Toss Or Trash: September 2012

I was really good at finishing up beauty products in September. I pushed on using up three Bath and Body Works minis from 2011 Halloween…

Sinful Vanilla and Scream A Colada were my favorites. And I like the fragrance of the Caramel Apple hand soap. All of these are trash.

My candle stash, mostly Bath and Body Works, is getting as out-of-hand as my makeup is. Burn, baby, burn!…

The candle from Sweet Surrender is from Ebay. I had a lot of her candles several years ago and I was rummaging through my candle collection looking to use up some. Pumpkin Ginger Streusel is a fragrance I’d get again in a heartbeat. I wonder if my neighbors can smell these candles and think that I’m actually cooking. Now THAT would be funny. Lavender Vanilla from Bath and Body Works is one I’d get again. Hot Chocolate, from last Christmas, was OK but there are many other fragrances I’d pick before this one. All of these are trash.

Next, is lotions and potions…

I got a very good coupon for Nivea Body Wash and this is what I purchased, Touch of Smoothness body wash. I loved it. And, it would be one that I’d buy again. Next to that is Soap & Glory’s Hand Food. If this was food, it is well past its expiration date. I didn’t like the fragrance from the beginning and it turned rancid fast. This is a toss. And talk about turning rancid; I guess Burt’s Bees Lemon Butter Cuticle Creme doesn’t last forever either. I admit this is old and when I returned to using it, it had gone bad. I’d replace it so it really isn’t a toss. However, Juice Beauty’s Green Apple Peel, is a toss. I just don’t like peel-type masks. Those type just don’t seem to do anything for me. I used this up about half way and that’s it. I got this as a sample in a Birch Box.

You might remember, from past Toss or Trash posts, that I have had quite a time purchasing products, from Walgreens’ clearance, that have turned bad before I even bought the item. Not the case with Carmex Healing Lotion. I loved it!! If I didn’t already have a lot of hand lotions, I’d consider repurchasing this one and, in the full size.

I find stuff that I can’t replace…

The mini Orly comes from who-knows-where. It’s an oldy, but gosh, it’s soooo pretty!!!…

I could put some polish thinner in it and resurrect it. But, I’m not going to bother. I figure I have enough polish that, somewhere in there, I have something pretty durn close. No name on this one but…I better move along. I’m having second thoughts about this one!!

Before I get any further, the Simply Lip Balm came from Walgreens and it was NOT in the clearance. But, it turned very fast on me. It was nice right after I bought it and, that was maybe three months ago. Shortly after that however, I found them in the clearance bin.

Doing the Toss or Trash series has given me the opportunity to go through my makeup and weed out stuff that I don’t use anymore or, in the case of these two lip glosses, have turned bad (are you starting to see a pattern here? Yeah, me too.)…

It is a shame that these two lip glosses from Mark, got lost in my makeup dungeon. When I found them, I pouted because they were stinky. They weren’t when I originally bought them, of course. But, some time has passed (cough, cough!). Just doing some swatches of them lets on that I still liked them. The top one is ‘Bronze Glaze’ and the bottom shade is ‘Beige Shimmer’.

I got cut-throat on the makeup…

Only two of them I have had a long time and that would be the Avon Daring Definition Gel Eyeliner in ‘Plum’ and the Avon Shimmersticks Brow Liner in ‘Tawny’. The liner is just hard. I like the color but it applies like a crayon.

The eye liner gel became too dry…

I do love the vibrant color, however. And, next are the Ulta Extreme Wear Cream Eye Shadows. TOSS! These are a huge failure for me. I’m not hanging on to stuff that is NOT working for me anymore. The product doesn’t apply well, it isn’t pigmented at all and what does get on my eyelid creases in two seconds. Sayonara!

And, I did not use the Maybelline Great Lash in purple but twice to figure out that this sucked! I so fell for the hype on this.

And then, what is left: a concealer from Amuge in ‘Fair’ that isn’t fair at all. And, Bella Peirre eye shadow base. Neither one of these have been with me over 3 months. I’m not going to hold onto products that fail to live up to their jobs. The concealer is like putty and I can’t put putty on my face. The shadow base primer, it just plain sucked! It’s very close to being putty but I can apply it with my finger or a stiff brush. It still didn’t keep my shadow from creasing. Both are toss.

Have you tried any of these products and did you like or, have success?

  • I, like you, have been ruthless about getting rid of old makeup as well.

    • Good for you! 🙂 It does have a cathartic feel to it. But, getting new stuff still feels better. LOL!!!

I decided to do something like this and then it made me crazy to have the trash around so I stopped. I have so much clutter that I need to toss something every once in a while.

    • It bugs me too. Look at all that trash!! I have a bin I keep it in until the end of the month. I have considered taking photos of the stuff as I go along so I am not hanging on to it. But, I do love dumping all of that stuff right into the garbage at once.
