China Glaze: The Hunger Games in Stone Cold Matte

With a constant influx of new polishes, I don’t know how anyone can keep up! But, I do admit, I’m having fun trying.

Take a peep at this new shade…

If ‘The Hunger Games’ is not the hit of the year, I’m curious to find out what will be. And how is it that I forgot that ‘Stone Cold’ is a matte? I mean, it’s PERFECT!

China Glaze hit the nail polish jackpot with their ‘Hunger Games’ collection. As soon as my local Sally’s Beauty Supply store got these in, I was there within the hour!

In the bottle, ‘Stone Cold’ left me…well, rather cold. It is the matte effect that won me over…

I like this edgy look. And I think the way the light reflects off the nails is fascinating.I have two coats on.

When it came time to change out my manicure, I got a thought at the last minute. What would ‘Stone Cold’ look like if I put a coat or two of ‘Luxe and Lush’ over it…

Sort of cosmic! And that fascination I had for the matte, that got bumped up. I only needed one coat of ‘Luxe and Lush’.

This mix could be hard for some to like. However, I found it cool…

The look with ‘Luxe and Lush’ reminds me of a polished slab of granite.

How many times have you seen ‘The Hunger Games’ movie, so far? Did you like it? And, did you wear any of ‘The Hunger Games’ polishes to the movie?

China Glaze’s The Hunger Games Will Have You Fall Hook and Line

If you haven’t heard about The Hunger Games books, you must live without electricity since it is talked about all over the media. I can now say that I have The Hunger Games on my Kindle Fire and will commence reading it. I don’t think I’ve come across anyone that hasn’t read it.

And a big question I’ll be looking for is, how do the polish names, from China Glaze’s The Hunger Games, match up to the story.

For instance, take a look at this frosty gravender (that’s gray and lavender mixed together)…

‘Hook and Line’ is probably both a frost and a metallic. Is that possible? Ehh, I’d rather just enjoy looking at it. I have 3 coats going on here…

It takes on different shades depending on the light shift. I’m thinking sometimes it is silver, sometimes beige…what color does it look like on you?

I rather like the shades of polish, or any color for that matter, that are hard to pin down. There’s quite a number of colors, it could be argued, that this polish could be. OK, I’m done trying to analyze it. I’m going to enjoy it for what it is. I guess I have fallen ‘Hook and Line’ and sinker.

Ashes to Ashes; Charlotte Russe Smolder Nail Polish

Spring is right around the corner (and so is my birthday…oye!) and there are bright, clean-color nail collections sprouting out everywhere. Yet, in a few collections, I am finding a dusty gray or ash color amongst the brights.

Here are a couple I just happened to swatch recently…

Charlotte Russe has nail polish on sale for $1.99. I rummaged through the collection to find something that I didn’t have. I so did NOT need any nail polish, however, I couldn’t resist the heart-shaped bottle. How cute!

This is ‘Smolder’…

However, there is a trick going on here. My index and ring fingers have on a Forever 21 love and beauty polish called ‘Grey’…

So, this polish is a gray that has a light gold shimmer to it.

But, ‘Smolder’ is a creme…

Check it out on my pinky here, that’s ‘Grey’. ‘Smolder’ is on my ring and middle finger.

Yet, it is really hard to see which is which on my left hand…

This angle got the gold shimmer shimmering!

It’s all in the lighting, of course. But to my naked eye, they both looked very, very close in color and finish. I used 3 coats and a top coat of Seche Vite. Well, I didn’t seem to pick out a shade that I didn’t already have. But, that’s OK. I love these dark, smoky grays.

Which way do you spell ‘GRAY’/’GREY’?

Snow Light Blues

Yesterday I posted on a Sally’s Girl polish that, even though has no name, is still a crisp and shimmery steel blue-gray. I gave it a make-over and it came out fairly better.

First, I want to show you the Cosmetic Arts polish that began this evolution…

Cosmetic Arts doesn’t name their shades, but doesn’t this one just scream for one? Screamin’ Steel? Eh.

But, oh how lovely this steel blue is…

This is with four coats and I still didn’t get the same opaque look I wanted. I just wanted it to look like it does in the bottle.

Here is a photo in the shade…

Too sheer for the look I was going for. However, as I was sitting there with a grimace, I glanced over and saw the Sally’s Girl, again no name, that I had just swatched. I got a simple idea…

Check out the micro-glitter in the bottle, and there is the slightest of shimmer on my nail…

It’s there, on the nail, but ooooh, so subtle. In the sunlight, and rolling my nail back and forth, I could see all the different colored glitter twinkling like a night sky.

Using Sally’s Girl polish, as the base coat for Cosmetic Arts, gave me more of the look I was hoping to achieve and with less coats. I used 2 coats of Sally’s Girl and just one coat of Cosmetic Arts.

If I was a Franken Fashionista, I would franken these two and see if I could get the wanted look in just a single polish.

I’m sort of partial to icy blues during the winter. I got a photo of this over Christmas…

Tinsel Town on a Wintery, Snowy Night

There’s no waiting til the last minute to confess. I’m a firm believer that it is easier to ask for forgiveness than to ask for permission. In this case, I’m giving myself permission to only buy polishes I like.

Yes, I mean it. I have this on the same list as ‘eat fruit every day.’ So far, so good. I have had today, alone, Juicy Fruit and Cherry Coke Zero.

I wore this polish last week and when I went to show a couple of friends, my mind went blank. (What? You are STILL laughing?) I couldn’t remember any more than it was a new shade out and it was China Glaze. Awkward.

Maybe I was too busy being smittened…

It’s China Glaze and it is from their current Let It Snow collection. This is ‘Tinsel Town.’

I don’t have anything quite like it in my collection…

‘Tinsel Town’ is another color that is hard to pin down to describe. It’s in the family of grays. However, it is a gray that is a bit blueish and a bit silvery. Then it has all this different size silvery gray glitter in it. What comes to mind is the color of a shadow from a full moon, cast onto the snow.

I even wore a knit dress the same color, without meaning to…

When I was in school and then in college, I would rewrite my class notes to study for a test. I’ll look at this post as a rewrite of my notes so I don’t forget that this is from China Glaze’s 2011 Holiday collection called Let It Snow. This lovely glittery gray is called ‘Tinsel Town.’

Got it! A+

Have you ever had your mind just totally go blank when someone asks you what polish you are wearing?

It Was a Cold, Rainy Night…For Pumpkin Polishes

Pleasant surprises are one of the top things I love about life. I love to get/find them and I love to give them.

A twin twitter friend, Somecrazedlady, sent me a delightful, pleasant surprise package in the mail. (Ask her why we are ‘twins’.) She sent me Julep’s Hand Brightening Creme and some hand/nail softening gloves. She also sent me the ghostie design from the Sally Hansen sticker nails and a sample of CND foot creme….hmmm…fresh and smells like cucumbers.

Then, if those wonderful items were not enough (and they were!), she included these…

Pumpkin polishes!!!!! And the top two glitters EVER!!!  On the left is the one that has iridescent quarter moon shaped glitter and regular size glitter. Then in the middle is my own Finger Paints in ‘Stunning Stilettos’, which I used as a base color. The pumpkin on the right is iridescent bar glitter. I’m in the camp that loves bar glitter, some say they feel it’s too hairy. But, I think it’s adorable.

I swatched these the day after I received them…

I alternated fingernails with both as I couldn’t do just one. Plus, I loved the look and actually got some compliments on it when I was out and about working.

I picked ‘Stunning Stilettos’ as the base color as I wanted to emulate a sense of a dark, cloudy night with the moon flitting in and out of wispy clouds. When I was a kid, we called that ‘spooky moon.’ It is a total set up for a movie with a werewolf howl. 🙂

Twin sister, Somecrazedlady, you are the BEST!!! Thank you, again, for your sweetness.  Great Big Hugs!!!

I posted that my brother, his wife and daughter came to Orlando to do the touristy thing and to see me. My niece and sister-in-law have never been to the Atlantic Ocean. So we took a day trip to Daytona Beach.

Here is a photo of mom and daughter enjoying the shore line…

My October Pink Giveaway ends this Sunday. If you haven’t entered yet, this is where the post is located at….HERE.

Gilded Grey Edge of Fall

Are you getting ready for Halloween? Every retailer is! Let me help you out. I have a giveaway going on and I’m giving away 2 sets of SH’s ‘Pumpkin Spice’ and ‘Black Out.’ You can go here and enter.

Summer’s not over…yet. Not that I’m trying to rush it out the door. (SLAM! And good riddance!!!) However, there’s just no way I can stop myself from getting the new Fall polishes. Here’s why…

This is ‘Grey’ (yawn) from Forever 21’s Love & Beauty. Boring name however, it gives you a pleasant surprise when you can catch it in the right light.  Check out the first photo. This is a murky grey that has swirls of antique gold in it.

In January, I showed you this look in a blue formula here. On that same post, I also showed it in purple. I’m confident that I have a red one around here too. I should look for that and, the weekend of Labor Day, get you ready for Christmas by reviewing it. (sarcasm)

I took photos of his mani in all different angles and light to see if I could capture the real look of ‘Grey’ (yawn).

I’m still growing out the nail enhancement fiasco. Hence, my stepping away from doing a lot of manicure looks for the moment. So, thanks for bearing with me. :/

This is 3 coats with a top coat of Sally Hansen’s ‘Teflon Tuff.’ That gives it a really deep-looking shine.

This photo gives you the best representation of the color, right on the middle finger. However, it also is the best shot of the simply hideous state my nails have been. I refuse to file down any more as my nail beds are weak and still growing out from file burns from the nail salon tech. (Boooo)

I’m going to name this polish ‘Gilded Grey.’ It may not want to show off in photos but the soft gold shimmer inside a murky grey is beautiful. And it’s one of the coolest greys for the Fall.

Can you bring yourself to move on to Fall nail polish shades?

Midnight Matte Sounds like a Cowboy Name

Who would have ever thought that a metallic metal nail polish would look so hot…

This Nubar is ‘Midnight Matte.’ Once again, I would have never picked up this color before nail blogging (BNB). I mean, it’s a darker gray, it looks sort of gritty and it isn’t shiny. Well, it is all those things but gritty. It just looks that way; it’s smooth. I’m thinking of a cowboy that talks like Sam Elliot.

You can hear is voice in your head too, can’t you? See….

On my ring finger is an Incognito sample I got at the Orlando Premiere Show. A demonstrator put this on me. It didn’t ‘test’ too well. Meh.

Nevermind, it’s ‘Midnight Matte’ that you have just fall for. This is just 2 coats. Wears like metal too!

I picked up an entire collection of Nubar Mattes called ‘Night Sky Collection’. The other two shades that came in this collection are ‘Sunset’ (reviewed here) and ‘Twilight’. I’ll visit ‘Twilight’ soon. 🙂

Do you like matte metals? Would you like your GPS to have Sam Elliot’s voice? No? Just me?

Gray Clouds Over An Orange Sun

Can you imagine a ‘grunge’ nail look? Well, if not, check this one out…

This is the crackle gray polish from China Glaze and it’s called Cracked Concrete.

I took yesterday’s manicure, check here, and put some cement on it…

What a variety of textures. Hmmm…I can say, I was not consistent with application. And, I was trying to. It just happened. Not the look I was wanting. Yet, I could just say I was going for a down and dirty look. Hee hee! OK, no one would believe me.

I put one coat on; that’s all you need. However, how thick of a coat used is going to make the difference.

The thumb went all to hell. That is too much crackle to crack! If I had planned to wear this outside of my home, well, I would not have!

The only nail that went well is the pinky.

It doesn’t look like cement, but more like shattered, dirty glass. LOL Grunge..and I don’t do the grunge look well. The other nails, save for the thumb, could have been salvaged with a shiny top coat.

Did you ever step on a crack…on purpose? I did. I was an ornery brat!

A Gray ‘Totally Fort Worth It’ for Brain Tumor Awareness

Are you having fun these weekend? Me, just blogging, cleaning up..some, OK…a little…no, just blogging and reading blogs. Yea. That.

I have made a new friend through blogging. My friend’s name is Zara. She runs Never Unpolished blog. She just graduated from high school this month. She’s getting ready to head off to college. I think she’s an awesome woman.  Zara has a brain tumor.

This month marks ‘National Brain Tumor Awareness’. The awareness ribbon for this disease is gray. Zara asked if anyone would help spread the word. I readily agreed.

Here is the gray I chose…

This is OPI’s ‘Totally Fort Worth It’ from their recent Texas collection. I actually got this at our blogger swap last April. I don’t know who put that into the stack but, I’m happy I got it.

‘Totally Fort Worth It’ is a very soft, frosty gray. It almost looks like a faint, smoke color. I am sure this color is in Libby’s coat! I was very pleased with the color. I used 2 coats and, there is still a bit of visible nail line so, 3 would have done better. I did put on a top coat but, this is what I used…

This is OPI’s ‘I Juggle…Men’ from the Cirque Femme collection. Sort of hard to pick up on camera, this is a thin, milky overlay that has pinkish iridescent glitter.I can’t state that it spices things up, but it does add a hint of irresistibility to the look.

This is one coat of ‘I Juggle…Men.’

Do excuse the need for a fill-in. My nails grow crazy fast and this is just 8 days of growth!  As you can see from the overlay, it doesn’t change it a lot but just a bit.  It makes ‘Totally Fort Worth It’ just a bit more shimmery with an iridescent glow.

I liked the look quite well. It’s a nice match for my very long nails. I’m glad I got to try this look and share with you about Zara and her blog. I’m very happy to have made friends with her and wish her all the best as she goes on into her college years and beyond.  (I hope she keeps blogging; I adore her blog!! Go, check it out!)

Did you get ‘Totally Fort Worth It’ or ‘I Juggle…Men’?
