Toss Or Trash: September 2014 Part 2

This is Part 2 for September’s Toss or Trash segment. If you missed Part 1, click here.

This one could be subtitled ‘Suds and Soft’. All these items were purchased with the intention of cleaning and softening. Let’s check out how the items I tried held up.

My shower doesn’t have a lot of room for products however, I do the best that I can. My husband only needs one corner, right? Ha! When I was working as a merchandiser, it was really easy to get swayed to try out products that I handled day after day. Suave’s Natural Infusion All Day Body Conditioner says that it rivals Pureology. If you check out the price of Pureology, you know that it is one of the higher priced hair care items at the drugstore. Suave has their prices at the other end of the spectrum. Even if the price was a bit higher, I would still use this Suave conditioner. It smells so nice and it made my hair super soft. I have dry hair and it is thin so, I can’t use a super heavy conditioner. I think this one got it just right for my hair needs.

I bought Caress’ Passionate Spell because I found some that had leaked all over in the store while I was merchandising. Since I was working for the company that makes Caress, it was my job to make the display look nice and presentable, I cleaned it up. Lucky me that it was body soap!! Passionate Spell has the fragrance of Passionfruit and Fiery Orange Rose. I don’t think I have ever smelled a fiery Orange Rose but I can tell you this; Passionate Spell is divine! I would definitely pick up this wash again. It cleans well without leaving my skin the least bit dry.

To keep my skin soft, here are a couple of body butters I tried out…

I’ll be honest with you; Pacifica is not a lotion you want to hoard. I really loved the smell of Indian Coconut Nectar, a lot. I guess since the bottle isn’t very big at 2.5 ounces, I wanted to stretch it out. Then, it got shoved to the back of the drawer. When I rediscovered it, the lotion had gone rancid and I had to throw it out with about a third still unused. What a loss! So, use my bad lotion management to your advantage. Do try this but, don’t expect it to last over a year. This body butter is ultra-moisturizing and the fragrance lingers…

Lucky for me that the Crabtree & Evelyn body butter doesn’t spoil as fast. I know I’ve had this at least 2 years. Again, it got pushed to the side as newer products came to my vanity. Naturals Nourishing Body Butter is another lotion that is very thick and luxurious. The fragrance was nutty and soothing. You can just tell by the ingredients, all that nut butter is going to pamper your skin…

Everything in this post is trash, which means, I used it up (well, except for the Pacifica) and I would buy it again. I learned my lesson, yet again, to work on using up what I currently have before moving on to something else. Yea….right. Like that’s gonna happen!!!!

Have you tried any of these products? What product have you hoarded only to have it spoil?

  • erikatheicyone

I don’t really hoard body products. I buy few, use, buy more. I hoard polish and makeup. Much more satisfying to me. 😀

    • With a ‘mini’ Bath and Body Works store going on at my house, you’d think I’d learn to not hoard and lavish on those lotions!

      • erikatheicyone

They should last a while. LOL And, if you enjoy having them, what’s the harm? 😀

  • Allison @neversaydiebeauty

I often do buy more than one of body butters that are indie/artisan-made brands, and I’ve never had one go rancid. That is unacceptable unless it was like a year or so 🙁

    • I got Pacifica when I first moved to Denver so yes, it was over a year old. Totally on me and not the product or brand. I loved it and should have shown it more love and attention.

  • Good to know not to hold onto the Pacifica

  • Out of all of those we only have Crabtree & Evelyn in Australia. Although, I’m not sure if we have that product.

    • I used to shop all the time at the C&E outlet when I lived in Orlando. They don’t have an outlet here in Denver, though. 🙁

  • Hmmm I thought the Pacifica sounded nice… but not if it’s not good to hold onto!

    • Nope. It needs love all the way to the end. 🙂

  • I am glad to know that about Pacifica – I’ll avoid it!

    • I love the Pacifica! It just doesn’t last over a year. And, I bet most folks use it up before then too. It isn’t that huge of a tube.

      • Well, that’s good to know! I tend to take a long time using up lotions, but then again, we aren’t like most folks with our huge beauty stashes. LOL

  • I love the feeling of using stuff up!!! ANd I know what you mean about the Pacifica. I had a body butter that turned before. Pretty quickly too

  • cindyprimebeauty

I want to try the Crabtree and Evelyn!

    • Their products are so luxurious!!! I love their hand lotions the most.

  • I really like the Suave Seaweed collection! Besides the sulfates though

    • I don’t see sulfates listed. Are they called something else? Plus, it says it’s good for color treated hair.

  • FabZilla_Kath

yes, husband needs a tiny space in one corner, lol!

    • Plus, Harry can use a 3 N 1 and that saves lots of room. Heee heee! 😉

  • I need to start using things up. I have so much hand lotions but find I don’t use up just one. My problem is that lotions keep me really cold during winter/fall months too so I don’t use as often. I better get with it. lol

    • I can serve as a reminder for you! Sorry that the lotions make you cold though.

  • Justina

    I love that Carress stuff!

    • I was pleasantly surprised at how much I liked it. I think it was the first time I have ever used Caress.

  • LOVE Carress – Not a huge fan of Pacifica either

    • I really did like the fragrance of that Pacifica. This was my first experience, I believe, with Caress and it was a good one!

  • Aleya Bamdad

I’ve tried other Suave products before and liked them.

    • I’ve come to like a lot of them too. I was sad that their newer line of lotions had mineral oil in them though. I steer clear of that.

  • I love these posts. I’m so bad at using things up, especially skin or body care because there is so much of it. After testing it seems like it’s on to the next thing. I’m steering clear of the Pacifica now, though lol

    • If you do love Pacifica, just make sure you use it up! I do love that fragrance and have no one to blame but myself. 🙁

  • Betzy Carmona

I use caress so much !

    • They have some lovely fragrances.
