you might want to consider this. The only downside I see is that you can’t pop one of the lippies into your purse for on-the-go touchups. This palette is $30 at Walgreens. Considering the amount of makeup in this palette, that’s a pretty good deal.

Are you a palette collector or, do you add to your collection bit by bit?

Wet ‘n Wild’s Fergie Collection: Desert Festival

Have you seen the new Fergie collection from Wet ‘n Wild? I’m loving the color combos in these. Thanks to beauty blogs and beauty blog friends, I now have no problem stepping out of my old comfort zone and wearing lots of different eye shadow colors. This palette here would have been one that I would never even consider, a few years back. But now, I’m digging it!…

samples and swatches 019 samples and swatches 016‘Desert Festival’ can go from a crisp neutral to a spicy Southwestern feel. For a drugstore brand, Wet ‘n Wild can come up with some complex colors…

samples and swatches 021 samples and swatches 022The center, taupe, is a matte and, so it the darker peach color in the upper right corner. You can see the others are vivid with shimmers.

I swatched with a swab…

samples and swatches 027 samples and swatches 025The off-white shade in the upper left corner seems very weak in the swatches. However, it is a bit more robust on the eye. And just WOW on the extreme dark brown sparkle in the lower right corner! I can push that shade to the limit for a smoky eye look. I used an eyeliner brush and smudged that shadow all around my eyes for a fascinating look.

The darker peach shade in the upper right corner is somewhat chalky, like some mattes can be. It’s workable but some may not feel they have the time to devote to babying that shadow along. There are a few crumbs from the matte taupe shadow in the middle but the application of it is quite solid.

I have acquired several other shadow palettes from this collection and so far, I’m pleased with all but possibly one. I’ll showcase all of them in a later post. For now, I’m enjoying the view outside of my makeup selection ‘box’.

What color have you found that you like when you stepped outside the box? Do you have this Fergie palette from Wet ‘n Wild?
